So, i come home form school on a monday after vacation, and it been a pretty long day. its about 3:50, so i put my stuff down and turn on the t.v. geraldo rivera is on already so i figure ill wait a few seconds for the tv to warm up before i change the channel and get spoonfed more carefully composed capitalist bullshit. so the tv is warmed up and the show is about people who have altered their bodies somehow through plastic surgery. theres a panel of "cute" looking people, including both men and women, who have had either liposuction or something done on their faces. immediately i was skeptical. surgery is not the way to improve your body image and certainly doesnt improve your health. so then they go on this computer program thats showing some womans legs and butt (from the back), she looks about 40. her legs are almost staight all the way up to the top on the outside. she looks like a 12 year old boy, in my opinion. then they tell you that that's the "after" picture and show you the "before" picture. so the woman has some minor love handles! big fuckin deal! not like she had a health problem or something, its just the way women are supposed to be shaped, y'know, for that thing we call "giving birth"??? hello, if we were all shaped like 12 year old boys, none of us would have enough fat to have a period and there wouldn't be anymore people (which is debatibly a good thing, but thats a completely different subject).
But the next part pissed me off even more. america may have a bad case of fat phobia (go on, say it...."FAT"!!!) but i can't handle people fucking with their faces. everyone is beautiful in his or her own way and none of the people on this show had anything seriously wrong with them (like the guy who used to wear a 34 and got his waist sucked out of him and now wears a 31 really needed that?? whatever.). besides, getting your face changed around isnt the right way to make yourself believe that you, yes you, are beautiful too, even if you dont look like cindy crawford. like anyone actually looks like that anyway. ever heard of an airbrush?? well, im sure cindy has. anyway, so back to geraldo rivera. so theyre showing this girls profile on the computer screen. theres not anything wrong with her. like i said, were not all supermodels with cute little button noses, but this girl did not have a big nose. maybe not a button, but not really big either. then they show the "after" picture. so what, they shaved a little off her nose. i didnt think it was too big in the first place and anyone that does can take it up with me. i dont think i personally have that big of a nose but i guess that plastic surgeon would convince me that i do, and that i should do something about it. hehe. and this plastic surgeon, wow. like he has any authority to tell anyone wether or not theyre beautiful.
so that finally gets me to my point. yes, ok, there are people that really do think theyre ugly and maybe other people agree with them but nobody has any right to make that decision. what standards are we putting ourselves up to? who do we condsider our ideal? its all bullshit because there is no standard. people are people and were all gonna be fuckin different and if you disagree then go throw yourself crying onto hitler's grave. who decides what is beautiful? its certainly what a healthy human looks like cause last time i checked cait moss, ont of the highest paid models in the world doesnt look to healthy. if you want a girl with a body like hers, dont fool yourself guys, you just want a teenage boy. face it, thats what she looks like. so whos standards do you judge people on? think about it for a while. then decide what you think. like i said before, were spood fed all this consumer bullshit, its pretty hard to escape. billboards, tv, magazine adds, even internet banners. so next time you see someone that doesnt fit your standard of the perfect body image or the most beautiful face take a second look and try to think about if your really making the right decision or if maybe you should stop judging people by wether or not they compare to the airbrushed, makeup-caked, gods and goddesses of this modern society.
so thats what i have to say. if you wanna visit geraldo rivera's website, its at www.geraldo.com and if you have anything whatsoever to say to me then please write to me at denyeverything@bigfoot.com
