Bring Your Pick, Bring Your Shovel, Head On Down To The Amish Rumble...
Hailing from Burnaby B.C., Canada, Devin Townsend created Strapping Young Lad as a way to release his anger. Devin describes the name as "Three words that worked together", so there you have it. England's Century Media asked him about a doing a couple albums, and Devin agreed. (Century Media is home of bands such as Iced Earth, Nevermore, Stuck Mojo, and many others.)
Devin recorded the first album, "Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing" in 1995. The lineup includes;
Devin Townsend - Producer, Vocals, Bass, Guitar
Adrian White - Drums
Jed Simon - Second Guitar on Critic and Skin Me
Chris Bayes - Drums on Critic and The Filler - Sweet City Jesus
Chris Meyers - Additional Key's on Goat and Skin Me
Greg Price - Assistant Drum Prog. on Drizzlehell and Skin Me
And so it was done. Strapping released their first album, toured the lands, and came back to B.C. to start recording for "City", which was released in 1997. On "City", Devin recruited some new faces, including drum guru Gene Hoglan.
