Our Pet
Destined for fame was the little girl born on 15 November, 1932. Her crystal-clear voice made her famous all over the world, and her nice girl image made her well-loved by all. Now, at age 67, she has performed hundreds of songs in five different languages
which she can speak like a native, appeared in over 32 films, including Goodbye, Mr. Chips with Peter O'Toole and Finian's Rainbow with Fred Astaire, and countless West End and Broadway productions, including the longest run ever  as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard.
This woman who has captured our hearts was born in Surrey, England, 15 November 1932. Petula Sally Olwen Clark was the daughter of two nurses; Corporal Leslie Norman Clark and Doris Phillips. She has a younger sister named Barbara.
Petula's career started when she was nine years old, performing for the soldiars when World War II broke out in England. She performed in over 500 troop concerts during the war and was at the victory celebration at Trafalgar Square. From there she went onto pictures, so far making over 32, mostly musicals.
In 1959, Pet went to Paris to make a record and fell madly in love with Vogue Records PR man, Claude Wolff. They were married in June 1960 and soon became the proud parents of a baby girl, Barbara Michelle Wolff. In 1961, Catherine Nathalie Wolff was born. Then came the song that Pet is
still best remembered for. Downtown was written by Tony Hatch, and was originally meant
the Drifters. Pet heard it and talked him into giving it to her. Good job he did too, because it skyrocketed to number one, knocking the Beatles flat, and making her an international star. Around the world, people adore Pet's crystal-clear voice, and for many of them, Downtown was the song they were listening to when they first fell in love with her.
The team of Clark and Hatch didn't sit still and bask in
Downtown's success. Instead, they released hit after hit. Everywhere Pet performed, she recieved standing ovations!
In 1972, Pet and Claude had their third child, a son who they named Patrick. Pet continued to perform and cut records. She also did televison specials, which were very well-received. In the eighties and nineties, Pet has starred in West End and Broadway musicals, as well as released some wonderful albums. She recently finished a tour with Sunset Boulevard, in which she played the lead, Norma Desmond. She's also done The Sound of Music, Blood Brothers, and Someone Like You.
