Timeline (1970-Present):

  • 1970-73: Studied clarinet to Grade 4.

  • 1975: Took up the drums in school, formed a pop band Sapphire and toured most clubs in South Wales, Took my first drum lessons, played clubs, cabaret and first Big Band.

  • 1978-1982: Freelanced in different bands in S. Wales, more lessons with Martin Webber in Swansea, an excellent teacher.

  • 1983: Played in various bands, rock, jazz, Big Band sessions. Took percussion lessons at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

  • 1984: My first professional gig in the Top Rank in Swansea.

  • 1985: I studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, studied with Ed Uribe, Skip Hadden, Jim Hunt, Jaco Pastorius, and played in the college Studio recording Big Band and also the Jingle band with Bob Friedman.

  • 1986: Moved to London and started to break in. Played with the NYJO, John Etheridge, Bertice Reading, Brian Dee, and many other bands and artistes. I also started to teach.

  • 1986 -1996: Freelanced in many bands, I did sessions for TV and radio. I played with Anita Carmichael, Sax Appeal, System X, The London Jazz Orchestra, Tori Amos and many more in all styles.

  • 1997: I did the Bee Gees on TOTP, World Music Awards, from Monte Carlo. I played the Montreaux , Seville, Barcalona Jazz festivals with Anita Carmichael, and we also did a week at Ronnie Scotts.

  • 1998: More freelance work, TV and radio sessions. Albums with the Brit Pops Orchestra, Sara Jory, I played Fame the Musical in the West End, and in the Stringfellows House band. I also started doing drum clinics the first of which was filmed and produced as a video. Teaching also was a priority.

  • 1999: Another drum clinic at Neath College that was also produced as a video, more freelancing and stints on Guys and Dolls at the South Bank and more Fame.

  • 2000: I did a Sony Handicam TV advert, the final Big Breakfast TV show. I signed an endorsement deal with Pearl UK and they built me my custom snare. I moved house and built a teaching studio, I was teacher of the month on Mike Dolbear.com and I became MD at the Talk of London.

  • 2002: I recorded my first live TV and Radio broadcast in Cardiff for the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra, which is now out on album. I did 4 tracks for the West End Show Jail house Rock, including BVs. More freelance stuff and I started teaching at the ACM in Guilford.

  • 2003: I supported Haracio 'El Negro' Hernandez on his London clinic. I recorded BBC TVs My Hero, The Fast Show Farewell DVD and a number of TV movies for Phil Pope. I recorded a jazz album for Lauren Field and Melinda Lightfoot. I was featured in Blues Matters, Jazz Wise, Songlink Int and Berklee Today magazines, I did my first drum clinic and teaching in Norway and I recieved a beautiful endorses kit from Pearl.

  • 2004: More TV's for Phil Pope, a second live album with the BBC WSO, more teaching and freelancing.

  • 2005: Currently studying for a Degree in Music at the ACM, composing, singing and playing on my first solo album. A live TV and concert for the URDD in Cardiff, more playing, and just off to Norway again to teach.

1
