As of this update (3-20-99), it would seem that Dayton just couldn't care less about live rockabilly shows. Maybe we're expecting too much too soon, but turnout at the few shows we've done lately has not been as we'd hoped. That's one reason our keyboardist just quit. as did our bassist the following day. Now I know why the Hip Shakin' Daddys play everywhere BUT Dayton. They tour all over Ohio in small burgs. I guess that's what we should be doing, but we don't have the representation they do. Anyway, this is quite discouraging for the rest of us remaining, but we've agreed to try to continue with a new bass player, stand-up, if we can find one, we're taking auditions now (see E-mail add. on title page).
I've put a lot of time, work, cassette tapes and computer paper into keeping the band and the rehearsals organized. I don't consider it wasted, really...we've had a lot of fun with it and produced a small amount of tangible enjoyment for me to listen to in my waning years! By then, everyone who knew what Rockabilly music was and really enjoyed it will have died off, anyway. We made our small splash locally, so I guess I can't complain too much. Long live old-time rock 'n' roll!!
