Welcome Wilshire |
Wilshire is the high-energy pop duo that inspired MWS to start Rocketown Records. Though the self-titled debut of the young husband-and-wife team of Lori and Micah Wilshire is second in the lineup for the label, they are a major reason for its launch.
|
Lori and Micah have more musical experience and maturity than their tender ages would suggest. As veteran Nashville studio singers, their vocals have graced some of your favorite recording projects. Studio work also gave them more than just experience: after meeting at a recording session, they became friends and ultimately partners in music and marriage.
|
Shortly after Lori and Micah's October 1995 wedding, the newlyweds spent an extended "working honeymoon" with Michael on the "I'll Lead You Home" tour backing him on guitars and vocals as part of his band. Fans took to the pair right away, and soon Michael and Rocketown Records president Don Donahue were finding a way to give Wilshire a larger artistic platform.
|
The result was the formation of Rocketown Records. On the heels of the company's successful start with debut artist Chris Rice, Lori and Micah broaden the label's scope with their music and artistry. Wilshire offers a fresh, satisfying mixture of eclectic/electric pop and deeper acoustic stylings. Lori and Micah co-wrote nine of ten cuts - a reflective-yet-fun array of well-crafted songs about unconditional love, the grace of God, and the in-the-world-not-of-it authenticity of the vibrant Christian life.

Smitty manages to start another company... |
Adding yet another layer to Rocketown Entertainment, MWS recently started Rocketown Artist Services, a management division that is currently representing the following artists: Rocketown Records' Chris Rice and Wilshire, Word Records artist Cindy Morgan, and her husband, Word Publishing author Sigmund Brouwer. Cindy and Sigmund are welcome additions to the Rocketown family. All of the artists on the Label/Management rosters have enjoyed getting to know one another this year and at times even had the opportunity to collaborate on each other's work. The synergy that has resulted is what MWS was striving for with the creation of Rocketown Entertainment.
|
In artist and project news... released March 3rd was the debut release from Wilshire. In addition, a new record from Cindy Morgan, The Loving Kind, and two new books from Sigmund Brouwer, The Weeping Chamber and The Carpenter's Club arrived in stores on March 3rd.
|
Cindy's new record, The Loving Kind, includes thirteen songs that present a cohesive and compelling look at different events and aspects of the last week of Christ's life. Sigmund's projects include a novel, The Weeping Chamber - about a man on a journey from desperation to healing during the week of the crucifixion of Christ. A blend of both the record and the novel can be found in The Carpenter's Club - a companion gift book that ties the projects together by weaving Cindy's lyrics among thoughtful essays and vignettes written by Sigmund.
|
In Cindy's own words about the project, she reflects, "Through the years music has been a great expression of emotion for me and this record is dedicated to a story that has impacted me like no other, the last eight days of the life of Jesus Christ. As I traced the footsteps of Jesus, I found a man who reached out to the rejected, the needy, the harlot and the murderer. He was the ultimate humanitarian in the divine perfection, the man of sorrows and the God of joy, whose grace was so vast that it reached beyond the sin to love the sinner."

The first ever Friends award was presented to Michael and Debbie last year at the American Christian Music Awards during Night of Joy in FL.
He was the presenter of the Best Gospel Album (which CeCe Winans won) with Brandy at the Grammys on Wednesday February 28, 1996, and also won a Grammy for Best Pop album for "I'll Lead You Home."
In 1989 he and Michael Guido were headed to the World Series but their plane was late, and on the way to Candlestick Park when they were in a taxi, that the Loma-Prieta (known to the rest of the U.S. as the Oakland quake) earthquake hit. Needless to say he never made it to the game, but they did walk on the empty field when everyone left.
Before every show he likes to eat Pringles because they make his voice crisper.
A THIRD branch of the Christian dance club called Rocketown, located in Brentwood, TN, is opening near Portland Oregon soon. The second branch of this club opened last year in St. Paul, MN
