Comments:
There should be a constitutional amendment to make Madam from the show "Madam's Place" Secretary of State in place of M. Albright. By the way, the '80s ended by 1986 as far as I'm concerned. After that is nothing but nasty honky rap and hip hop, essentially the precursor to the early '90s. I think of guys with long hair, jean jackets, and Comaros when I think of the '80s, not mulle s, purple tank-tops, baggy "Joey Buttafucco" pants, and Ton Loc. ------- The life of a repo man is always intense.

Yes, in basements and attics up and down the country the fashions and music are kept alive by the will of those so close to them. Tremble in fear, yo patriarchs of the 90's, for your day is ending to make way for the glorious dawn of our New Order...the era of the 80's that will Live Forever. Be ready! Yes, for the times are coming when we will retake what was ours, and the whole world will know the glory of our victory. Do not be afraid...it is...the only way. BE READY...THE TIME IS NEAR

Like far out the 80's were so groovy. The bands were so phat. "I will survive" was my favorite song of all time. The only time when the eighties sucked was when JFK was assasinated, but than we won the Revolutionary War so I am like stoked. Keep it real Imagine if Poison was around during the 80's, than it really would have been the greatest decade.

How come in the 80's a lot of people remmembered the 60's, but in the 90's they actually remmembered a lof of the 80's? The pop hype, no doubt. Everything was meant to be fun, since in the cold war era it would be a matter of seconds and the pushing of a utton and Boom! No civilization. Now what do we have? Without the added excitement of the real chance to blow earth any minute, we do all realise we are nothing but cogs to major industries/enterprises. Why our brothers/sons have to grow up having in mind they will live in a globalized world, in which every bit of their minds will have to be aimed for being more productive? I miss all of the late 70's and entire 80's... Here in Mexico we had very hard economical times, but at least, we had hopes that time. . We have to strike back!

And I just bought myself a screaming red Camaro, 'cause in high school, all the cool guys had Camaro's, and now I can be a cool GAL (before they stop making Camaro's)! The only tapes in this c r are 80's stuff: Poison, New Wave, hair bands, stuff like that. Music was so much fun then, not this angry crap that's on the radio now. Did you ever willingly drink New Coke?: I don't recall. Probably not--Im a born Pepsi drinker. "I pledge allegiance to the flag/ Michael Jackson is a fag..."

Comments:
The 80s were such a fun-filled decade to grow up in, and I feel so lucky to have been able to do so. The music was different--you had rap (that was actually creative!), New Wave, punk, R&B, and even country (Kenny Rogers "Lady" is still a favorite) coexisting. I missed out of some of the pop culture--I went to a Christian school, and my parents were the kind of people who threw away my Garbage Pail Kids when they found them in my drawer. So, unfortunately, I didnt have the chance to dress in 80s clothes or listen to ALL of the music as it was happening. I DID however, steal money from my Mom's purse to buy a copy of Beastie Boys' "License to Ill." Let's face it--the 80s were FUN!!! Pac-Man, He-Man, GI JOE, the Cabbage Patch mania, infatuation with Molly Ringwald. I'm trying desperately to get back that feeling--a sense of optimism and hope for the future. We can't save the world folks, so put down the picket sign that says "Save the Slug" and "Free Mumia" (he's gonna fry and there's not a THING you can do). Go put on a Smiths record and drink some Squeeze-Its. You'll feel alot better...

I agree with many other people hear that the 90's sucked. Nothing good came out of them except the internent and I think that was originally invented in the 80's. the 90's were so depresing and politicaly correct-aarrrhhh! They were OK up until about ' 4. There were about three good songs made after that year. I feel sorry for kids growing up today. Most cartoons and toys stink. They practically have to wear bullet proof vests in school to feel safe and now with the arival of caller ID and such, No m re prank phone calls! The 80's were a great time to grow up. When this current unwashed 90s generation - pouty teens who look like they crawled out of a garbage bin - gets a bit older, the next generation is going to barf on them. (We've seen this pattern too many times - who wants to be like the older sister/brot er?) The resurgence won't be exactly the same as what we remember of the 80s, but it will have a lot of our music to it. Bright, upbeat music, with positive and upbeat people. Women comb their hair and smile! Men that don't want jeans that could fit on a hippo (flared trousers) and show off their asses and legs again. It will be very interesting, and I am looking forward to it!

