Activity 1.3
Characteristic Of Organisation
Size can determine the characteristic of an organisation. Size of an organisation can be split into three. Small organisations (usually owned by individuals or family), medium organisations (supply a more diverse range of products and services than small organisations) , and large organisations (number of people employed are usually large).
Type of ownership are also important. There are two types : government & semi government, and non government. Non government can be divided into 3 : single owner (owned by one person), proprietary limited (owned by one person or a small family trust), and non profit (involved in delivering some social service).
Most of organisation achieve their goal by the effort of their employees. To control the operation of employees, organisations tend to establish structures that enable all units of their workforce to function cooperatively by using organisational chart, or pyramid organisational structure.
