"Six?" you say and chuckle a bit because you think that surely I must be blonde (I am) and cannot count very well (I can!), because everyone knows that Hootie and the Blowfish has only 4 members... Darius, Dean, Mark, and Soni... right?? Well... kinda. *smiles* Gary Greene had been playing drums with them for quite a while and is known as "The Fifth Blowfish" (although now he is with Cravin' Melon... another wonderful SC band!) and Johnny Nau plays the keyboards with them... so I figure I should include them on this page because they do, after all, contribute quite nicely to the sound we all know and love... So there you have it.
I have just added a page for Jeff "JDog" Poland
Just 'cause he's such a sweetie. I've never actually met Jeff, but from what I've heard from other folks, he is someone I am looking forward to meeting.
He was until just recently,
Head of Security for the guys.
I don't know exactly what happened, nor I suppose, is it any of my business
but he has since parted ways with the group.
However, I still think of him when I think of Hootie,
and therefore shall I include him here.
And you thought Hootie was only four guys!*smiles*

Now... about this name thing...?
Hootie?? Blowfish??

Well, according to Darius, they got the name for the band from his habit of giving people nicknames. "One guy had big eyes and wore glasses and looked kind of owlish so I started calling him Hootie and it caught on. His friend has these huge cheeks, so I started calling him the Blowfish. They walked into a party together one night and I was hammered and said, 'Hey look, there's Hootie and the Blowfish!' And we named the band that because we're not very bright."

*smiles* Says You Darius! I think you're very bright!
I just don't know if I want you giving me any nicknames... *grinz*

I had the opportunity to see them live 3 times in 1999... and I'm going again every chance I get. *smiles* I guess I could safely be called a fan. At work I am affectionately (I hope) known as "Hootie Groupie." I'm not really a groupie in the true definition of the word... but I guess I am a bit... well... Hooked on Hootie. *grinz*
