"Silver Butterfly"

***Note: I consider this the best thing I've ever written. Stylistically, I've never been able to do this again. Rhyming couplets, either in song or poetry, are just not something I can do. This is also a strange song in that I didn't really consciously write it. I was sitting in a class one day, randomly scribbling, and started writing this down. It just came to me, I didn't work on it at all, just wrote down what came into my mind. Considering it's told from the point of view of a spirit that's come back to earth to send a message...I think that's pretty damn cool. :) ~Bree

And as a silver butterfly
Released upon the shining sky
I’d fly from Heaven to the dawn
And never think of where I’d gone.

Return to where I didn’t leave
Remind the people to believe
Fight the good fight for my love
On my wings from God above.

Trust I know what I can’t see
Trust I am what I can’t be
Trust I’ll try ‘til I have won
A victory for the chosen one.

Let the fire in my eyes
Say damn the problems, damn the lies
One for every time I bleed
‘Til this butterfly is freed.

Smile on me, Heaven, please
As I get down on my knees
And stand up for the ghost today

Say silver butterflies are rare
I cannot bring myself to care
Say could’ve done it, not you or now
But I disagree only way I know how.

I am not what I may seem
I am made by what I dream
Would it chill you to your core
If I said I’m one who’s gone before?

I have had a story to tell
And let me tell it, loud and clear
In my borrowed time ‘round here.

Butterflies can’t talk they say
God I proved them wrong today
This one spoke up loud and high
Spirits’ voices don’t have to die.
