After Operation Ivy broke up Tim was having a tough time. He and Matt started lots of bands, such as Dance Hall Chrahers, Downfall, etc. None of them lasted more than two or three shows. Because of this Tim started drinking. Once his big brother Jeff found Tim totally drunk. Jeff drove him to the hospital, there a doctor told Jeff that he had 40% alcohol in his blood. The doctor also said that people usually die with 38%. Tim didn't even have a place to live. He ended up at the Salvation Army Center. There he got a bed to sleep in and a job. He later rote the song "Salvation" about this. Soon Freeman stepped in and helped Tim with his drinkin' problem. They started the band Rancid and the end of 1991. Later drummer Bret Reed joined, and they got singed by Lookout, from the band Smog.
