Hi Maniacs! Welcome to the section devoted to those authors and their stories which have won The MANIAC Award! As time goes by, BACKSTREET MANIA likes to award certain pieces of fan fiction which are superior in their field, as a form of encouragement. The stories are nominated by the authors or a visitor to their site who has read the story. Most of the time though, the award is given to stories read and loved by Jessi, the resident Fan Fic Connoissuer. Please take the time to visit these works of art, and let the authors know what you think. Remember to keep checking back to view the new award recipients and read their winning stories. Also, feel free to nominate a story that yourself or someone else has written. See the Main Page *BACKSTREET MANIA's Fan Fiction Award* section for details on the nomination process. We have includes ratings for you to insure that you are well aware of the subject matter the story includes. Please, read responsibly. And now.....(drumroll!) the WINNERS!
"Weekend Plans"written by Kendra, posted on the Just To Be Close To You Fan Fiction site. The 1st recipient of this award, Kendra writes with emotion, making her story superb. Fully expecting a monotonous weekend riddled with 'the usual suspects' and activities, the heroine of this tale is tossed a curve by the winds of fate. A chance meeting leads to the love of a life time and some steamy *Weekend Plans*. Kendra's story is truly one of the best. (Rated R for sexual situations.)
"Whenever You Call"written by Cheryl, posted on the BSB4Eva Fan Fiction Site. One of the most compelling and heartwarming stories you'll ever read. With an original plot, a not oft used BSB as the main character, and soulwrenching emotion, Cheryl has spun a story that will have you answering the phone differently from this day forward. (Rated PG to PG-13 for mature subject matter.)
"Famous Last Words"written by Sarah and Katy, posted on their "Cheezy BSB Fan Fic Site". A very colorful piece centering around two of the BSB and a pair of women who are repeatedly thrown together by the winds of fate. These women draw their characters with good humor, you'd have to be made of stone not to laugh! With a great plot, witty dialougue, and a satisfying end to each part, this is a must read! NOTE: layout of story is unorthidox. Written in "parts" which are divided into "chapters". (Rated PG-13 to R for mature subject matter, language, and mild sexual content.)
"Once Upon A Time"written by the Angel of Music, hosted on Kristy's own site, "Princess Fiction". An outstanding piece, possibly the best out there. Kristy writes with confidence and emotion, making her story truly, a pleasure to read. Short synopsis: While in town for a medical convention, Kristy meets the man of her dreams. This fiction illustrates their relationship as it progresses; Kristy's talent easily endears itself to the reader. A must read. (Rating: PG to PG-13, for adult situations, mature subject matter.)
*Spirits*written by Sharlina, posted on her "The Babes of Orlando Fan Fiction" site. Our latest find to add to the MANIA hall of fame, this story is a cut above the rest of the Nick fics floating around cyber space. With a 100% original concept, outstanding word weaving talent, and emotion in excess, Sharlina's piece ranks first rate. I found this fic to be spellbinding; I was unable to stop pointing and clicking to the next chapter. (Rating: R for mature content, sexual situations, and graphic scenes.)
*Fire And Ice*, written by Ivy. By award this piece, we've broken one of the first rules we ever laid down for this Award - it must NOT be hosted on MANIA. We should have known that we'd eventually not be able to resist one of our hosted stories, and the day has finally come. Extremely well written, *Fire and Ice* draws your attention immediately and manages to keep your focus in it's grasp from chapter to chapter. Showcasing AJ, Ivy breaks the stereotypical "bad boy" image in favor of something more pleasurable. Without a doubt, *Fire and Ice* has made my top fic list! Also hosted on the "Sarah and Katy's Cheezy Backstreet Boys Fan Fiction" site. (Rated R for adult situations)
*Switched*, written by Amy. An absolutely hilarious story! One of Kel's newest favorites, enjoyed by Jessi as well. It's "Freaky Friday" revisited as AJ and Heather wake up in bodies which are not their own.....Chapter 5 is particularly priceless - you'll know what we're talking about when you read it! We couldn't help but laugh, and hopefully, you will too. Rating: PG
*Full of Grace*, *You Do What You Have To Do*, and *Fall From Grace*, written by Danielle and Tina, posted on the BSB Escapes fan fiction site. They say there's a first time for everything, and indeed, there is. These two stories are the first fan fiction set to receive the MANIAc Award. There is quite a bit which we feel must be said about these pieces, so please bear with us while we offer our opinions and reviews.
Both stories are wonderfully well written, with a style and flair all their own. *Full of Grace* deals with an issue which is all too often dismissed, and is not often portrayed in an acurate light: abuse. (While tastefully written, please be warned that this story does contain emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Please heed the multiple warnings regarding the content of "BSB Escapes" on their main page.) As you read this story, you will be taken on a wild emotional ride, which I suggest you pack plenty of Kleenex for. I am entirely serious in this statement; there were several times when I had to physically walk away from the computer to compose myself before continuing on. *Full of Grace* is heartwrenching in every sense, right down to the scarring emotional scenes written with explicit and graphic intensity. When you reach past the abuse, this story exemplifies the bonds of friendship and love in a most beautiful style. This is not a "typical" fan fic in any sense of the word. If you read one story this new millennium, make it this one.
