BIOGRAFIA.
Las Temper Tantrums [Rabietas Mal Genio] son una banda Punk sólo de muchachas de Bellingham, WA [EUA]. Ellas han estado tocando durante 2 años y medio.

Nuestra historia empieza hace 3 años en un día primaveral cuando Effie (bajista) y Leanne (guitarrista) se conocieron. Ellas se volvieron buenas amigas e hicieron planes para ser compañeras de habitación durante el año escolar siguiente. (Ambas estaban asistiendo a la WWU en Bellingham, WA).

Una vez que el nuevo año escolar empezó, Effie y Leanne estaban sentadas en su apartamento, ¡Cuando Leanne tuvo una idea excelente! Fue entonces y allí que Effie y Leanne decidieron formar una banda Punk sólo de muchachas.

Ahora, a esas alturas, ¡Ni Effie ni Leanne habían tomado un instrumento! ¡Ellas decidieron empezar a buscar una baterista en seguida! Uno de los x-novios de Effie nos dijo sobre una de sus x-novias que era baterista ... ¡Y así es cómo encontramos a Melissa! Cuando conocimos a Melissa estábamos muy entusiasmadas, ¡Porque ella en realidad sabía cómo tocar su instrumento! Empezamos a practicar algunos días a la semana y poco después de eso, ¡Melissa también se instaló con nosotras! Ese año fue muy divertido y todas nos hicimos muy buenas amigas. Esa amistad realmente es lo que nos ha hecho la banda que somos hoy.

Somos una banda Cristiana y como banda Cristiana, una de nuestras metas es mostrar a la gente que puedes divertirte sirviendo a Dios, ¡Y que puedes ser un Punk y amar a Dios también!

Nuestra segunda meta como banda es lisa y llanamente divertirnos... ¡Y eso es lo que hacemos mejor!

BIOGRAPHY.
The Temper Tantrums are an all-girl punk band from Bellingham, WA. They have been playing for 2 and a half years

Our story begins about 3 years ago on a spring day when Effie (bassist) and Leanne (guitarist) first met. They became good friends and made plans to be roomates for the following school year. (They were both attending WWU in Bellingham, WA).

Once the new school year started, Effie and Leanne were sitting around their apartment when Leanne had an excellent idea! It was then and there that Effie and Leanne decided to form an all-girl punk band.

Now, at this point, neither Effie or Leanne had picked up an instrument! They decided to begin looking for a drummer right away! One of Effie's x-boyfriends told us about one of his x-girlfrieds who was a drummer...and that's how we found Melissa! When we met Melissa we were really excited because she ***actully*** knew how to play her instrument! We started practicing a few days a week and soon after that Melissa moved in with us too! That year was really fun and we all became really good friends. That friendship is really what has made us the band we are today.

We are a Christian band and as a Christian band, one of our goals is to show people that you can have fun serving God and that you can be a punk and love God too!

Our second goal as a band is to just plain have fun...and that's what we do best!

Leanne Tantrum plays guitar, sings lead vocals. Other talents include jumping around on stage and doing scissor kicks.

Melissa Tantrum plays drums, yells from the back- ground. She entertains the crowd with her amazing facial expressions.

Effie Tantrum plays bass, sings back-up vocals. She also like to dance around but often gets tangled up in her bass cord.

PG: Hello girls; Thank you for doing this interview.
What type of music do you play?
Tantrum: Old school power punk.

