How do you describe the band that's probably been the biggest influence on yourself, as well as a whole heap of other people, ever? Listen to anything snubfighter have done and you'll hear traces of a Brendan Canty/Joe Lally approach to rhythm section dynamics. So how the hell am I going to write an introduction that isn't 20 paragraphs long and gushing with praise? Quite simply, I can't. So...this interview was done by Claire and Alex after Fugazi's Hi Fi bar show in 1997 (I think). It was meant to come out with contraband fanzine but never did I think. So It's pretty out of date. At this time they were touring on Red Medicine. Since then they've released the film Instrument and accompanying soundtrack, the phenomenal End Hits record, and have a new one, tentatively titled The Arguement out towards the end of this year. But it's still a great interview, because Fugazi are known as much (or possibly more) for being "Ian Mackaye's band that tells the industry to shove it", as they are for writing some great music. And this interview doesn't really worry about the whole package of ethics that come with the band. Because really those ideas speak for themselves and don't have to be rehashed in a million interviews. Instead, this is just Fugazi bassist Joe Lally talking about the band and the music they make. Hope you enjoy it