It's so great that there are so many of us out there that miss the 80's. Don't we all wish we could go back and live in the chicago subarbs and drive nice cars? The 90's were so superficial. Every one is so PC that everything has lost its depth. I did ot adapt well to the 90's(thank god they're over). Life just seemed so simple then. There was a sense of unity that Gen "Y" will never have. Going to all these 80's websites really makes me feel old. Two of the people I went to see E.T. with have pass d away already. I have two kids now and I wish they could have it as easy as we did. Our parents didn't worry about us getting shot in school. I wish everyone would just enjoy life and lighten up. Oh well, the 80's will be back soon. We already reliv d the hippies and disco, so we're due for and 80's revival any time soon. THANK GOD!

My thoughts on the 80s: mixed. On one hand, life was slower-paced, more stable, and less stressful. People cherished freedom, shouldered their responsibilities, and didn't sell their souls to be PC. They earned their money fairly, and were grateful. They didn't feel that hopping fr m one cause to another made them cool. It was one clean, sharp, honest, efficient, straight-shooting decade. Nowhere was that more true than in fashion. Women looked like sultry goddesses, not baggy blobs from some monster movie. That was the golden age of tight jeans: V-style, striped, or acid-washed. Men also dressed better, like real men. Then again, the 80s (and 70s) were primitive, without the liberating technology of the Internet and powerful computers. Neanderthal jocks seemed to run everything. Ignorance was bliss (that started to change only in the last few years). Bill Clinton su ks, but Bill Gates rules. The 80s would have been perfect if Gates and Microsoft were around then! Critics say the 80s were conformist and superficial. That may have been true, but it was true in an honest way. All eras had their pop-culture, even the 60s, despite its pretensions of moral superiority. People were people then too.

How lucky we are that we remember the 80s! Remember when you were the coolest if you were the first on your block with MTV and everyone would go over to the house just to watch? Arcade games actually required real skill and stamina to survive more than 2 inutes? Arcades used to be shady hangouts for all the 'cool people'. Now they're staging areas for birthday parties for 8 year olds. Drive by shootings and teenagers using guns in school were almost unheard of? When the military deployed to a foreign coun ry, they wholeheartedly stomped *ss? When we had a real President, not a shady dirtbag? The 90's suck so bad, kids actually PAY MONEY TO WEAR BELL BOTTOMS! They're the only ones who aren't old enough to realize how crappy the '70s were the first time arou d! HAHAH you wouldn't be caught DEAD in the '80s with bell bottoms or disco music. Don't even get me started on music. What do the 90s have for superstars. Garth Brooks, Shania or Celine maybe? They aren't jack compared to (the old)Michael Jackson,Duran D ran,and Madonna. And what about Tupac/Puff Homo. Steal everyone's music and spout nonsense. At least Run DMC had talent and they made rap fun to listen to. Nobody jumped on the country bandwagon in the 80's either. You were either a real cowboy or a fag i you were walking around in boots and hat twenty years ago. People drag raced real American muscle cars then, not rice mobiles with funny wings on the back and weedwacker mufflers. Even the 'mindless' TV from the 80's is ten times better than the unorigin l make fun of whitey bullcrap in the 90's. As a nation, as a generation, we could take on the world and WE KNEW IT! 90's slackers would rather turn to the weed and feel sorry for themselves. We must never forget this decade of prosperity and optimism, and how fortunate we were to be brought up in it!!!