PG: ¿Por qué el nombre The Temper Tantrums?
Tantrum: Nosotras conocimos un grupo de tipos que vivían todos en una casa llamada "The North Pole" y solíamos practicar en su casa, porque algunos de los tipos estaban en una banda llamada The Thriftshop Junkies, así que ellos tenían equipo de banda cuando nosotras no teníamos. Bueno, nosotras estábamos intentando proponer un nombre y decidimos tener un concurso en la casa. ¡Quienquiera que propusiera el nombre más original conseguiría una cena gratis de nosotras! PG: Why the name The Temper Tantrums?
Tantrum:We knew a bunch of guys who all lived in a house called "The North Pole" and we used to practice at their house because some of the guys were in a band called The Thriftshop Junkies, so they had band equipment when we didn't. Anyway, we were trying to come up with a name and decided to have a contest at the house. Whoever could come up with the coolest name would get a free dinner on us! Anyway, Tim from the Thriftshop Junkies came up with The Temper Tantrums and we all agreed it was a good name for us. Not that we throw temper tantrums but we all work with little kids and somehow we thought it fit.

PG: ¿De qué bandas reconocen influencias musicales?
Tantrum: Realmente no sonamos como nadie más pero algunas de nuestras influencias de antes fueron Los Huntingtons, Los Ramones, y Screaching Weasel.

PG: From which bands do you recognize some musical influences?
Tantrum: We don't really sound like anyone but some of our influences back in the day were The Huntingtons, The Ramones, and Screaching Weasel.

PG: ¿Cómo fueron sus inicios? ¿En qué lugares comenzaron sus presentaciones?
Tantrum: Empezamos la banda antes que supiéramos tocar nuestros instrumentos (salvo Melissa) así que tocamos principalmente espectáculos menores al principio, luego empezamos a tocar en algunos sitios mayores como Club Impact en Tacoma, WA, The Ballard Firehouse en Seattle, WA, y el LCCC en Lakewood, Wa. De allí empezamos a tener presentaciones en Oregón, WA, y también en Canadá.

PG: How were your beginnings? In which places did you start performing?
Tantrum: We started the band before we knew how to play our instruments (except for Melissa) so we mostly played house shows at first, then we started playing at some venues such as Club Impact in Tacoma, WA; The Ballard Firehouse in Seattle, WA; and the LCCC in Lakewood, Wa. From there we started getting shows in Oregon, WA, and also in Canada as well.

PG: ¿Con qué bandas importantes han compartido el escenario?
Tantrum: The Huntingtons, The Deadlines, Sick of Change, Noggin Toboggan, y muchos más.

PG: Which major bands have you've shared the stage with?
Tantrum: The Huntingtons, The Deadlines, Sick of Change, Noggin Toboggan, and many more.

PG: ¿Cómo se gestó su llegada al sello Bettie Rocket?
Tantrum: Uno de sus tipos de RRPP nos vio en Tomfest 2000 y llevó nuestro CD a Bettie Rocket. De allí ellos empezaron a hablar con nosotras, y empezamos a tener importantes discusiones como banda por aproximadamente 6-8 meses antes que firmáramos el contrato.

PG: How did you get signed to the Bettie Rocket label?
Tantrum: One of their PR guys saw us at Tomfest 2000 and brought our CD back to Bettie Rocket. From there they started talking with us, and we began major discussions as a band for about 6-8 months before we signed the contract.

PG: Háblennos de su producción Throw A Fit!
Tantrum: Realmente se trata de pasarla bien y amar a Dios. Definitivamente hemos mejorado desde nuestros días de los comienzos como banda. Muchas de las canciones se tratan de problemas que los chicos enfrentas todos los días. También tenemos algunas canciones de alabanza, ¡aunque son rápidas y punky! Nuestro álbum es muy rápido y la gente se sorprende mucho cuando nos escuchan por primera vez. La única otra banda sobresaliente de muchachas allá afuera con quienes compararnos son las Halo Friendlies, así que a veces pienso que la gente espera oír algo como lo de ellas, así que está bien.

PG: Talk to us about your release Throw A Fit!
Tantrum: It's really about having fun and loving God. We've definitely improved since our beginning days as a band. A lot of the songs are about issues that kids deal with day in and day out. We also have a few praise songs as well, although they're fast and punky! Our album is really fast and people are really surprised when they listen to us for the first time. The only other major girl band out there to compare us to is the Halo Friendlies, so sometimes I think people expect to hear something along those lines, so it's cool.

