Chapter 4

Isaac replaced the receivor and took a deep breath. He picked up the scattered papers and arranged them in the order they were written. He picked up the envelope of pictures and began walking to his, Taylor, and Zac's room. Isaac lightly knocked. No answer. At least he quit listening to that music, Isaac thought as he opened the door.

Taylor quickly shut his journal and spat out, "Don't you know how to knock?!"

"I did," Isaac said. "Listen, Taylor, I know you're upset about Jessi," Isaac began.

"You don't know what I am!" Taylor snapped.

Isaac bit his tongue. "I would if you would tell me," Isaac said calmly.

"NO!" Taylor hollered.

"Look!" Isaac yelled, not controlling his temper, "I'm tired of you snapping and hollering at the people who care about you! You're not the only one suffering from this break-up either! Jessi is in the hospital in a coma!"

Taylor looked like he had been slapped across his face. He just sat there, digesting what Isaac has just said. He looked at his brother and whispered, "Are you serious?"

"Yes," Isaac said. "The package was from Christina."

"Well, what was in it?" Taylor snapped. Isaac gave him a warning look, and Taylor said, "I'm sorry, I'm just really worried about her."

"I know," Isaac said. "Here," he said as he handed Taylor the pictures and the journal entries.

Taylor looked at the pictures first and gasped at what he saw. "Is this really her?" he whispered.

"Yes," Isaac said sadly. "She looks totally different, doesn't she?"

"Yes," Taylor said. "Why did she do this?"

"Read the journal entries and you'll understand a little."

"Did you read them?" Taylor asked.

"Only one and a half," Isaac replied.

"Why?"

"I didn't like what I read," Isaac said simply.

Taylor gave his brother a worried look and slowly began reading. He skimmed the first two entries and put the stack of papers on his bed. "I don't want to read anymore now," he said. "Did Christina send a letter or anything?"

"Yes," Isaac said as he handed Taylor the letter.

Taylor skimmed the letter. "I can't believe it," he muttered as he stood up and walked to the window.

"Neither can I," Isaac said.

"Why did she do this?" Taylor asked.

"Because she loves you," Isaac said.

"But she dumped me!" Taylor exclaimed.

"She did because she wanted what was best for you."

"What's best for me is being with her."

"She thought it was your music," Isaac sighed.

"Isaac?"

"Yes?"

"When does the next flight for New York leave?"
