- Sign from the North Side:
"True Celtic power from the cape of Cornwall"
Thanks to Timo Nieminen for this song.
Arcturus: A black metal band named after the star Arcturus, associated with the constellation Ursa Major ("Great Bear"). What does this have to do with Arthurian legend? The name Arcturus is derived from the Greek word for "Keeper of the Bears". Similarly, the name Arthur can be interpreted to mean either "horrible bear" or "bear-man", and King Arthur has in fact been described in places as "a bear of men" and is linked to the Celtic bear-cults. Furthermore it has been suggested that this constellation, with its circular route, may have led to the notion of the round table.
Avalon: Diverse German progressive/power metal.
Avalon: An Edinburgh-based band playing a vocal and instrumental blend of rock and traditional music drawn from the Celtic and Scottish cultures.
Second Sight (1998)
Avalon: Another band called Avalon, this one is from Ottowa and features Myles Hunter, Manfred Leidecker, Tulio Granata, Robert Holtz and Brian Sim.
Avalon: British RAC (I don't know what RAC stands for, but it could very easily be short for 'racist' as far as I'm concerned. I included it here to make my list more comprehensive, but otherwise I would suggest everyone avoid it.)
Avalon, Jennifer: Actually, I think that’s just her name.
Avalon Rising - The Starlit Jewel: Songs of J.R.R. Tolkien, composed by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Available on cassette or CD from Flowingglass Music, 2821 Truman Ave., Oakland CA 94605.
Avalon String Band: A marching band from Pennsylvania. Hey, why not?
Avalon Swing: A jazz/dance band in California.
Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle(1998): This double CD is a tongue-in-cheek, campy, science-fiction scenario with exaggerated cliche characters. "A deafening thunderclap as time and space collide! Eight human souls (eight different singers), plucked from their eras of Time, suddenly find themselves together in a strange dimension... A mysterious voice directs them through a maze of trails leading into the electric castle. Within the castle they must find the gate back to their own centuries. Will they survive? And who is the voice...?" One of these characters is the chivalrous Knight, who thinks he's in Avalon in search of the Holy Grail. Only those tracks on which he appears are listed here.

The Final Experiment (1995): Ayreon's first album. Actually, 'Ayreon' is the main character in the story told on this concept album. He is a blind minstrel in medieval times, interpreting images sent back from the future, warning humanity against the downfall of earth. The music on this disc ranges from melodic rock to symphonic metal. Variation is the keyword of this disc, expressed in for example the use of both female opera vocals and a male death grunt.

- Ye Courtyard Minstrel Boy: Ayreon is told to sing before the court, and that he "must win the heart of Gwenhwyfar".

Act IV 'Merlin's Will and Ayreon's Fate': The great Merlin has observed Ayreon's endeavors argus-eyed, but now he believes the moment has come for him to intervene.
- Merlin's will: Merlin, who is ignorant of the 'Time Telepathy' experiment, assumes that Ayreon's prophecies are deceptive, and so Ayreon must be silenced.
- The Charm of the Seer: Ayreon realizes that he can neither accomplish his mission, nor stop the visions from penetrating his mind. His sole escape is to submit to the magic charm of Merlin
- Swan Song
- Ayreon's Fate
a) Ayreon's Fate: Ayreon desperately attempts to convince Merlin of his sincerity, but Merlin won't hear of it and casts his spell on poor Ayreon.
b) Merlin's Prophecy: Merlin is stricken with grief for he has had a vision that proves Ayreon to be genuine. Reluctant to pass into eternity as the martyr of mankind, Merlin vows that Ayreon's word will be spread in the 20th century, in the hope that it will not be too late and that man will heed his premonitions.
c) Epilogue
Both Uldis Shens and Glenn contributed this album.

Arthur.
"Listen, crowd/I'll tell you everything/though I have to say/I don't know much/talking about a past/and future secret/Most called him once/and future king/far back in the past/I saw his ending/long before it started/I knew his name/he's the one that took the sword/out of the stone/it's how that ancient tale began/I hear it in the cold winds"
- Mordred's Song: This song, of course, deals with Mordred.

