I now download a majority of my music from the internet using "Bit Torrent" technology. For anyone with a high speed internet connection, I highly recommend checking it out. There are several excellent sites for downloading lots of great music!! For anyone interested, do a Google search for "Bit Torrent" to find a lot information. A good place to start is here.
For those not familiar with this technology, simply put, .wav files are compressed and made available for downloading, usually as .shn or .flac files. These compressed files are about half the size of a .wav. Once downloaded, they are decoded/decompressed back to .wav files with absolutely no loss of sound quality. Downloads almost always include setlists and many contain artwork files. A nice feature is that now .wav files can be checked for quality, and edits can be made prior to burning them to disc. I've always made sure that the discs I sent are as problem free as possible and that they are always faded in and out as appropriate, and wherever possible, drop-outs are removed. Now I'm able to make these quality adjustments/edits prior to burning discs for myself.
Because of this relatively new technology, I have become very selective when setting up regular trades. I prefer small trades and ask that either your original or the copy made for me be checked for errors and any track transition problems. Also, since I have covers for all of my shows, I'll request that either artwork or setlists be provided, unless they are available on the internet. I continue to always offer artwork for anything listed on my website.
Please let me know of any disc problems prior to mailing, and I will do the same.
