I'm gonna take this time to share with you all my favorite Verve moment...
It was back in june '95, one day I'd had it up to !here! with being treated
like a dog at work. I said 'fuck you' to the man and I walked out. That
night my cousin called me from Manitou springs, Colorado. She asked me what
I was gonna do, and I said go camping in the gorge. She said why don't I go
to CO? I said I'd think about it.
The next day she had a message on her answering machine "ellen-I'm
across the street at the Keg"
Ahhh colorado... I could feel the summer cold purging from my body as I
drove up out of this festering valley. I spent a couple days with her,
skiing on june 11 at A-Beachin'.
Then I went to Crested Butte, where I had worked for a year. I hung out
with friends, mtn biked up some trails.. lounged in the pool,. Leaving town
I went through the almont triange and picked wild sage. I lived in Almont,
and I remember the good old days, young and on my own, living in a cabin,
ski bum lifestyle. How I really miss those days.
I was playin A Storm In Heaven at least once every day, and driving down
the winding canyon road, I had gotten to Already There. If anyone of you
know what I mean by 'feeling Irie', let's just say that I was feeling good.
The setting sun and the crisp spring mountain air, shadows creating a
strobe effect across the road and steep sides of the canyon. And very loud,
my speakers are telling the truth:
"I felt my best years had left me, my best years have left me behind...
then I watch them COME BACK"
From that moment on, I knew this music held a place in my life. And I
hadn't even gotten to Durango yet...