Crosby, Stills, and Nash - Crosby, Stills, and Nash (1969)
Dale, Heather - The Trial of Lancelot (2000): Heather's first CD is a collection of nine original songs based on the Arthurian legends. Some songs are a musical storytelling of these legends, while others explore the emotions of Lancelot, Guinevere and Arthur from a first-person perspective. The music is a mixture of contemporary soft pop and Modern Celtic folk, primarily featuring piano.
- Lily Maid: A version of Tennyson's "The Lady of Shalott", this song is the final letter written by the Lily Maid of Astolat to Sir Lancelot.
- The Trial of Lancelot: Lancelot is put on trial for his treasonous affair with Queen Guinevere, and proudly defends his actions. This song looks at the opinions of Sir Gawain, Sir Kay, Sir Galahad and Sir Tristan. (The album cover art incorporates a modern Welsh translation of Heather's lyrics for this song.)
- Miles to Go: Guinevere bids a sad farewell to Sir Lancelot as she enters a convent after Arthur’s death.
- The Prydwen Sails Again: A lament based on an ancient Welsh legend. King Arthur once heard of a magic Cauldron which could bring the dead to life (some associate this with the Holy Grail), and sailed with his knights to Caer Siddi, the City of the Dead. The battle was furious, and only seven of Arthur's knights returned with him to Britain.
- Mordred’s Lullaby: Morgan La Fay sings a sinister lullaby as she rocks Arthur’s son to sleep.
- Hawthorn Tree: A tale which explores the relationship between Merlin and his student Vivianne. The song title refers to the legend that Vivianne trapped Merlin inside a tree.
- Culhwch and Olwen: A Welsh tale which is considered one of the earliest Arthurian legends. Young Culhwch attempts to win Olwen in marriage and seeks the aid of King Arthur to do so.
- Tarnished Silver: Lancelot bids his final farewell to Guinevere at her deathbed. Inspired by Malory's "La Morte d'Arthur".
- Measure of a Man: After Arthur is slain, his knights honor him as his body sails to the Isle of Avalon.
The Kingsword (1997): Originally titled 'The Trial of Lancelot' it was renamed in 1999 to avoid confusion with her latest work. This is a compilation of original songs based on the Arthurian legends, and includes new versions of four previously released songs.

- The Tourney Field: An instrumental intended to evoke images of a Grand Tournament.
- The Kingsword: King Arthur bore two magical swords during his reign: The Kingsword, which was drawn from the stone, and Excalibur, given to him by the Lady of the Lake. This song looks at the two swords in alternating verses.
- The Prydwen Sails Again: Song from the 'Light of the North' tape with added harmony vocals.
- Tintagel: An instrumental portrait of Tintagel Keep, Arthur's birthplace perched on the wind-swept crags of Cornwall.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (1971)
- Battle of Evermore: "I’m waiting for the angels of Avalon,/Waiting for the eastern glow." This song is actually Tolkien inspired, so I’m not sure why they mention Avalon. You can read an analysis of this song on The Led Zeppelin and JRR Tolkien Relations Page.

Mar, Kathy - My Favorite Sings (1999)
- Merlin: Written by Doug McArthur, sung by Kathy Mar, with arrangement and instrumentation by Kristoph Klover. "[Merlin] comes from the little curlicues and follicles of my brain, by way of CS Lewis and a general urge to revitalize and stir up our interaction with myth. It is the same thing as doing a modern dress Shakespeare or (heaven help us!) a Star Wars retelling. Myth is strong and rock solid. It can stand a broad reinterpretation, and the fact that someone asked about it is the proof that it generates interest..." -- Douglas MacArthur (MP3 and streaming RealAudio sound files available, via MP3.com.)

Jonah’s Ark (1993)
- The Wickedest Man in the World: "All martyrs seek their cross and nails/The rebels grail his cause" Does every song which mentions the grail necessarily belong on this list? In this case ‘grail’ does not refer to the Holy Grail, but rather it is a generic term to mean the goal of a quest.

- The Declaration of Indifference: Here's another one.
"You sought a grail forged of fools gold"
The Wayward Sons of Mother Earth (1991)
