BRC Orchestra performances are well known in New York
City as unique big
band events comprised of some of the world's best
musicians from across
the spectrum of rock, jazz, blues, funk, etc., most often
brought
together for special, one-time only concept performances.
651, An Arts Center, Brooklyn's premiere presenter of
arts rooted in the African Diaspora celebrates
contemporary expressions of Spanish culture with a
month-long festival in June entitled 651's WORLD SERIES:
THE SPANISH
YEAR. The Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, comprising
about 20 artists, will present a high-energy concert of
R&B, Rock and Funk with a latin flavor to illustrate
the Latin influence on popular music. Music from
artists such as Santana, War, Mandrill, Stevie Wonder,
Gil Scott Heron
and Joe Cuba will be among those spotlighted. This is a
show not to be missed!
Led by bandleader Coati Mundi (co-founder of Kid Creole
& The Coconuts), this BRC Orchestra presentation will
feature some amazing and diverse talent, including Vernon
Reid, Nona Hendryx, Sandra St. Victor (Family Stand), Ray
Chew (bandleader for Showtime @ The Apollo), Cory Daye
(Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band), Kevin O'Neal (Bus
Boys), Joe Battan ("Gypsy Woman"), Eddie
Martinez, Carl Hancock Rux and many other great artists!

public seats go on sale Wednesday, May 20th. However,
currently paid-up members of the Black Rock Coalition can
call and order now -- Note: All current BRC members are
eligible to recieve a $4 discount off the price of

present a Max Roach and Abby Lincoln (In Version)
National Black Arts Festival

This project is a "jungleization" of the music
of music pioneers (and husband & wife team) Max Roach
and Abby Lincoln, with music selections coming primarily
from two of his recordings (Abby wrote the lyrics and
supplied the vocals) - "Percussion Bittersweet"
and "It's Time". Greg
Tate will lead the 17 piece big band, which also includes
Vernon Reid, Marque Gilmore and Jason DiMatteo, along
with DJ, David Colin Compton and poet Sharif Simmons. Be
sure to check out this rare opportunity to see a BRC big
band performance outside New York City!

The Black Rock Coalition Orchestra Plays The
Blaxploitation Songbook
Celebrate Brooklyn @ Prospect Park Bandshell
Prospect Park West & 9th Avenue
Brooklyn, New York
The BRC's third and final big band performance of the
summer will
showcase some of the greatest songs from the
Blaxploitation films of the 1970's. Of course, music from
Shaft and Superfly will be presented, as well as songs
from movies such as The Harder They Come, Car Wash, Foxy
Brown, Trouble Man and many others!
The BRC will again feature a steller group of musicians,
led by Orchestra Director Kelvyn Bell, the 20 piece
orchestra will also include an 8 piece
string section and a killer horn section featuring Joe
Bowie (Defunkt)
and Eric Person (Ben Harper). Other special guests will
include Nona Hendryx, Dean Bowman (Screaming Headless
Torsos), Sandra St. Victor and many others to be
announced.
Best of all, admission is FREE (although there is a
suggested $3
