I Belong            All Poems by Al Smith

When I've had too much to drink, and I feel a little pink
And I wonder if I should be here
If I feel a little lazy, and my mind is slightly hazy
I've got a little time to think.

I think about tomorrow, while I'm livin here today
And I wish I didn't feel so blue
But my memory is fadin, I'm tryin to think of, hey when
I might find somebody new

While the dawn is breakin', and the siren's howlin,
The next door neighbours' dog is growlin
I start to wonder where I went wrong
But still, I know, that I belong

The Bushman

The quiet fella from out the bush, who couldn’t care about the push
Couldn’t care about the shove, he’s in the bush, it’s in his blood.
Remembering is all he needs,of idle streams, and bullrush reeds,
And king brown snakes, and hopping frogs, and kookaburras, and old blue dogs.

He's got the bush inside his mind, it's there to stay, throughout his time,
It's firmly there, implanted strong,the bush,to him's,his favourite song.
The bush has made him hard it seems, like the sunshine, as it beams,
Like river  rocks, and hollow logs, and like old blue, his old blue dog.

And blue don’t care, he does his bit, he’s fourteen now and full of grit,
Still keeping guard and watchin’ out, for any movement, there's about.
And blue's a dog who don’t say much, he’s got a quiet country touch
His bite is far worse than his bark, especially if it’s after dark.

And if you come round after dark, old blue will spot you, that's a fact,
Afore ya know it, he’ll have you, bailed up, an' feelin' blue.
Yeah, if you come onto my site, remember blue, his bark, an' bite
To bale you up, his nature be, and to the end, watch over me

The quiet fella from the bush who's had his share of shove and push
He's got his dog blue, and the bush.

 Confidence

I might mess around, I might fool around
I might get dressed, and go to town
Maybe there's some habits for you and me
Maybe that’s just how we're meant to be

If you think you've got somethin' to say
If you think there is a better way
And if you  believe in Murphys Law
You might think that life is just a bore

Lots of things around to get me high
Lots of  things around to help me by
I don’t need your love right now baby
I've got my own love to set me free

Red and pink and sky blue chevrolets
If you think a dream could come your way
Take the  chevy  to, the milky  way
If you think you've got somethin' to say

Cream and Peaches

You’ve met a pretty lady, and you take her out to tea
And you're wondering if, this is the girl  for me
As you drink the cool wine, and things are going fine
You're wondering what, the next moves gonna be

And then you find composure, and leave through the front door
And ask her if, she'd like to see you more
She says you'd like my mother, and I'd like to see you more
You could be a friend, who's welcome at our door.

It's not all cream and peaches, that I'm lookin' for,
A friend indeed,  who could ask for much more.

Earth Shuffle

Think I’ll take my horse down by a stream
Maybe take a long walk in a dream
Maybe hang a glider, in the sky
Or just  watch a river, roll on by

I could drink the ocean high and dry
I could chase an eagle, across the sky
But then I woke to what I'd found
I had my feet flat on the ground

As I ride my horse across a wave
He’s so daring, he’s so brave
I’m proud of him, my horse Hugh
There’s no wave he’ll back down to

Woke up on an island far away
Climbing mountains, breaks of day
Cut  myself  and  see my blood
Mother nature oi, you’re the buzz

For Your Romance

You said we had a good time
And you said that we had fun
And you said I made you laugh, for a while

And I thought I made you happy
I thought I made you smile
I though we had a good time, for a while.

And I thought we could be happy
For ever and a day
Yes I thought we could be happy, to stay

I guess I never took it
Even though I had the chance
But I had too much respect, for your romance

Inner Self

If you've got a feelin, If you give a care
If you've got somebody, somebody who will share
Got my bag and ticket, to who knows where
And I know that one day, I'll be goin' there

If you need somebody, you can rest assured
Somebody will find you,  you can take my word
Gotta keep on searchin', search your inner self
One day you will find it, find your inner wealth

Love Is

Love is a picture, love is a scene, love can be nice, or love can be mean
Love is a child tender and young, Love is a  web, freshly spun.

Love is a mountain, Love is a stream, Love is the dews' sparkle and gleam
Love is a pony, a plant in a pot, Love is  somethin' I know you got

Love is the ocean, love is the birds, love is a meanin', love is a word
Love is a friendship, love is a girl,  Love's  the solution for your world

Out Tonight

The sky is cryin, and the sun’s overheatin
And my best friends misses is gettin’ a beatin,
an it makes me ill and it makes me chuck
but  I can’t help her, it’s just her bad luck.

The grass is green and the sky is blue
an acca dacca’s singin’ who made who
an’  I got this record I’m tryin’ to sell
the  boys an me, an I just yell.

And I can’t tell ya, who made who.
there’s  a stack of stuff and it’s all new
man  I only, wish I knew
who  made who

And times in a bottle, and love’s on a vine
Think  I’ll  pick em both up and call them mine
With  love  in a bottle and the cork on tight
gonna try and get it out tonight.

Today

Some people got legs but, they can’t walk
Some got a mouth but it can’t talk
Some got eyes, but they can’t see
Does it matter to you, 'cause it don't to me

Some people I know are over sixty-five
Me I’m lucky to be alive
Some people struggle to survive
But if we help them, they’ll get by

If I had no legs, and I couldn’t talk
Was over sixty five and I couldn’t see
If I had every, disability
No brains to think wouldn't bother me

You Can Tell Me.

And you can tell me if you don’t wanna know me
And you can tell me if you don’t want me there
You can tell me if you don’t want to see me
And I’ll quickly disappear.

And you can tell me if you don’t feel like me
And can tell me that it can’t be true
And you can bluff and you can try and hide it
But baby I know you.

And you can tell me if you don’t wanna do it
You can tell me that it’s just not on
You can tell me that you don’t wanna see me
And baby I’ll be gone.

And you can tell me when you’ve had enough of me
You can tell me when you’ve had your fill
And you can tell me not to get excited
And to shut up and be still.