Candlemass, Slayer, Wasp, OLD Metallica, (Kill em all) Ratt, Ozzy, Dokken, Dio, Celtic Frost.. I remember getting into my truck back when I played metal guitar in 1988 and my hair would hit the headliner, Those were the days... Do any of the teenagers today even know who Randy Rhoads was?? I am in my late 20's & all if most of my CDs are either "Best of" or just one hit wonders or "Greatest Hits". I cannot stand, and I mean cannot stand this decade & the garbage that came with it. Music just totally blows & fashion sucks, just sucks you kno what. I can count on one hand what my favourite 90's musicians are, that's how pathetic I think music today is and I can guarantee it's not Green Day or Korn or those cousins of New Kids on the Block (there's about 10 of them wannabees, yes?) Hate Celine Dion. But I absolutely cannot recall anything about this decade when it passes. To hell with the crappy grungy bands, dance music & rap. I have video cassettes by the arm full that's packed with eighties video. That's the only form of entertaiment I can r late too. Videos today are a complete joke and so are the people who listen to it. I used to hate heavy metal bands like Judas Priest and Cinderella, but now I am praying for that to come back and wipe out today's trash. Eighties will come again.

I was born in 1980 but I still have a fond memory of the 80's. For one thing we had Reagan, a strong president that was worthy of respect and who was also full of patriotism and had a true concern as well as love for the American people. It was unlike th 90's when we have a president who is a possible communist, traitor, and whose horniness puts Austin Powers to shame(Bill). Even better, we didn't have Hillary Clinton back then either. MTV actually played music videos and was truly worthy of its namesa e, unlike now when we have garbage like "The Real World." People seemed to be happy and at the same time ambitious. We didn't have the ACLU and PC organizations dictating how we should lead our lives and 'format' our thoughts but instead we lead our liv s the way we wanted to. The government back then never 'subsidized' opinions like it frequently does now. 80's shows weren't too full of sex, unlike today's trash on the tube where sex is like the only plot most of the time. Family values actually mattered on TV most of the time during the 80's. Overall, there wasn't so much emphasis on 'relative morality' and people back then more or less shared a basic set of good core values. Even better, we felt good about having such values and not so cynical about them. We were optimistic and full of ambi ion and energy, ready to undo the social and economic damages of the previous 2 decades. We were ready to fight communism, restore the 'American Dream' and party at the same time. We just felt so good. Music-wise, the lyrics of 80's songs mean somethin and weren't in any way like today's 'babbling'. Other than the economy and new technology(as well as newer episodes of Simpsons), the 90's stinks and I don't how any 90's 'fan' can uphold political correctness as something to be proud of. The 80's just rocked as a decade.

