SABRINA SALERNO SINGLE RELEASES: GRINGO |
Italian 'Gringo' 12" single |
'Gringo' (1989) was in many ways the official successor to 1988's 'My Chico'. Again written by Sabrina herself and Elvio Moratto, the song followed the format of 'My Chico' quite, but not too, closely. What sets it apart from it's predecessor is the bizarre 'western'-theme Sabrina chose for the song itself as well as for it's presentation in TV-shows and packaging. Outside Italy, 'Gringo' was licensed to the huge international BMG record-company, which made sure the song was released in a many countries and formats. |

In Italy, the song was released by Videogram in two formats, a standard 12" and a 12"-picture disc which used the same design as the standard 12", basically. Although branded as a limited edition, this picture-disc is by far Sabrina's most easily found. Outside Italy, all countries used the same (but different to the Italian) design for their picture-sleeves. As by now outside Italy CDsingles had become a common format, international 'Gringo' CDsingles are quite common. |

German 'Gringo' 3" CD single |
But although most releases of 'Gringo' are fairly easily obtainable, there is at least one rarity as well: In Germany, record-companies were experimenting with the 3" CD single as a new format in 1988/89, and so BMG chose to release 'Gringo' in this format, too. As the 3"-format didn't take off in Germany (and was discontinued in 1989/90), most German 3" CDs are very rare - and so is the 3" CD single of 'Gringo'. Apart from being rare, it's the only CD to feature the 'Newage Mix' of the song in full length. |
