I'm very sad to say that Tommy Eyre died yesterday. My condolences to his family: his lovely wife Scarlet Rivera, his brother Simon Eyre, and all his relatives and friends.
I'm going to make a page including tributes written by his colleagues and musicians friends, so if any of you wants to be included, write me an email message.
URGENT! This message has arrived from Tommy Eyre's brother, Simon Eyre. Read carefully, and if you're able to help, please do it:
With a Little Help From My Friends...
...a Benefit for TOMMY EYRE
Cafe de Paris : Monday, 30 April 2001
3, Coventry Street, London W1
8pm to 3am
For those who don't know who Tommy Eyre is - his keyboard/arranging and producing legacy reads like the Who's Who of Rock, Pop, Blues and Jazz. An original member of Joe Cocker's Grease Band, Tommy has worked with George Harrison, BB King, Gerry Rafferty, George Michael, Ian Gillan, Dusty Springfield, Charles Mingus, Mick Jagger, Gary Moore, Alex Harvey and many, many more.
Since being diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer in 1999, Tommy has waged a battle including life threatening surgery and chemotherapy as well as many hospitalisations. This event is to benefit Tommy and honour his lifetime of work in the Music Business.
WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS is a one off concert being held on 30th April at the Café de Paris, London in aid of Tommy and Scarlet, the proceeds of which are aimed at helping them through whatever lies ahead in the coming months.
The evening already has the support of a World Class Band and the show will be hosted by Shane Richie, with Tee Green, Martin Fry (ABC), and Hamish Stuart (formally Average White Band) all singing, as Tommy contributed so much to the sound of the original Wham! Backing band some of the original members will be performing some of the old hits with Gee Bello (Light of the World). The evening will finish off with DJ's Barry Upton and late night Artful Dodger.
The WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS Band is made up of Tommy's friends, who over the years have played with Tommy with various greats in the music industry (such as George Michael & Wham, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Bryan Adams, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Tom Jones, The Who, Wet, Wet, Wet, Kate Bush and The Squeeze)