I became a teen in '81 so I was the perfect age to thoroughly enjoy all the 80's had to offer, Metal shows the girls who attended them, that was most of the reason for going to shows. Go to a so-called Metal show now you can't tell the girls from the boys and the music SUCKS. Rap and Metal is an UNHOLY marriage that could only be pulled of in a BULLSHIT decade such as this. The 90's will be remembered about as fondly as a JACK DANIEL's hangover. What a lame PC driven nightmare this has been. If you are like me, I feel that I took the 80's for granite. What I mean by that is, I was so wrapped up in having fun, hanging out with my friends, just being so care free, that when December 31, 1989 hit, I was left with a feeling of (What Just Happened ?? Who knew that the 90's were going to be this bad?! The bets decade is long gone now, and 2000 is upon us. Lets keep the 80's alive, and hope and pray that 2000 will bring a change for the better, because if 2000 is anything like the 90's were, I may a well give it up. Keep the 80's alive. It's already November of 1999 as I write this. It doesn't seem like so long ago that I found myself saying "We've only got 20 minutes of the 80s left!" (No prizes for guessing when that was.) From the start, the 90s just haven't really impressed me, and m st of the time the 90s pale in comparison with the 80s. I'm not saying that the 90s are all bad -- in the midst of our shockingly horrendous popular culture you can still find musical gems such as the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Reel Big Fish and Area 7 (a li tle-known Aussie ska band). And although the 80s was, in my humble opinion, the absolute peak of Hollywood moviemaking (just look at my list of favourite movies above), the occasional good flick still comes along, like RUSHMORE, or THE TRUMAN SHOW, or dar I say THE MUMMY (although that was obviously just a 90s attempt at reviving the Indiana Jones genre). But generally, the 90s has been a decade of mediocrity, gloominess and the popularisation of sadness. It seems to be the "in thing" to be depressed thes days. Why has there been such a dramatic and unfortunate change? It surprises me more when I see people looking back at arguably bad elements of the 80s (such as George Michael and Boy George... aaaaarrrrgghhh!! shudder) and using them as a basis for wri ing off the entire decade and dismissing all of the cool things that the decade came out with. No decade is perfect, but the 80s came about as close as a decade can come to perfection. But maybe things move in cycles. The 60s rocked, the 70s sucked, the 8 s rocked, and the 90s obviously suck, so next decade should probably rock. However I'm not done yet; I choose to rant a bit further. 90s music sucks. It's horrible to see what sort of crap has become popular these days. The Vengaboys? AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH SOMEBODY KILL ME!!! I cannot STAND to live in a time when such disgu ting, worthless, vile musical vomit as the Vengaboys is popular! But I guess people have to like it, when they only have the choices of cheesy and thoroughly worn-out-sounding techno, monotonous rap, depressing grunge, and other noise that simply defies d scription. And what the hell is the deal with this goddamn disco revival?! It wasn't meant to come back! People in the 80s finally managed to kill it and now these 90s schmucks have brought it BACK!! WHY!?? Furthermore, I'm extremely annoyed by the fact t at most of the music released these days still sounds pretty much the same as music released in, say, 1993 or so. Take techno, for example. Call it what you will; dance, rave, I call it crap. I liked it when it was new, in the early 90s, but to have the s me incredibly boring backbeat (Thud tsh thud tsh thud tsh thud tsh) playing constantly for at least eight years has caused me to twitch with revulsion every time I hear a techno beat. And there's no avoiding it! It's EVERYWHERE these days! Everything has rap or a techno beat to it now. Even the major networks here in Australia have put horrible rap or techno beats to their promo music. And what about all the bastardization of 80s songs that happens these days? Take Puff (Poof?) Daddy's theft of the 1983 olice classic "Every Breath You Take". The original song was perfect in every way, and now it's been tainted forever by a man who has all the originality and artistic ability of a turnip. And Tupac Shakur's plagiarism of Bruce Hornsby & The Range's "The W y It Is". Surely there are still original ideas that can be dreamed up! I have very little faith in popular culture these days. And what about TV itself? I can hardly watch it anymore. First in the mid-90s it was that annoying "NYPD Blue" technique of mov ng the camera around constantly. That got very annoying very quickly. But then it got worse; these days you've got oh-so-cliched slow-motion shots with a weird shot composition that washes out all the colours and gives everything a gloomy, mundane samenes . And all those rapid-fire flashes of light that make you feel like you're being assaulted by the paparazzi. And the soundtrack sounds like my car did before I got new brake-pads for it: a harsh, nerve-shattering, screeching, scraping noise. This is not t e way to use a creative medium! What the hell is wrong with people in the film & TV industry these days? Popular culture seems to be all about punishing yourself and others. Which leads me to my next point. If there was one thing which could sum up the 90 , it would be the film THE MATRIX. Aside from the fact that it was a hyped-up, overrated, extraordinarily bad chunk of steaming cinematic dung, it began with an intriguing premise but became caught up in tired cliches which revealed the true frightening n ture of things now: the fact that it is supposedly "cool" these days to put on a black trench coat and go around shooting people. Are we forgetting something? Do the words "Columbine High School" mean anything to anyone?? Something is very wrong with the 0s. It surprises me that more people don't see it. Aw, to hell with it. SCREW THE 90s! I'm going back. BACK TO THE 80s! Anybody wanna join me? Adios! Ciao! So long people! See you in THE 80s!

