LIGHTNING STRIKES LOU CHRISTIE
Tight pants. High falsetto. He has the surname of a savior,
One didn't have to read tea leaves to predict overwhelming
international
success for "The Gypsy Cried" by Lou Christie (b. Lugee Alfredo
Giovanni
Sacco, Glenwillard, PA, February 19, 1943). With its
attention-getting
intro, wailing falsetto chorus & insistent rocking beat, "The
Gypsy
Cried" became the first in a long
line of
Lou Christie chart smashes.
Lou wrote "The Gypsy Cried" & hundreds of other tunes with
classically
trained pianist Twyla Herbert (b. July 27, 1921). As Lou told
the Press
of Atlantic City, "We usually wrote the title first, then the
hook, then
back to the song. The hardest part was that we had too many
ideas. If
we wanted to write a song, it would never stop."
