“To have a cast come together Speech”
By Suzette Drake
Back to the Darkness and LightActors, Crew, Friends,Give me just a moment, and you will most certainly benefit. As a cast I do not see us coming together as we should. Opening night is only a week away. I long to see commitment and desire in your eyes and in your actions for this play. It has been hard. It has been long. But what would all the harshness and the long hours we have put in be for, if you do not come together on this? Friends, and I call you this because you are- we have been spending so much time together that you have become my second family. We most certainly have been seeing each other than our families. You have all come this far with me, and we still have further yet to go. But we can go further! You only have to want it badly enough! What do the critics know of us? If you do not wan to go on stage and give it your all a week from now, then leave. I won’t hate you for it. I can understand if you do not want to work hard that night, and each rehearsal till then. We’ll surely enough find someone else to play your part from the chorus line. But oh, you wondrous cast members who will stay! Who will go out on that stage! Just think of it! Think of the audience applauding you night after night of performance because you are giving the stage every ounce of your heart and passion for this! And Crew! Crew we could never do this without you! You who light the actors and build the set! You who work tirelessly before and after all rehearsals and those days in between. Those who hunt for the props and work on the costumes! We need you still even more. You could leave too if you like- but just think of what you will be missing. Those applause are as much for you as for the director or the leads. Those applause from the audiences to come are for you all to relish in. But if you are not willing to all work. If you are not willing to give this your heart and all your effort you will feel nothing when the audiences puts together their hands. So do this with me! Be one another’s family and friend. Do not dare give an ounce of effort less then your brother standing now beside you! And take your places with pride on opening night!
