33 2003 Rock Singles (so far)

Yah, I know I haven't done one of these in ages, since I took a hiatus from any mainstream music....but there actually seems to be an abundance of good rock tracks out right now. Here are a few that have caught my attention so far this year in somewhat of an order that I like them at the moment. I've caught these on MTV2, mostly on Subterranean, as well as Launch on Yahoo (if you haven't checked that out, DO IT!!).

  • Longwave - "Wake me when it's over" got the cd....yaaaay, more dreamy Brit inspired stuff!!
  • Interpol - "Obstacle 1" cd; I overplayed this song on my own last year, but it's nice to see the video
  • Kenna - "Freetime"
  • Raveonettes - "That Great Love Sound" saw live & got the cd & got them to sign it!
  • Radiohead - "There There" cool video!! let's hope I can catch em live this time without them selling out :-P I'll prolly get this cd soon
  • Pacifier - "Bullitproof" cool new Aussie band... good cd too
  • White Stripes - "7 Nation Army" ok, this song got way overplayed, but it's good anyway
  • Pete Yorn - "Come Back Home" he rawks!! & he has good taste in music :-)
  • Chemical Brothers - "The Golden Path" this sounds like it belongs in the mid 80's....which of course is a good thing!
  • Dandy Warhols - "You Were the Last High" ahhh, also reminiscent of the 80's :-)
  • Evanescence - "Bring Me To Life" cd
  • Coldplay - "Scientist" cd
  • Killing Joke - "Seeing Red" saw live... if you haven't heard this song (& most of you have prolly never even heard them before), HEAR IT NOW!!

The Grammy Nominations came out recently, & though I prolly won't bother watching it, here are some of my picks that will most likely not get chosen:

  • Record of the Year: Coldplay - "Clocks" (of course!!)
  • Album of the Year: Evanescence - Fallen; or The White Stripes - Elephant (2nd choice)
  • Song of the Year: NONE
  • Best New Artist: Evanescence (yah, I know they're overplayed now, but that was the best nominee they had... & Fountains of Wayne aren't even new!!)
  • Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: Dido - "White Flag" or Sarah McLachlan - "Fallen"
  • Best Male Pop Vocal Performance: Sting - "Send Your Love" (even though I haven't heard it yet, lol)
  • Best Pop Vocal Album: Annie Lennox (haven't heard that either!)
  • Best Dance Recording: Groove Armada - "Easy"
  • Best Female Rock Vocal Performance: there's USUALLY something to pick here, but this time, NONE
  • Best Male Rock Vocal Performance: David Bowie - "New Killer Star"
  • Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group: Foo Fighters - "Times Like These", Radiohead - "There There", or The White Stripes - "Seven Nation Army" (I don't care which one, lol)
  • Best Hard Rock Performance: I really don't care, they all pretty good; Audioslave "Like a Stone", Evanescence "Bring Me To Life", Godsmack "Straight Out of Line", Jane's Addiction "Just Because", & Queens of the Stone Age "Go with the flow"
  • Best Metal Performance: these all sucked... they should've thrown Killing Joke in here
  • Best Rock Song: "Bring me to life" or "Seven Nation Army" (2nd choice again)
  • Best Rock Album: Audioslave, Evanescence - Fallen; only 2 I've heard of the nominees
  • Best Alternative Music Album: Radiohead - Hail to the Thief or The White Stripes - Elephant; either one will get it, I don't care
