Hi! Welcome to my homepage!

Duran Duran page

Why a page devoted to Duran Duran? An eighties teen idol group for girls? This wasn't really serious music that they created; was it? It was danceable, but the very intelligent lyrics written by Simon Le Bon gave them a different type of danceable music! This group obviously liked to experiment with different styles. On some songs, the pop rhythms owe a great deal to ethnic music; others deal with acoustic interplay, some with soul, others with a more arty approach! Certainly this group consisted of musicians who possessed the good looks of models, but their music was infectiously entertaining! Some of their best songs, e.g. "Save A Prayer" from Rio and "Ordinary World" represented outstanding musicianship. Sure, they relied upon sythesizers and yes, they dominated "Music Television" in the early days, (with their well-produced videos) but their music owed more to the melodicism of Roxy Music & David Bowie (in fact, the vocals on "New Moon On Monday" sound a great deal like David Bowie) and symphonic rock, "art rock/pop rock" etc. than just to the sound of the 1980's time period when New Wave artists predominated rock after the demise of punk.

Duran Duran     (1981)

No opinion! I haven't heard it yet!

Rio     (1982)

This album still remains one of my favorites! It features: "The Chauffeur," "Hungry Like A Wolf," "Rio," "New Religion," "Save A Prayer." Each of the songs are extremely well-crafted and are extremely melodic and danceable.

Seven and the Ragged Tiger     (1983)

No opinion! I haven't heard it yet! But it does contain, "Union Of The Snake," "New Moon On Monday" and "The Reflex" which can also be heard on Greatest .

Arena     (1984)

Okay, I really think that even though this is a live album; it is Duran Duran's best recording! Featuring live versions of the classics, including: "The Chauffeur" and "Save A Prayer" from Rio, in addition to other great songs.

Duran Duran     (1993)

Highlights include: "Come Undone" and "Ordinary World!" Two tremendous songs which can also be found on Greatest!

Thank You     (1996)

I do not own it!

Medazzaland     (1997)

I haven't heard it yet!

The Compilations

Decade: Greatest Hits · Greatest

Decade: Greatest Hits

A very good compilation of songs, featuring: "Girls on Film" from Duran Duran, "Save A Prayer," "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf" from Rio, "Union Of The Snake" and "Reflex" from Seven and the Ragged Tiger and "Wild Boys" from Arena. However, the last four songs are not as great as the preceding ten!

Greatest     (1998)

Forget what I said about Decade! Of any existing compilation, this is the one to get! This compilation sheds a new light on Duran Duran. Yes, they wrote songs with good pop hooks, but surprise, surprise! surprise! they were also excellent musicians. Listen to the orchestration behind "Ordinary World," "Save A Prayer," "Come Undone" and others, this showed that Duran Duran was certainly an able 80's group. This compilation gives us what we have actually been waiting for! Those two songs from Duran Duran which actually outshine anything that this group had done since Rio. Add these two songs to the rest of the contents of Decade and you have a superb, highly recommended compilation!
