T-Bone.....Tom's 4 'er 5 year hiatus is over & he gives us all a bone w/ this 1....it's his best ,IMHO, since "Rain Dogs" ....If yer not a fan of Tom's...@ 1st listen this 1 just might shock ya a bit....2 put it mildly, it's different & this 1's a great 1 2 get if ya wanna fully appriciate what a great song writer he is.....from the lovely ballad "Hold On" and the obscure " Fillipino Box Spring Hog" & "What's He Building" 2 the almost gospel "Come On Up To The House", Mule Variations has it all...check it out & listen w/ an open ear, you'll be suprised!!
Train / Train (self titled)....on AWARE WK 38052 T-Bone...This Bay Area band comes outta nowhere w/ a very impressive debut CD...If ya like Matchbox 20, you'll love these guys....they've got that kinda sound...but it's more raw & less polished...it's real....it's another CD ya can just put on & let it play....great all the way thru....& it's gotta a few bonus tracks on the end....more bang 4 the buck!! woof..woof!!Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers / Echo.....on Warner Bros. 9 47294-2T-Bone...I think Tom & The Boys went into the studio lookin' 2 record a classic CD....cuz that's what they ended up w/...On Echo the songs seem 2 almost mesh 2gether 2 form a singular vision....not any of the songs really stand out from the others...it's almost like they're dependent on the song B4 or after it 2 either enlarge what you just heard, or lead 2 you 2 some other feeling....It's very good...I can't wait until I listen 2 this 1 in the Autumn....it's got that feel 2 it...when the leaves start 2 turn & the nights get cold....Echo will be great 2 listen 2!! WOOF!!
The Cranberries / Bury The Hatchet....on Island 314-524-611-2 Ham Bone/#3 Bone....This 1 just might be the cure 4 the summertime blues this year....this CD is chock-full of "feel good" grooves & nice lil melodies...I really enjoy the songs "You And Me " & " What's On My Mind", they're simple but yet complex....The art designer of this CD oughta either be commended or killed (jk..hehehe) I've caught myself on numerous occasions tryin' 2 open it up the wrong way...
The Iguanas / Sugar Town.....on Koch KOC CD-7996Ham Bone/#3 Bone...this 2 is a goodtime party CD....I played a few cuts from it @ my Uno De Mayo party earlier this year...it's a good release...it's got some great grooves, w/ a south of the border flavor, on it...so if yer goin' that way on yer vacation, this 1's a good 1 2 listen 2 while you go...kinda gets ya in the mood....ya know?? or if ya wanna relive some good times ya had in Mexico put it in & they'll come callin' back 2 ya.....woof..woof!! Jewel / Spirit....on Atlantic 82950-2#3 Bone....this 1's a moody thing...if yer in the mood 4 it...it's great...it's a quiet, mellow release...that's kinda nice 2 hear when I'm doin' my laundry..ya know?? it's unobtrusive in a way...'cept 4 the song " Down So Long" which, BTW's guitar riff I find very suspect....2 me it sounds like Tom Petty's "Last Dance W/ Mary Jane", which I swear is a complete ripoff of The Jayhawks song "Waiting For The Sun"...but @ least Tom knows the (at that time producer) of The Jayhawks, George Drakoulias....where Jewel fit's in all of this is anybody's guess....well now since I've stirred up some controversy....I'll end this review..heheheheShawn Mullins / Soul's Core...on Columbia CK 69637#3 Bone...this 1's almost cut in the same vein as the CD of Jewel's...very unobtrusive...nice 2 clean the house 2...but I prefer it 2 Jewel's in that Shawn didn't rip anybody off 2 make it...ouch!! pick it up if ya wanna, it isn't that bad.... The Runt...Red Hot Chilli Peppers / Californication.....on Warner Bros. 9 47386-2#3 Bone.....the highly anticipated return of guitarist John Frusciante 2 the band comes off uneventfull & untriuphant...4 the most part this cd has a "watered-down" sound & it lacks the grooves that made the Chilli Peppers Red Hot 2 begin w/...."old-school" fans will find this 1 disappointing...whereas maybe the younger, and more wider, MTV audience may love it...only time will tell...
2 go back 2 The Dog House..
