Is Taylor Fake?

Okay, I am willing to give Tay a chance to prove himself. I have been reading Violet's Magick Saga (on my fictional stories page--everyone go read it) and it makes me feel like being nicer and not so critical. I have just watched Hanson on TGIF and Hanson on Oddville. With TGIF I thought, "Hey, this is pretty cool, and they sound and look pretty good." (I always like things better in a concert setting with a sea of audience members.) I decided Taylor looked more realistic than on the music videos. I was starting to think, "Hey, I really want to go to a Hanson concert!" even though the idea of being among thousands of young screaming girls is a little scary.

Then I saw Hanson on Oddville. I thought it was pretty bad. But I remembered that on A Page Of Honest Opinions On Hanson (on my links page--check it out) they said the Oddville performance was not so good compared to the others. I reread the review, and that performance got an F-. So I want to see some good ones, in order to get a really fair judgement of Tay's "reality," if that's the right word.

I figured I wouldn't feel against Taylor for long. It was a phase. I expected that from myself.

Why do people hate Hanson so much?

Okay, it's time for another theory of mine. I keep seeing the question in my guestbook and other people's guestbooks, "Why, if people hate Hanson so much, do they spend time making web pages about it and writing in guestbooks about it?" I think I have an idea.

If the biggest Hanson fan only said, "I think Hanson's cool," then the biggest Hanson hater would only say, "I don't like them." It would be equal that way. But the more enthusiastic a Hanson lover gets, the more enthusiastic a Hanson hater gets. Lovers say, "They're so cute!" and haters say, "They look like girls!" Lovers say, "I love their music," and haters say, "The music has no meaning! It sucks!" Lovers say, "I think they are cool people!" and haters come back with stories of incest and cowardice. It is just all balancing out.

I think the people who don't like the music have to be enthusiastic about it, for fear that the people who do like Hanson will cause the brothers and bands like them to take over the music industry. And probably there are people who would like that.

Also, to address the ideas that all Hanson haters must be jealous: I don't think so. Surely everyone knows of music they don't like. Does not liking the music mean you are jealous of the person who wrote it? Do you sit around and sigh because you can't write music that you don't like? That wouldn't make any sense. I don't really care for rap. That does not mean that I wish I was a rapper. I have never wished to be a rapper. It would be ridiculous for someone to call me jealous of Snoop Doggy Dog because I don't like his music. So quit with the jealous thing.

Probably some of you are wondering how I feel about Hanson. I call myself a Hanson liker. I have the album, I have some pictures, I'd like to meet them, but I don't go crazy about anything. I don't feel personally offended when others say bad stuff about them. And I don't demand that everyone feel the way I do.

Hanson on the World Series

This was the second TV performance I have seen from Hanson. Overall, it was okay. The song had a sort of hesitant, unpolished sound, probably because it was shoved together a few days before that, or maybe they had not sung it in a while. Anyway, I couldn't hear it well, because one of my younger relatives kept saying, "It's really them! They're really singing! Oh, this is so neat!" and I kept telling her to hush, so it wasn't a good listening experience. But the song sounded good except for the last note. I think someone sang something incorrectly. Ick.

Now about the look of the band as they came out and sang. I know from experience in choirs that there is no good place to put your hands when you are expected to just stand and sing, and this was a problem for the guys. Ike seemed to have decided beforehand to hold his in front, and he looked professional, which worked for the patriotic serious song. Zac seemed to be at a loss about his hands, letting them float oddly, and he also looked nervous. Tay decided to go into his usual jerk-and-writhe movements, which did not fit with the others' stances, nor the song.

I really wish he would get some sort of dance or movement instructor to teach him how to move in a more natural-looking, eye-pleasing way. I find it unpleasant to watch him jerk around like he has severe cramps in his back. I think because he is so thin, what works for other people looks silly for him. Also they say that boys in their teens feel awkward, so this may contribute to the bad dancing stuff.

One thing I noticed about Tay aside from his moving was the smile he gave his brothers when they came on to the field. It was the kind of smile I have seen on fellow singers when we are about to do a really fun song or skit. It is obvious to me that Taylor really loves to perform, and performing for the large crowd in the stadium really made him happy. I like to perform, too, and if you put any trust in astrology, then I am thinking that liking to perform is a trait of a Pisces (which we both are.) Maybe not.
