Obviously if you've checked out any of the rest of my site, you should be able to pick up on the fact that Ghostbusters happens to be my all-time favorite movie. With that stated, take into consideration that my review of this movie will be biased. Imagine yourself alone in your house on a cold, stormy autum night. The lights go out and your certain that you've locked every door in the house, yet you start hearing a faint thumping noise coming from the upstairs. It gets louder and louder. The wind starts howling and lightning cracks. The door behind you swings open and then shuts just as abruptly. Whaaam! Now who you gonna call?

(Everyone in unison) GHOSTBUSTERS

This 1984 classic brings together the best commedians of their time, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harlod Ramis, and team them up with director Ivan Reitman. Three college scientists get kicked out of the department and decide to go into business for themselves. The business, paranormal investigation and elimination. In short, they catch the ghost that won't stay dead. With business picking up, a new danger looms on the horizon. A Sumerian demi-god choses New York City to return and bring about the END OF THE WORLD. Can the boys gray save the world, or will we be known as the civilization that got brought down by an over one hundred foot marshmallow man?

This DVD is LOADED. Being released in 1999, it had more to offer than almost every other single disc DVD of that time. (Still today, 2002, few come close.) Considering this film was made in '84, they did a marvoulus job cleaning up and remastering the film. It looks better than recent films on DVD. The extras include a full film running 3D commentary (ala MST3K style), trivia production notes during the film, deleted scenes (from a 15 yr old movie *when DVD was produced in '99), featurets, production photos and drawings, special effect sequences, DVD-Rom material, and more. All of this on top of a really, really funny movie.

Overall, I give this a 10 out of 10, and will probably use it as a comparison to all of my other DVD's.

An interesting bit of info. The famous green class 5 free roaming vapor from the first movie was reffered to as Onionhead, due to its foul odor. Due to the editing of the film, this was played down. Later when Ghostbusters came out as a cartoon, The Real Ghostbusters featured a similar ghost named Slimer. Following that in Ghostbusters 2, a much fatter and bigger looking class 5 is actually credited as Slimer. Now I would like to present a theory. These are two different ghosts. My main reason to argue this stems out of the fact that the mass marketing of Slimer, and frankly I wish they didn't. So why are they different? The ghost from the first film is never reffered to as Slimer until after release and mainly by fans. The cartoon Slimer and the GBII Slimer were both called Slimer. There is an obvious that they are different sizes and look different. Just like how dogs can be the same breed and look similar, so can ghosts. I know the people involved later call the onionhead Slimer, but I will not accept that they are the same unless they explain, in film, how a ghost, who is already dead, gain weight? To me, they will always be two seperate ghosts.