Although I'm from Generation Y I love the 80's. The early 90's are good too but lots of 90's music I could do without. I almost 17. I was born in 1982 and I didn't start kindergarden until 1988. If only I was born 10 years earlier so I could be part of the 80's generation with excellent music instead of having to put up with crappy groups like the Spice Girls, Hanson, and the Backstreet Boys.

I am a child of the 80's. There IS no better era. I wish I could go back now, being the age that I am. (21) Did we have any worries then? No. We just had to make sure our boom boxes were big enough, our hair high enough. We contacted friends by phon , not pagers or cell phones. Friday nights meant sleepovers. It was the era of E.T. and Cabbage Patch Kids. (Weren't your friends jealous when you got the new ones?) May all of your lite brites keeping working, your atari keep playing (remember Q-bert ) your big wheel always take you where you need to go. The 80's were awesome.

Save Ferris Bueller Ferris Bueller, an inspirational leader for the youth of America has fallen deathly ill. A sample of his blood has been sent to Atlanta for the Center for Disease Control, though it doesn't look good. Ferris has been said to have been bricking heavily and his illness has been described as something that resembles the movie "Alien." Ferris Bueller is an icon. He appeals to sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, pinheads, dweebies, wonkers and richies. They all adore him. That is because he represents something more than just rebellious youth. More than any other figure, Ferris Bueller represents the 80's. The attitude, the clothes and the "What the Hell" mentality are captured in this young man from the Chicago suburbs. Therefore, the Save Ferris Campaign is more than just an attempt to save our ill spokesman...it is an attempt to revive the excitement and fervor of the 80's. The Save Ferris icon symbolizes a love of all things of the 80's. A nostalgia for Duran Duran and He-Man. A love of adventure and feathered hair styles. Most importantly, though, a lust for life. All those who support this cause, please copy the "Save Ferris" graphic and source code which accompanies it. Then, place the graphic and the accompanying source code on your page(s). Finally, e-mail Sean Milstead, director of the Save Ferris Campaign, and let him know that you have joined the program. Please be sure to include in your subject heading "Save Ferris". Thank you.

If I had known the 90's were gonna suck this bad, I would've killed myself Dec 31st, 89! I think there should be a HUGE CONVENTION for people like us! And I have three letters for the suckiness of the 90's- MTV! What happened to playing videos? Whats with all these lame shows that have nothing to do with music? Down with 90's RAP and TECHNO! Anyway, my favorite years of the 80's would have to be 85-86. I was only 12 but I always looked up to my older sister and her friends. They seemed to have so much fun. By the time I was her age, we weren't allowed to have fun anymore! If anyone wants to -mail me and stroll down 80's memory lane please feel free. I love that decade. By the way, does anyone have Jermaine Stewart's "We don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off"? That was a cool song!

Where do I start on the 80's? I suppose every generation thinks that their's was the best of times and I am certaintly no different. Reagan, the music and fashion, the 80's had it all! I can look back fondly on junior high dances with "Total Eclipse" p aying in the background or I can think of "The Dukes" on the tube. My sister was born in '82 which means she will graduate in 2001. I truly can't see her looking back fondly at Puff Daddy or Manson. And, by the way, a note for all these 90's groups: l ghten up, for God's sake! It's only music! Yes, Eddie Vedder, Jeremy spoke in class today. You know what he said? He said for you to gettin a life and buy yourself the 1987 self-titled Henry Lee Summer album, or maybe some Journey! The 80's rule! Dave created in 1970 (Don't do the math, as of March I'm 28)

I also wish they would put all of the game shows back on Nickelodon and the music videos back on MTV and then have a seperate channel or Nick Jr. for the cartoons and the "pre-school" shows that they play on there now. Please e-mail me sometime I would like to receive a message from any of you who are stuck in the 80's like me. Kim, from Michigan.

