Chapter 2

"Hello! Welcome and thanks for coming to see us play tonight! We're going to start off with a classic song that's one of my favorites!," Paul said to the crowd.
"One, two, three, four," yelled John and the band started to play Like Dreamers Do.
'What truth to these words,' thought Paul. Too bad I haven't met the girl in my dream!'
As Paul sang, a couple dancing caught his eye.
'That's the girl! The girl in my dream! Who's she dancing with? I have to talk to her!,' Paul thought as he sang.
As the song finished, John quipped into the mike, "That's the first time Paulie boy here sang that song with such a feeling!"
Laughter went through the audience and Paul turned a deep red. 'I can't believe this! Was it that noticeable?,' Paul thought to himself as he followed the girl to her table with his eyes. 'I have to talk to her!'
Paul's thoughts were interupted as John said, "And for our next number...."

"Thanks for the dance, Thomas!," I said with a smile. "You're a great dancer."
"And you're great looking, Martha," he replied looking serious.
"Thomas. I told you that I wasn't going to go out with you, so please, let's not get into it."
"Martha....," Thomas started, but suddenly (and thankfully) my friend appeared.
"Come on, Martha! Lets go get a closer look at the band!," Janet yelled over the din of music and the occasional scream.
"Let's go!," I said eagerly, but maybe too eagerly.....
As I approached the stage, I noticed the bass player (Paul was it?) looking at me funny, but I disregarded it as being silly of me to think that. I was just seeing things. A sharp nudge pulled me out of my daze.
"Martha! I think Paul's got his eye on you!," Janet said with a look of envy.
"Janet, I think we should go closer to the front. I'd like to meet this Paul."
"She's coming over here...."
"What's that, Paul?" John asked.
"Oh, nothing. Just muttering to myself," Paul said embarrased by his quiet outburst.
'She's coming over here! What am I going to do?!,' Paul thought. 'Maybe I'm still dreaming. She can't be this beautiful. That only happens in dreams. I wonder what her name could be.....'
"PAUL!," John hissed. "PAUL! We're done! It's our break!"
"Right!," Paul said and started to put his guitar away for awhile. As he closed his guitar case and looked up, she was gone!
'Gone! Like a dream....' Paul thought closing his eyes.
"Martha! Martha! I'm sorry! Martha!," Paul overheard on the other side of the room. He glanced over to see a man close to tears apologizing to his "dream" girl.
'So her name is Martha....' Paul thought. "Hey, John! Lend me a pen!," he shouted to John.
"Here you go lad," John said as he threw it at Paul. "Don't lose it this time!"
Paul hardly heard what John had said as he grabbed a pen and started to write: "Martha my dear....."
"God! I can't believe he followed us! And he was literally crying for forgiveness from you!," Janet said excitedly.
"Yeah, but I wish he hadn't have done that! It was nothing to cry over. AND I didn't get to talk to that bass player.... Oh, well! Maybe I wasn't supposed to meet him. You know. Like fate?," I said quietly.
"Hmmmmmmm... Never would have figured you for someone who believed in fate, Martha! You seem so down to earth!"
"Everyone's allowed to be out of it once and a while and I don't know about you, but I am dead tired. I think I'll be heading home."
I glanced at my watch and a gave a small groan. "I have to rn to catch the last bus! I'll see you in class!"
I ran down to the bus stop to see non other than the bass player! Next thing I heard was his rich voice say, "Hello, Martha."
