AKD's Middle Moody Blues page
Hi! Welcome to my homepage!
During this period, The Moody Blues essentially became one of the fathers of "art-rock". The type of inspiration which would later lead to some of the most inventive and beautiful music heard in the latter half of the 20th century. The beautiful vocal harmonies which The Moody Blues created set them above much of the other groups at this time and made them "art-rockers" par excellence!

Inventive, revolutionary, far ahead of its' time, Days Of Future Passed showed an incredible change from the earlier Moody Blues albums; Days is one of the first concept albums. Released in 1967, slightly after The Beatles' Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Days
Of Future Passed concerns the concept of the average day. Some people have suggested that this album actually deals with an individual's lifetime. Beginning with their birth during the morning and concluding with their death at "Late Lament."
Another suite which follows a similar theme is "The Fountain Of Lamneth" from Caress Of Steel by Rush. Altogether, this concept album was among the first art-rock albums! Two superb songs come from
this album: "Tuesday Afternoon," which was originally titled-"Forever Afternoon: Tuesday?" and the Moody Blues most famous song-"Nights In White Satin!" The rest of the cd is
tremendous, the orchestrations work well with the songs!

In Search Of The Lost Chord is another magnificent Moody Blues cd!
Dealing with songs concerning drugs and mysticism, there are many great songs: "Visions Of Paradise," "Voices In The Sky," "The Best Way To Travel" and the raga-like, "Om!" This disc also contains
several masterpieces, most notably: "The Actor," "House Of Four Doors" and "House Of Four Doors(part 2)," "The Actor" and the Ray Thomas penned masterpiece-"Legend Of A Mind!" Altogether,
a fantastic cd! "Legend Of A Mind" and "The Actor" can also be found on This Is!
On The Threshold Of A Dream is another magnificent middle period album! The best songs on this disc are:
"Lovely To See You," "Dear Diary," "Never Comes The Day," "The Dream," "Have You Heard (Part 1)," "The Voyage" and "Have You Heard (Part 2)." Each of these
songs can be found on the compilation-This Is The Moody Blues!

To Our Children's Children's Children is The Moody Blues' conceptual masterpiece! Even better than Days or Lost Chord, this cd is absolutely
awesome! Concerning space travel, many of The Moody Blues' best songs make their appearance on this album! "Candle Of Life" is absolutely
fantastic, so are: "Eyes Of A Child, part 1," "Beyond," "Eternity Road," "Watching And Waiting," "I Never Though I'd Live To Be A Hundred,"
"I Never Thought I'd Live To Be A Million" and "Out And In!" But, the absolute masterpiece is:
"Gypsy (Of A Strange And Distant Time)!" Undoubtedly, "Gypsy" must have influenced other "art-rock" groups to delve into
the theme of space exploration! Most notably, Rush, Yes and Pink Floyd!
A Question Of Balance deals with ecological concerns! It is not as great as To Our Children's Children's Children, but still better than
most of the albums that follow! The best songs are: "Question," "And The Tide Rushes In" and "Melancholy Man!"
Other than "Procession" and "Story In Your Eyes," this album does not have many memorable songs!
Seventh Sojourn has four great songs: "New Horizons," "For My Lady," "Isn't Life Strange" and "I'm Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band!"
Each of these songs can be found on the superb compilation-This Is The Moody Blues!