*You Do What You Have To Do*, the sequel to *Full of Grace*, is also well worth your time. It focuses on love of the most exquisete and fantastic sense, while taking you down the road of healing for Kevin and Nick. Many fail to realize the after effects of emotional abuse, physical abuse, and rape. However, this piece is written in a most acurate sense, portraying the process of recovery and the effort required to rebuild what was lost. While this story may offend some of your sensibilities or beliefs, I implore you: read with an open heart and mind. Remember that love comes in many shapes, sizes, and packages. You would also do well to keep the AUTHOR'S NOTE AT THE BEGINNING OF CHAPTER 6 in mind.
Truly one of the best sets on the web, we recommend *Full of Grace* and *You Do What You Have To Do* wholeheartedly. I owe a debt of gratitude to Cheryl for bringing this story to my attention. (Disclaimer: Please keep in mind that neither MANIA, nor BSB Escapes, nor the authors are condoning abuse of any sort. Please realize that the abuse contained within *FoG* is portrayed in a negative light, and is not intended to be considered a 'positive' action under any circumstance. Both stories are graphic and explicit by nature, in regards to violence and sexual content. Exercise caution when reading. Rated NC-17. Above link is to main page of BSB Escapes. Take time to read through their warnings and disclaimers. After doing so, scroll down the list of stories and click on *Full Of Grace*.)
---The award given to *FoG* and *YDWYHTD* has been revised to include the third story to this outstanding trilogy, *Fall From Grace*. In the wake of thier shared tragedy and emotional 'official' union, Kevin and Nick are forced to deal with something that will make all of their previous troubles seem almost trivial. Before you begin reading the remarkable, *Fall From Grace*, be sure you secure a box of Kleenex for the ride.---
*Port in a Storm*, written by the BSBAttorneys: Jill, Sabrina, and Lolita. In their own words, this is "the 'ORIGINAL' legal thriller" of BSB fan fiction. *Port in a Storm* is very well written, and leaugues above any other technical suspense you've laid eyes on. From the first paragraph, this story will capture your attention, and more iportantly, maintain it until the very last sentence. Spellbinding in every sense, *Port in a Storm* skillfully and flawlessly combines the drama of the courtroom with the passion of the heart. I highly recommend you treat yourself to this piece, as it's one of the most fascinating reads on the web. (Rated R for sexual situations and adult issues/content.)
*Blind Faith*, written by ML, posted on "The Underground". This is a fabulously well written story which features a talented photographer, by the name of Maya, sincerely devoted to her craft. When yet another celebrity photo shoot brings more than just the usual 'shop talk', Maya dares to mix business with pleasure, quickly forming a friendship which carries the potential to become a liaison of a more intimate nature. "Blind Faith" beautifully protrays the exploration of a relationship as ML weaves charisma, charm, flirtation, and intrigue of the human heart into her plot. Well worth your time and the effort it takes to 'point and click', I highly recommend you spend your lunchhour at work or your evening respite immersed in "Blind Faith". Rated: PG.
I owe yet another debt of gratitude to the three individuals who emailed me, lobbying for "Blind Faith". Though I had already 'discovered' the story (as well as "The Underground") and listed it under the four star fics, this did not stop Hardball from emailing me in hopes of gaining "Blind Faith" an 'upgrade' of sorts, into a full fledged award winning piece. Cheryl, one of my favorite authors who's kind enough to send me links to the great stories she runs across, emailed the link to ML's story even before she noticed it posted under the four stars. And finally, Skyle, who nominated her co-webmistress' story some months ago. A huge thanks to each one of you and to the readers: if four of us think so highly of this latest addition to the MANIA hall of fame, why are you still here? I can hear "Blind Faith" calling your name in the distance.... :)
As many of you are aware, "The Underground" has indeed gone underground. That is to say, ML and Skyle have decided to remove their site from the WWW, for several very valid reasons. However, I've opted to leave "Blind Faith" posted in name only (there is no alternate address where this story might be read), as a tribute to what was certainly one of the finest collections of fan fiction I've ever seen. Furthermore, ML's story belongs here, amongst what I consider the "best of the best". "Blind Faith" is a tale I'll not soon forget -and hopefully, neither will you.
*Hollywood Nights*, written by dj riley, posted on her "Felicity Fiction" site. When I first began reading this story, I literally could not bring myself to step away from the computer. Like one of those books you simply cannot bring yourself to put down, "Hollywood Nights" is the internet equivalent. Dj's masterful style and will lure you in from the very fist line of chapter one, to the point of no return. Furthermore, she'll keep your attention, imagination, and heart captive as she spins the wrenching tale of Cameron Porter with the kind of ease every authors dreams of. By far one of the most well written works on the web today, dj has the talent and ability to have you hanging on her every word. When reading this story, you don't just peek into Cameron life, you become her, right down to the very last nuance of emotion. Well worth your time and the effort it takes to "point and click", this is one piece you definitely do not want to miss.
"Hollywood Nights" is rated R for adult language, adult issues, and sexual content. Dj has a warning posted on her page as well; please read responsibly. "Hollywood Nights" not recommended for those under the age of 18. Once again, Cheryl has been instrumental in bringing the finest fics the WWW has to offer, by emailing me yet another fabulous link. Thanks for your priceless involvment, Cheryl!
