THE CASKET LOTTERY - "Moving Mountains"

It just occured to me that Nate's voice reminds me of perry farrel from Jane's Addiction. We won't hold that against this band though.

Well, it's the casket lottery. I love this record and this band. But if you've heard them, well you're going to know what this sounds like. A lot of really high up the fretboard guitar parts. Bass parts that seem to just keep on rolling around in circles. Personal lyrics. Occasional bouts of mathy distortion. It's going to be interesting to see where they go from here. Because this whole record is sort of like songs like
'ocean' off 'choose bronze' taken about as far as you can go with all this. I think it's somewhat of an achievement that they pulled this record off with no filler either.

I hate to sound like I'm dissing it because I'm not. This has sat in my stereo for two weeks now. It's just that the lottery have their own very unique, distinctive sound. It's going to be a shame if they don't do anything more with it, and try a few different things, like that song
'lost at sea' off the 7 inch.

But anyway, the possible songwriting corner they're heading into has no effect on this record. This is amazing. If you play an instrument I really suggest you pick this up. Because these kids know how to play. And they approach the guitar fretboard in a way that seems really weird and unorthodox, to me at least. Definitely for people who're into music and songwriting, as opposed to just something to mosh to.

9 songs, CD.