PG: ¿Por qué la portada no tiene el típico logo "PARENTAL ADVISORY - EXPLICIT LYRICS" [Advertencia Letras Groseras] de otras bandas en el estilo musical?
Tantrum: Porque nosotras somos un banda Cristiana y nuestras letras son muy limpias. No tenemos nada de palabras obscenas o algo parecido. La peor cosa que decimos es "los muchachos son tontos, los muchachos son estúpidos" :) Siempre tenemos que explicar sobre qué trata esa canción realmente, porque nosotras estamos lo más lejano de una banda que odie a los hombres de lo que pudieras estar. La canción realmente es sólo sobre esos ciertos tipos que no saben cómo respetar a una muchacha.

PG: Why doesn't the cover have the typical "PARENTAL ADVISORY - EXPLICIT LYRICS" logo of other bands in the musical style?
Tantrum: Because we are a Christian band and our lyrics are really clean. We have no swear words or anything like that. The worst thing we say is "boys are stupid, boys are dumb" :) We always have to explain what that song is really about because we are the farthest thing from a guy hating band as you could get. The song's really just about those certain guys who don't know how to respect a girl.

PG: ¿De qué hablan las líricas de las canciones?
Tantrum: Muchachos, amor, Dios, amigos, y la aleatoriedad divertida.

PG: What do your song lyrics talk about?
Tantrum: Boys, love, God, friends, and fun randomness.

PG: ¿Quién compone las líricas? ¿Cómo hacen la música y los arreglos?
Tantrum: Bien, en gran parte, Leanne escribe las letras pero Melissa ha escrito letras para algunas de las canciones también. A veces, Leanne deduce la parte de la guitarra por adelantado y a veces nosotras constituimos una canción en el momento. Cada miembro de la banda deduce lo que tocarán para la canción y nos damos retroalimentación y consejos unas a otras.

PG: Who writes the lyrics? How do you do the music and the arrangements?
Tantrum: Well, for the most part, Leanne writes the lyrics but Melissa has written lyrics for some of the songs as well. Sometimes, Leanne figures out the guitar part ahead of time and sometimes we make up a song on the spot. Each band member figures out what they will play for the song and we give each other feedback and input.

PG: ¿Tienen planeada alguna gira para promocionar el álbum?
Tantrum: Fuimos en una corta gira el verano pasado pero tuvimos que ir sin Melissa y tuvimos un baterista de gira que era hombre, así que fue un poco extraño. Actualmente estamos planeando una mini-gira de invierno y estaremos recorriendo todo el próximo verano también. Esperamos lanzar un NUEVO álbum al final del próximo verano.

PG: Have you planned some touring to promote the album?
Tantrum: We went on a short tour last summer but we had to go without Melissa and had a tour drummer who happened to be a guy so it was a little strange. We are currently planning a mini-winter tour and will be touring all of next summer as well. We hope to release a NEW album at the end of next summer.

PG: ¿Tienen algún video clip rotando en TV?
Tantrum: Tocamos en un espectáculo en Portland que ellos transmitieron en la estación de televisión local. Muchas veces ni siquiera sabemos sobre eso hasta que tenemos noticias de otras personas, ¡así que es muy cómico!

PG: Do you have any video clips rotating on TV?
Tantrum: We played a show in Portland that they aired on the local television station. Lots of times we don't even know about it until we hear from other people so it's really funny!

PG: ¿Lo de una banda sólo de mujeres es alguna regla auto impuesta o aceptarían hombres en la banda en alguna circunstancia especial?
Tantrum: Bien, de hecho tuvimos que ir de gira con un tipo este verano pero nunca aceptaríamos permanentemente a un hombre en la banda. Realmente no es una regla auto impuesta, pero ya que nos contrataron como una banda sólo de muchachas y somos publicitadas como una banda sólo de muchachas, eso es lo que la gente espera ver cuando vienen a un espectáculo.

