Forgiven

Ok, this is MY TAKE on the song. I may get in trouble if i misinterpret.. I am not putting words in Alanis' mouth.. I am just stating what I get from the song hehe.. just to cover my ass. Anyways, I think Alanis is basically stating and showing how much of a sham organized religion is to her. How impersonal it is to have someone TELL you what to beleive. Religion should be a personal thing. You should be able to believe in whatever you want and not have someone preaching to you about what you should think about God or even how you should live your life "no fun with no guilt feelings". The threat of going to hell if you don't follow what "they" say is bullshit and I agree. Alanis goes on to talk about how some people need something to cling to and that's why they choose church and organized religion. To me that's the only explanation as well. Alanis personally reveals that she rejected what she learned in church, but now she "beleives again". I think she believes now in a higher power by her own personal right and didn't have her "mind made up for her" in what she believes in. To some this may be offensive but personally I think that's the best choice. I mean why should we have to PAY for salvation?... hmmm