Thank God some other people have seen the light! The 90's are most depressing decade in the history of the world. Even during the Depression, there was some good to it. What have the 90's brought us? The 80's had the best hair, fashions, movies, and b st of all, music. I cringe when I listen to "music" of today. Our generation had upbeat music, THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS! Please, ladies, if you're out there, (and I know you are), drop me a line. If I have to go out on one more date and listen to someone praise grunge, I'll go nuts!

I have to hand it to the creators of this site, as well as all of the others I have visited in the last week. I was 14 in 1982, so I was *right* in the middle of the best decade ever to hit a calendar. Seeing all of these images and thoughts from fellow hildren of the 80's has really moved me. I had forgotten (bogus!)just how pleasant the 80's were in contrast to the cynical, pessimistic, guilt ridden, scared of everything 90's. I *really* miss being able to wear anything at all, in any combination and ot be frowned on. I even miss the stuff that makes me shudder a little nowadays, like my "Hey, that John Taylor look is pretty cool" phase. Heh, but it got the babes! Man oh man, I could flashback all night long. If anyone out there wants to go back w th me, drop me a line, I would love to have all of you aboard.

Thank you for letting me know that I am not a freak because I wish the calendar still read 1984... I miss the '80's so badly; what happened to all the happiness that used to surround us during the '80's? Why are we not allowed to have fun anymore? What happened to the laughter and the supreme silliness, the way we didn't take ourselves or life so seriously? Will we ever have those heady, wonderful, magical days again? I say we all should throw our calendars away, and put up our Culture Club or Duran D ran 1984/1985 calendars, and pretend that the '90's never happened!!! Whoever agrees with me, send me an E mail... The 90's life is just to fast-pace and hectic. I'm sorry but life in the 80's is just nice, peaceful and colourful. For me, the people from that era are fantastic. It's colourful, just take a look at the rock era during the 80's. It's joyful, most of the musics features people dancing all around. Example, Madonna and Janet Jackson during the 80's produced musics that are more upbeat and full with life compared to their musics nowadays. I miss the 80's a lot....anyone care to share experiences....or just chat....drop a line.

The 80's was my childhood, so of course I enjoyed it. (except for school) It was all fun and carefree! but outside of what I did on my own, I don't remember alot of it. I love alot of 80's music and movies NOW, like the Breakfast Club, all three Back t the Future Movies, U2, and alot of shows and videos VH1 re-runs. But at the time I just stuck with what I knew, and didn't really notice all the other "cool, narley, and radical" stuff going on. But I do remember the slang, and I remember neon socks. And I remember the music, and I went to a New Kids concert. (so if there's anyone else out there thinking they need therapy to get them through the horrific memories of New Kids, e-mail me :) ) Great site guys! Stay Footloose! :)

The 80s were good to me. The whole decade was about having a good time and not taking things too seriously. The 90s have been WAY too heavy and made angst fashionable. I've spent most of this decade wanting to yell "LIGHTEN UP!!!" I don't care what anyone says about how greedy and mercenary the 80s were. They beat the hell out of the politically correct, guilt-soaked, existential crisis 90s!!! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to stroll down memory lane and for being a crusader in the war to keep the decade alive.

I'd just like to say as I approach my 30th b-day this year, I'm glad to see the appreciation for GOOD 80's music coming back around, now to that-- I am also repulsed that the crappy stuff has to come with it(new Kids, Menudo, and all the other cheesy wond rs of 80's land--And I know that for anyone reading this I know that the movie Hard to Hold basically was pretty bad--soundtrack was good though --And I am still a fan of Rick Springfield's on of the most under rated an brushed off talents of the 80's

I love the 80's more than anything. It sounds a little silly, but I really regret being born in 1979. I was only 6 years old in 1986, and all I wanted to be was a teenager. I tried the best I could to wear Fazz makeup and Gitano clothes, but I was just too young. My wish is to travel back in time and be a teenager in the 80's.
