He is mentioned in the credits of the record for lending a guitar to Brian Griffiths who at the time was in between guitars. I recently read a few interviews on RoryOn.com wher Rory Gallagher mentions Brian Griffiths as one of his guitar heros. Great site! Very informative!

Lovely site Woderful to read about Lonesome Dave from Savoy Brown Blues Band. I saw them one night at the Leas Cliffe Hall at Folkestone in the late 60s. And I distinctly remember Lonesome Dave keeping to the side of the stage and only taking one (fantastic) solo all evening. Incidentally you could do a nice section built around Venues. We saw some wonderful bands at Leas Cliffe hall and I bet there are people out there who agree with me. First live band I ever saw was John Mayall's Bluebreakers at Tofts Club (again a fantastic little club in Folkestone) with Mick Taylor on guitar. This was one of Mick's last gigs with Mayall, because I think we already knew then that he was off to join t e Stones. I always loved Mayall (then) and to see him live was just the greatest thrill. What I remember more than anything was how LOUD!!! it was. I thought I was going to die. I didn't, although my ears have never been the same since! Perhaps I can sue John and make a fortune... Not much chnace of that ; no one gets any money out of Mayall ... but that's another story! Keep the Faith

Great site! Your site came up in a search result. One of my earliest memories of pop songs was 'It Ain't Necessarily So' but I never knew who sang it. I've been a Moody Blues fan since hearing Nights in White Satin in around '72/73? but I only just fou d out this afternoon that the original lineup of the Moody Blues with Denny Laine as lead vocalist sang 'It Ain't Necessarily So' and what amazed me even more was that it was originally written by George & Ira Gershwin in the 30's! This is a great sight. I visit a lot of different rock sites: UBL, GEPR, All-Music Guide. But for the people you cover...who are closest to my heart anyway...you have the most complete, most accurate...and most caring, information. I found out htat Cozy P well died on this site within a day or two of the accident. And because I read it hear...I felt comforted that...his passing was being treated with the importance and caring that was appropriate to the person who had added so much happiness to my life. I'm a Christian. I saw a Caleb Quaye/Hookfoot concert in Champaign, Illinois (USA) in 1970 or 71. I felt intuitively, at that time, there was something very unique about Caleb, perhaps from how he carried himself. Anyway, I'm pleased to see his life ha changed, and he is now the National Music Minister for the FourSquare Church. Or is there access to any live Keef Hartley or Hemlock that features Miller? I've still never heard the Hemlock album (and I'm sure anxious to). Great site.Full of very interesting information and lots of leads.Being a teenager in the 50's was brought up on rock and roll and rhythm and blues.Heartily agree with your sentiments regarding Peter Green and Uriah Heep. But must admit that my all time f vourite and the greatest rock and roll band of all time was the mark 2 Deep Purple! Just loved it when the angst between Ian and Ritchie drove them to the cutting edge of heavy rock! Even with Steve Morse the band is still making great rock and roll. Carr on with the great work. This is a terrific site!! Just one example of the weatlh of information afforded by the internet. I am 37 years old and began listening to pop records as far back as I can remember, falling asleep as a youngster listening to 'Puff the Magic Dragon' by Peter, Paul and Mary. My musical interests and tastes are basically the same as yours with 'white electric blues' my heart's favorite. This music I believe is the golden age and apex of rock and roll and unfortunately doesn't seem to be one that will re eat itself. I have done a fair amount of research, reading, net surfing, etc. in this area but not nearly as much as yourself most likely. Keep up the great work and continue with your dream of a rock and roll encyclopedia. If I find I know or run acros anything of benefit to your site I will try to bring it to your attention. I don't think my proficiency with computer science is as developed as yours however so my method of communication might be primitive! Keep rockin' in the free world!!