PG: Is the idea of an all-girl punk band some kind of self imposed rule, or would you accept men in the band in some special circumstance?
Tantrum: Well, we did have to tour with a guy this summer but we would never accept a guy permanently in the band. It's not really a self imposed rule but since we were signed as an all girl band and marketed as an all girl band, that's what people expect to see when they come to a show.

PG: ¿Existen otras bandas punk sólo de mujeres?
Tantrum: ¡Oh, si! Hay montones. No hay muchas bandas Cristianas punk de muchachas en absoluto. Nosotras somos la única banda Cristiana punk sólo de muchachas que ha firmado por un sello excepto las Halo Friendlies que son [estilo] más alternativo.

PG: Are there any other all-girl punk bands?
Tantrum: Oh, yeah! There's lots. There aren't many Christian girl punk bands at all. We are the only all girl Christian punk band that is signed to a label except the Halo Friendlies which are more alternative.

PG: ¿Es divertido servir a Dios? ¿Dios no te prohibe todo lo divertido?
Tantrum: Sí, es magnífico servir a Dios. Si nosotras no creyéramos en Dios y viviéramos para servirlo, nada tendría sentido. Nosotras no sentimos que nuestra fe nos prohiba en absoluto. Nosotras lo pasamos TAAAAN bien. Dios es quien nos ha dado la habilidad y las oportunidades de incluso hacer esto. A ninguna de nosotras le gusta beber o fumar o algo así ... nosotras sabemos divertirnos sin eso. Sólo te perjudica al final. Leanne creció con un papá alcohólico/drogo, así que ella aprendió de primera mano qué tan no "divertidas" pueden ser todas esas cosas.

PG: Is it fun to serve God? Doesn't God prohibit you from having a good time?
Tantrum: Yes, it's awesome to serve God. If we didn't believe in God and live to serve him there would be no point in anything. We don't feel that our faith prohibits us at all. We have SOOOO much fun. God's the one who has given us the ability and the opportunities to even do this. None of us like to drink or smoke or anything ... we know how to have fun without it. It only screws you up in the end. Leanne grew up with an alcoholic/drugee dad so she learned firsthand just how not "fun" all of those things can be.

PG: ¿Son buenas ustedes en el skateboard?
Tantrum: ¡No realmente pero nos gusta aparentar! Somos buenas en desplazarnos por ahí en nuestras tablas, pero en lo que respecta a trucos vistosos, no somos muy buenas.

PG: Are you good with the skateboard?
Tantrum: Not really but we like to pretend! We're good at cruisin' around on our boards but as far as cool tricks go, we're not very good.

PG: ¿Cómo puede un punk amar a Dios? ¿Qué pasa con la anarquía y todo eso?
Tantrum: De la misma manera en que cualquiera puede -- Nosotras igual estamos por luchar con todo por aquello en lo que creemos, es sólo una actitud diferente. El verdadero significado de ser un punk es creer en algo con tanta pasión, que se deja ver en tu estilo de vida/música, y esta idea se aplica a nosotras amando a Dios y también tocando para Dios.

PG: How can a punk love God? What about the anarchy and all that stuff?
Tantrum: The same way anyone can -- We still are all about fighting for what we believe in, it is just a different mindset. The true meaning of being a punk is believing in something with so much passion that it is shown in your lifestyle/music, and this idea applies to us loving God and playing for God as well.

