At one point in his life, Jordan used to sport a braided tail, which he grew for 6 years, but several years back, he had it cut off. "I just got tired of my tail and thought it was time for a change. I gave it to my mom." Gone are the days of his wearing earrings as an everyday occurance. He used to to wear a stud in his left ear, then went for the small gold hoops in each ear, but I wouldn't be looking for any jewelry hanging from those ears, he's not into that anymore. Jordan used to spend his summers as a camp counselor, but he spent his time trying to teach the kids there how to breakdance. At one point Jordan stated, "My fingers are funny looking! They're stumpy!" His clothes, well, that can only be described as slick and fashionable. "I used to like wearing just street clothes, you know, jeans and tee-shirts, but now I like to dress up a little more." This is obvious to most, but he has a fondness for leather jackets. Although his look now is more sophisticated, he still manages to make it look relaxed and natural, no matter what he's wearing. On the "Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch" debut album, "Music For The People", Jordan did some background vocals on a song called " 'Bout Time I Funk You." During the New Kids 1990 Magic Summer Tour, sponsored by McDonald's, they did a show in at the Montreal Olympic Staduim, where they were robbed of atleast $285,000. On February 5, 1992, New Kids travelled all the way from Australia to come on the Arsenio Hall Show to deny the rumors that they were lip synching.
(on the fans during the New Kids) "Well, I said in People Magazine once that I wish older fans would come to the shows. That's all that it means. I wish that older fans would come also. That doesn't mean I don't want younger fans to come. I mean, our younger fans made us, really. I don't want to push them aside for anything. I love our younger fans." (on fame during the New Kids) "It's almost your whole self. You're just totally public property. You lose almost every aspect. But that's the price." (on drugs) "You might hear that drugs don't hurt the first time. But drugs ain't around to mess with people just one time. Drugs are out to kill. They're so addicting. It's so easy to fall into the abyss of drugs. You gotta stay away from them. I mean, one time's not gonna kill you. But that one time could cost you your life." (on meeting girls) "It's hard. Especially if it's in a dance club or something, 'cause everyone's whispering 'That's him! That's him!' It's hard because every time you go up to a girl, they're gonna say 'You can get any girl you want. You think you can get over on me just 'cause of who you are?' You get that attitude a lot. So a lot of times, I'm not even gonna try." (on the craziest thing he's done to get a girl's eye) "Probably just showing off. Dancing or something. You know what I mean?" (fans at a New Kids concert) "I'd say if you're in the audience, you're not gonna get my attention by throwing your lipstick of my head or throwing a quarter at me." (on his family during the New Kids era) "I love being able to treat my family. Show them a good time, spoil them. I mean, we're getting so much out of it. We're seeing the glamour and the glory and we get to ride in limos everywhere, everyday. They are still at home working the same jobs they did, some of them. It's good to let them lead our kind of life also." (on his lifestyle situation) "It dawned on me a while back when I was shopping. Here I am, I've got a bodyguard with me who's got all my money, all my credit cards, me cel. phone . . . there are things I took for granted! It's like, 'Call a limo and tell them to pick us up' . . . a lot of times I'd go, 'Look at me, I'm telling this guy what to go, calling a limo to go shopping!' It was wild!" (being true to yourself) "The material things are great, but they don't mean that much to me. When I go on tour, I don't say, 'We're going to make a lot of money on this tour,' I say, 'I'm going to put on the best show that I can! Put on a great show!' " (any regrets?) "I wish I could have seen New Kids success before it happened. I would have planned it better . . . you know, the albums, videos, the merchandising. I would have planned it better so it wouldn't be like shoving everything down people's throats!" (perfectionist?) "A lot of the times I'm so picky, I think I'm going to miss this or I'll hit this note funny! But, it's just me criticizing myself, you're your own worst critic. I try to say that to myself and just go on and do it!" (he's still shy) "I have trouble expressing my thoughts in words, I can do it in music, but not with (spoken) words."
The following quotes come from the "New Kids" picture book by Lynn Goldsmith.
"I remember one dream when I was falling. It was off a building. And I said that I'm gonna fly and I started flying and I flew around in the clouds. You can do anything you want in your dreams. You can have sex with the flyest girl. Anything you wanna do, you can do it in your dreams." "I can't give my total self away. I just think that I'm private." (how he feels about the trying to touch him at the shows) "If I know they can't reach me, I love it! I feel in control of the situation but sometime I'd like to get attacked. It seems like it'd be fun." "The worst thing about being on the road is being lonely, and being all crapmed up in a hotel room. If I want to do something I gotta go through all the security checks." "I'm vulnerable when I'm in love." "Since I was little, I always had a feeling something great was going to happen to me. I never really worried about what I was going to do in the future. I felt that GOD was watching over me." "Elvis had moves that I've never seen before, only he could do them because he was Elvis. I want to have moves that are completely Jordan." "I feel very secure around Dick (Scott). I always feel like he's looking out for me. His faith in me gives me a lot of confidence." "If I'm recording a song and it's not coming out perfect, it's not going on the record!" "Sometimes it's hard to make sense of all this." "Everything that involves the New Kids is important to me. The music side, the business side. I want to be responsible for all of it. When we're talking about something serious, I can be over in the corner, doodling with my hair. People might think I'm not listening, but I am, and at the end of the meeting I'll say something that makes total sense. I like to spring things on people. Surprise'em." "Donnie and I are a lot alike and totally different at the same time. If we were civil rights leaders, I'd be Martin Luther King and he'd be Malcolm X." "Danny is bolted to the ground. If I ever feel pressured, he brings me back to reality. Danny just lays it down." "You can't fulfil every dream, so you leave half for your dreams and half for real life." |
