Chapter 3: When I Never See the Sunrise Again Is When I Forget You

Alanis's black hair shone in the moonlight. Her blue eyes glowed like stars. Her lips parted in a smile and a laugh. She leaned forward, closing her eyes, to kiss Zac. Zac felt so happy now.
Zac opened his eyes then he groaned. It had only been a dream, a wonderful dream. It was night outside. The stars shone brightly through Zac's open window. Zac sighed. Taylor was right. He had to go on with his life. He had though about Alanis everyday for the past three years. He needed to go on now. He had a career, Alanis had a life. He needed to forget now.
Zac also needed to get to sleep. They had a concert the next day, or was it today? Zac looked over at his digital clock. It read 3am. He was going to go to bed until he remembered it was still set at California time.

Alanis sighed as her alarm clock went off signaling 7am. She hadn't gotten any sleep that night. She was a little happy. Cody was taking her to a concert that night. He wouldn't tell her the band's name. She figured it was either KoRn or Limp Bizkit, maybe Puff Daddy. Alanis threw the covers off her bed. She instantly felt a chill. She covered herself back up and went to sleep.
Alanis yawned then opened her eyes. It was dark outside, she figured she had slept at least an hour, until she looked at her clock. It was 6pm. She jumped right out of bed and jerked open her closet doors. She had a half-hour before Cody came to get her.
Alanis pulled her beanie hat over her head. She remembered she had done the same with a pair of Taylor's black silk boxers. She felt a pang of loneliness but she soon shook away the thoughts. Now she was ready to go to the outdoor concert.
"Hi Cody!" Alanis said with a bright smile as she hopped into the VW Bug. Cody's eyes twinkled as he smiled. Alanis's mind panicked as thoughts of Cody liking her entered her mind. But they soon diminished as Cody started the car and stormed of toward the concert.
"You shouldn't have to cover my eyes. I'm not going to peek" Alanis said dryly with Cody's hands covered her face. Cody laughed. "I don't care" Cody said with a chuckle, "Peeking might ruin your birthday present" he said and Alanis sighed.
"I'm not going to peek"
"I know that tone…you are so"
"I am not"
"Oh just shush. Talking wastes energy on the wonderful day of May 7th." Cody said. Alanis began to feel like she was a blind person being lead through a crowd of teenage girls who screamed when Alanis heard the sound of a car. The sound echoed in her ears for almost five minutes after it stopped.

Zac looked outside. Another crowd covered sidewalks and filtered out into the streets. Zac brightened his face for the cameras, rolled down his window and waved to the people with a biggest goofy grin in the world plastered on his face. As he passed the crowd he saw a person, a girl, she had her eyes covered by a boy with brown eyes and blonde hair who wore a lime green shirt with bright red shorts. The girl looked so familiar. 'Probably a fan that follows us everywhere' Zac thought.

Alanis felt so awkward being lead around by Cody. She nearly tripped five times walking to their seats. "Sit" Cody commanded her. Alanis sat down.
"The concert's gonna start soon, don't get your panties in a knot" Cody said when Alanis began squirming around.
"Now here's the little surprise Alanis, you have to plug your ears until they finished announcing the band's name and the little speech the main singer gives, then they're going to play the first song, I want you to tell me the name of the song and the band then you'll get your other present" Cody said. Alanis frowned but then thought she could live with it.
About two minutes later Alanis had to plug her ears and wait. It seemed like forever with every shout sounding like a whisper and echoing around her head.
"Now unplug your ears and tell me the name of the song"
Alanis listened. For a second the crowd was silent, then it boomed all around her in shout and screams. On the stage a lone voice rang out clearly among the noise.

"I tried so much to replace you
To remember everything you do
But nothing can compare to the way I loved you
An angel with golden wings
An inscription on a diamond ring
We'll always have forever

Forever lonely
Always waiting in the dark
Forever lonely
Always waiting for your spark
To light my torch and fire
Making me whole once again

And when I never see the sunrise again
Is when I forget you
I'll forget the past
And everything we could've done
So as surely as I see the sun
Everything we've said and done
Is treasured deep within my heart

Alanis gasped deeply. She couldn't believe her ears. In a minute she wouldn't believe her eyes. "Hanson…Hanson, it's Hanson." Alanis whispered. Cody removed his hands then wiped them on his pants for tears had been running down Alanis's cheeks in thick rivers. He then pulled Alanis's other present from his back pocket.
Alanis felt Cody put something around her neck. She looked down, backstage passes.
"Oh my God, you got me backstage passes? Cody I love you! You are the bestest friend I ever had!" Alanis screamed and wrapped her arms around Cody's neck. Cody smiled and gave a little laugh