PG: ¿Que opinan ustedes respecto del sexo y el consumo de alcohol y drogas?
Tantrum: Nosotras pensamos que es muy importante esperar hasta matrimonio para tener sexo, por muchas razones. Uno, el riesgo de enfermedad; Dos, las cicatrices emocionales o la tensión que vienen con él; Y tres, no es el plan de Dios para nosotras fuera del matrimonio. Él lo creó, y Él lo bendice cuando nosotras esperamos. En cuanto a las drogas y el alcohol, como indicamos antes, ellos sólo abren la puerta al desastre. PG: What do you have to say regarding sex, drugs and alcohol?
Tantrum: We think it is very important to wait until marriage to have sex, for many reasons. One, the risk of disease; Two, the emotional scarring or stress that comes with it; And three, it is not God's plan for us outside marriage. He did create it, and He blesses it when we wait. As far as drugs and alcohol, as we stated earlier, they only open the door for disaster. Not everyone becomes an addict, but why take the chance when life is so precious and short? There are so many ways to have true fun and meaning in life.

PG: ¿Qué tienen de especial los punks cristianos de EUA? ¿Se diferencian en algo del resto de los cristianos?
Tantrum: Nop, somos todos iguales ante los ojos de Dios y Él nos ama a todos por igual.

PG: Is there anything special about Christian punks in the USA? Are you somehow different of the rest of Christians?
Tantrum: Nope, we are all just equal in God's eyes and He loves us all the same.

PG: ¿Critican ustedes la música pop cristiana?
Tantrum: No, nosotras también lo apoyamos si está glorificando a Dios. El Punk no es la única manera de alcanzar a la gente, y hay tantos tipos diferentes de personas que necesitan ser alcanzados con el amor de Dios.

PG: Do you criticize the Christian pop music?
Tantrum: No, we just support it if it is glorifying to God. Punk is not the only way to reach people, and there are so many different types of people that need to be reached with God's love.

PG: ¿Cómo es la competencia entre las bandas cristianas?
Tantrum: De seguro muchas bandas tienen su punto de vista al respecto, pero nosotras no sentimos que deba ser una competencia si de verdad estás tocando para servir a Dios.

PG: How is the competition among Christian bands?
Tantrum: I am sure a lot of bands have their views on this, but we don't feel like it should be a competition if you are truly playing to serve God.

PG: ¿Cómo es su relación con la escena del mercado general [secular]?
Tantrum: Hemos tocado en bares y hemos recibido mucho de buena retroalimentación del mercado secular. A la gente le gusta generalmente porque es nuevo, y saben que somos genuinas en lo que creemos. Ellos no son condenatorios o enjuiciadores hacia nosotras mayormente, lo cual es rico.

PG: How is your relationship with the scene of the [secular] general market?
Tantrum: We have played at bars and get a lot of good feedback from the secular market. People generally like it because it is new, and they know we are genuine in what we believe. They are not condemning or judgmental towards us for the most part, which is cool.

PG: ¿Qué proyectos tienen a futuro?
Tantrum: Giras y hacer más CDs.....

PG: What are your future projects?
Tantrum: Tours and making more CDs.....

PG: ¿Han planeado hacer presentaciones algún día en América Latina?
Tantrum: No oficialmente, pero sí queremos ¡¡totalmente!! ¡Sería tremendo!

PG: Have you planned to make performances in Latin America some day?
Tantrum: Not officially, but we totally want to!! It would rock!

PG: ¿Seria posible que en su próxima producción incluyeran temas cantados en Español?
Tantrum: Estamos divididas en esta pregunta así que no podemos dar a una respuesta apropiada, ya que debemos ser unánimes. Disculpa.

PG: Would it be possible for you to include some tunes sang in Spanish in your next project?
Tantrum: We are divided on this question so we cannot give an appropriate answer, as we must be unanimous. Sorry.

PG: ¿Qué mensaje o saludo pueden enviar a los punks de America Latina?
Tantrum: Lo mismo que diríamos a los punks de EUA: ¡¡Sigan rockeando y alaben al Señor!!

PG: What message or greeting could you send to Latin American punks?
Tantrum: Same as what we would say to USA punks: Rock on and praise the Lord!!

PG: ¿Cuándo vendrán a Chile?
