Hanrahan: It's one of the hottest singing groups: The Backstreet Boys, and you might be wondering what the boys are really like Abrams: Well Rob, Michelle Charlesworth spent the day with one of them, and she's here to tell us all about it. Charlesworth: How cool is this? The Backstreet Boys! Abrams & Hanrahan: Cool. Charlesworth: Unbelievable, I'm loving it. When Nick Carter played a concert in Minneapolis the other night, and then flew into the city with his mom the next morning, he invited us to tour around town with him in his limo. We Cheerfully accepted. Charlesworth: This is Nick. Just a normal 18 year old who travels with his mom and checks his luggage just like you and I. And even carries them. Carter: "Hello, I'm Nick. It's a pleasure to meet you." Charlesworth: The blonde Backstreet Boy flew into LaGuardia, and he stopped for only three autographs on the way to his limo, despite the fact he's one of the biggest teen heartthrobs in the world. Charlesworth: Nick's been with the Backstreet Boys for six years. Two years ago they were playing to sold out crowds in Europe, but when they would fly back home, nobody had even heard of them. Carter: "We, we had a name for it. We'd call this No Fan Land." Charlesworth: "This was No Fan Land?" Carter: "This was No Fan Land, but that's kinda changed now." Charlesworth: No Kidding! Check out the reception they got when they were here at WABC a few months ago for a taping of Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. By the way, the boys are in the van. Nick says he's had tons of things thrown at him onstage from Beanie Babies to Underwear, yet somehow he manages to stay grounded. Charlesworth: His favorite store is K-Mart, favorite snack is Taco Bell, he doesn't have a girlfriend, and he promises he's no Romeo. Carter: "I'm not a very romantic person." Charlesworth: "You're not romantic." Carter: "Nah, I have trouble being romantic. I don't know…. Ya know I'd rather just go and hang out at McDonald's or something." Charlesworth: Of course, don't discount the fact that he can always sing. "Lying beside you, here in the dark…. Feeling your heart beat with mine" Charlesworth: His mom Jane who's just wrote a book about him says that he's quickly moving into manhood, but that he's still a little innocent, very respectful, and that she still grounds him on occasion. The last time was just two months ago. Charlesworth: "What did you do?" Jane Carter: "You messed up your room real bad" Charlesworth: " I can't imagine that" Carter: "Nah" Jane Carter: "And he thought it was neat that he got grounded. He knew I still cared." Carter: "No" Charlesworth: Now that he's just bought his first beach house in Tampa, Nick says that will soon change. Source = WABC TV, Channel 7, New York | |||