I think you are doing a great job with this site. "If I weren't so lazy" it is something I'd have liked to do. I phoned a local Radio station today (Radio Derby - in the UK) and offered the dj on the 'Soundscapes' programme, Ashley Franklin, my copy of 'C ltic Moon' so that he could play Miller as a follow up to a long feature he did today (01-23-2000) on Jon Lord. He's accepted so 'Celtic Moon'; 'Bright City'; "Knights of the Blues Table' and 'Extremely Live at Birmingham Town Hall' are going to Ashley wi h my recommendations. Ashley is already taken with Miller's voice so there's every chance that some things will be played. I go for great guitarists -- obviously people like Peter Green, Mick Abrahmas, etc. -- but also love good vocalists -- people like Cliff Bennett (both with his own "Rebel Rousers", and later Toe Fat and following bands) Chris Farlowe, Paul Jones, etc. (By the way, I would love to connect with anyone who has live tapes of Cliff Bennett -- whether from the '60s or his more recent appearances in the UK on "oldies" shows.) Van Morrison and all related musicans from Them are another special interest -- with my partner Neal Skok, I created a label (Epilogue Records) just to release a CD by 3 ex-Them members who in 1970 recorded demos in Chicago as "TRUTH" -- they signed with pic and were slated to re-cut this material in London in '71, but changes at CBS nixed the deal and nothing was released UNTIL 1995 when we issued the Truth CD. Copies are available from me for just $15.00, postage to Europe included (wholesale for 4 copi s or more is $9.00 each, plus actual shipping.) The CD has great guitar, songs and vocals! If you read "Ptolemaic Terrascope", you may have seen my interview with Kieran White (the late singer from Steamhammer) in their January '99 issue. I'm working with his daughter Amiran to compile a limited edition CD of his unreleased songs from '76-earl '90s, out in 2000 we hope! I'm also in contact with Martin Pugh, who played lead guitar in Steamhammer and then in Armageddon (with Kieth Relf). Martin lives in California these days, working in carpentry by day and playing straight-forward blues on weekends with a band called "Th Instigators" (they just released a CD which I could get for you if interested.) Unfortunately, his American wife died of cancer earlier this year, leaving him with 2 young children to raise. I've been in touch recently with two members of The Action -- bass player Mike Evans and rhythm guitarist/backing vocalist Alan "Bam" King. As you may know, the band has done a number of "reunion" gigs in the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy and elsewhere on th Continent over the past year, and they hope to release a video and maybe a CD of the best of these shows. (In the meantime, do you know of anyone who has live tapes and would like to trade?) Mike Evans has also found a live reel to reel tape of Mighty aby from 1970, and I put him in contact with Ace/Big Beat Records in the UK regarding a possible CD release of this in 2000 -- I hope it happens! I also recently helped Rockadelic Records (based in Dallas, USA)on a vinyl LP release by "Sleepy John", a band from Idaho who recorded in 1970 but never had anything released then. This may come out on CD in early 2000 on Thomas Hartlage's "Shadoks Music label from Germany. As your website notes, Micky Waller played briefly in Steamhammer -- wish I could provide additional exact details but Kieran's memory was rather vague on "exact details"! He did tell me a bit about the circumstances of how Mick came into the band: The riginal drummer had come up to London from Worthing with Kieran and bass player Steve Davy and cut the first LP but was then deemed too poor in time keeping to retain in the band; Mick was available and joined for several live gigs -- around 3 months -- b t no recordings. Mick was replace by drummer Mick Bradley, who recorded on their 2nd and 3rd LPs before tragically dying of leukemia in '71 or '72. During the same period that Waller was in the band, Pete Sears also played some gigs with Steamhammer -- b t again no recordings. The Steamhammer "second guitarist", Martin Quittenton, ended up recording with Waller on the first Rod Stewart solo LP, including his MQ's song "Maggie May". MQ left Steamhammer not too long after that and played in a few other ban s until the mid'70s, at which point he basically "retired" to his southcoast England home and garden. He has lived on the royalties from that song ever since! I always loved Mick Waller's drum style -- quite distinct on the Jeff Beck "Truth" album. I have one of the Appaloosa label albums he played on -- musically not as good as the Beck stuff, but listenable. I'd love to hear that LP he cut with Tony Ashton nd Davy O'List! How can I get a tape of that? Well, I guess that's enough for now. I always enjoy meeting new musical friends, especially if we can help each other discover new things we may have missed out on... As I have stated I found your site while going through the Jeff Beck websites. So if that tells you anything, the man walks on water as far as I'm concerned. hi miguel, I have just spent a very interesting hour or so checking out your excellent site, a labour of love if ever there was, my friend found a link in the ritchie blackmore site to your cozy powell stuff, what a true star that man was! we had just bee listening to a "connoisseur rock profile" c.d. of ritchie blackmore (vol 2) which has four rainbow tracks with cozy's drumming (still i'm sad, man on the silver mountain, lady of the lake, sixteenth century greensleeves) highly recommended, my attention was caught by an biog entry that said cozy had played with SPIRIT (although a crap line-up, as you acknowledge) so I looked in your guitarists page and there's no entry for RANDY CALIFORNIA !!! another wizard/true star tragically no longer with us, I la t saw him play live (with ED CASSIDY and a very good bass/ backing vocalist whose name escapes me in the spring time of 1995 at the forum venue london, it was magic, when I have some decent input on the subject I will pass it on, until then friend, hasta la vista! baby!

Some great info so far. Read the Andy Pyle pages. I LOVE(D?) these guys. I've FINALLY got three albums on CD. Used to have their first two LPs - the U.S. releases. I had forgotten that the European releases often used to have different tracks. In this case, however, I'm very happy to say I have all the t nes, but in different order. I'll always more than fondly recall the night i saw them, in '69 at NY's Fillmore East, as a 14-year-old punk! I laughed at the name. (A buddy and i had gone to see Johnny Winter). I thought they would "bite major yak for sure.": But was I wrong, wrong, w ong. Imagine: Blodwyn Pig, Chicago Transit Authority and "The Pig," on one bill! For about $8!!!!! As Steely Dan sang, "those days are gone forever, over a long time ago..." Cheers Bro.

Thanks a lot for a thorough an interesting site. I swallow it all up. Regarding Mick Grabham being a member or Bandit I must admit I'm surprised. I've got their LP (Partners in Crime), and on my version Danny McIntosh Jr plays guitar. There's even a picture of him, and he doesn't look the least like Mick Grabham. Nor does h sound like him. So either you're wrong or they made two versions of that LP or....you name it!
