My mIRC Channel, #Come-Chat!
Hey, if you don't have mIRC 5.02 or any other version, you really need to get it. This page is just to inform you of all the cool things I have found on mIRC and about it. Besides the fact you can talk to people long distance without it costing you a fortune, you can also even learn something while having fun! (How much better than that can you get?)
I have mIRC for about 3 months and I am already addicted to it. What can I say besides the fact it is great!? But to get more to the point...mIRC is a chat program better than anything you can find by just searching the web for chat rooms. The rising popularity of it has caused it to become the #1 chat program around. As this page grows, I also hope your interest does.
First of all...I would like to tell you about the version of mIRC that I have. That version is mIRC 5.02 . I prefer that one more than any other one from the more tricks and different things you can do with it. Talk to people in an array of C oLo Rs, make friends, learn about other countries, and even more then that! What I would recommend is you try it for yourself...I bet anything you will get addicted before you know it.
Create your own chat rooms (channels), become channels' operator (ops), be the founder of a channel, kick people, ban people, create a bot to keep your room open while you are gone (most irc servers don't allow this.), choose different topics, and most of all chat! In ths page I will be explaining each one of these things and even giving you a few tricks here and there along the way.
To start with:
I'm not the mIRC expert, but if you have questions about it, mail me and I will e-mail
you a response about it.
Here are a few abbreviations used in mIRC. It took me a while to actually
learn them, so instead of asking..be one of the ones to know!
(That's all I can think of and those are the most used any ways...)
Smileys I made up and I've seen
You can play sounds and play little text files and stuff while you are on mIRC.
People see the text files in the room/channel you put them in and if another person
has the sound, they will hear it if you play it.
You can also DCC chat (Chat privately), or even DCC send
(sending files to each other via the program).
Hey, here's a DCC trick. If you ever want to just tlak to that person without others being around and trying to chat with you...
just disconnect from mIRC without closing the DCC chat and you can still talk to the person DCC without being on irc.
TEXT
You can also type in different colors. The numbers above the keyboard letters are used.
I can't put all the color names up here, there are to many. But you can experiment and find ones you like on your own.
Also, you can bolden things and underline things as well.
OK, now that you have mastered that, try these things:
Trying adding more than one color!
Things you can do to make life better 8)
1. Go up to the menu bar above the icons of mIRC 5.02 . Once there, go to DCC
, then to send. (No you aren't sending anything.) After you have gotten that far and
are in the send area, look for a place that says Packet Size. Under Packet size there should be a number then Bytes.
If the number is lower than 4096, change it to 4096. In order to make the change final, you
will have to send something to someone.
2. While playing a text file, type the text files name then put a 50 after it.
There are 22 icons across the upper part of your screen once in mIRC.
1. This is the connect icon. If you are connected, it is obviously down
since you can't and probably don't want to connect again.
2. This is the disconnect button. It is unuseable if you disconnected
and useable if you are connected for easy disconnect from irc.
3. This is your setup info. You can type in a name for yourself here and pick what server you want to connect to.
(I prefer DALNET servers.) Note: Try to pick a server close to where you live.
4. These are your General Options. If you click on that you can change things about your sound,
Notify list, Irc Switches, Control, URL catcher, Perform, Flood, Clicks, Event Beeps,
Drag-Drop, Logging, Servers, and Extras. Also in this one, you can choose where all your irc files come from and
go to when you send and receive files.
5. This is the Channel Folder icon. Most (if not all) of these rooms
are for mIRC help and if something goes wrong with the server and you don't
and want to know why.
6. This icon is used to list the channels. You can type in a certain type of chat room you want
and type you DON'T want and it will list and not list those ones.
If you don't want any certain channel you don't have to list the ones you want of course.
7. This icon allows you to create aliases and scripts to speed up
your IRC session or to perform repetitive functions more easily.
To create aliases you must know some IRC commands. (See help for more info)
8. This icon allows you to create custom popup menus for the status
window, query/chat windows, channel windows, the channel nickname
listbox, and main menubar. To create these you must know how to use Basic IRC commands, how to create Aliases,
and how to use Identifiers and Variables. (See help for more info)
9. This icon is the remote icon, allowing you to create scripts that react to IRC
Server events, such as when a user joins a channel or sends you
a message. This tool is the most complex part of mIRC. (See help for more info on
it.)
10. This icon let's you finger a certain address. It will tell you about it.
It's hard to really explain, so try it and see...pretty cool I say.
11. This icon is the timer. It allows you to reset irc time and it shows your time online.
12. This is the colors icon. It let's you change the colors of the text you type in or
the color you see for the nicks of people, etc. A lot of color changing. =)
13. This one allows you to send a file DCC (remember that one?) to someone.
It gives you a list of the files and you type their nick in and click the file you wish to send.
14. This one allows you to chat DCC with someone. What this is, is
a private way to chat. It is more secure, and if you get disconnect from IRC you cn still chat
with that person.
15. These are the DCC options you have. You can change your settings of DCC and do the basic options.
16. This is your notify list. If you type: /notify persons_nick (for example: /notify Carrie14)
it will set the computer to notify you in your status screen when that person is on. But if you aren't sure who all is on that you have on notify,
just click that button and it will inform you of who is on.
17. This icon is your URL icon. It shows you a list of URL's you have put in there or mIRC has put in there for your own reference. (mainly being for help if it's from mIRC)
18. This icon will tile your windows open on mIRC. This means that is will make it so they all are next to each other and fill the screen up.
19. This is your cascade icon. It will cascade your windows so you can only see the top one and the names of the others you are in and/or have open at the time.
20. This is your Arrnage icons icon. (Guess what that one does...)
21. This is your help icon. (See the life preserver?) This one will help you when you are absolutely stuck and I don't have it in here. =)
22. This icon (last but not least) tells all the info you want to know and more about mIRC itself. It tells basically everything about the program.
Nickserv, Chanserv, and Memoserv
Yes, I know that it sounds wierd, but I'll explain.
NICKSERV
What NickServ does
For now I will start you out with that. That is basically all you need.
If you want more help, just type:
ChanServ
ChanServ is basically the cahnnel creater of everything. You can use ChanServ to creat a channel,
delete one, give people operator status and so on.
What ChanServ does
MemoServ
What MemoServ does
Meet the ops of the channel!

A lot of places on the web will charge you $20 (U.S.A) for this program. But if you search harder,
there is A LOT of web sites where you can just go and download it for free. I advise you search for it a little bit
and get all the options people pffer for it.
I WOULD have a copy to download for you, though I can't get the server to upload it to this page,
so I am working on changing the file name so this is possible for you all.
1. lol = laugh out loud
2. rofl = rolls on floor laughing
3. btw = by the way
4. bbl = be back later
5. brb = be right back
6. ppl = people
7. nm = nevermind/no matter
8. nite = (of course) night
9. np = no problem
10. kma = kiss my a--
11. roflwt = rolls on floor laughing with tears
12. bb = be back

':) 8| :( ;)-~~~ :)=~~~ ;(~ :)~
(Well, you get the basic point of it. ~__~ )
1. To play a sound you type: /sound filename.wav or .mid
2. To play a text file type: /play filename.txt
1. To DCC chat, go to the files on the top of the screen where you will see little icons.
The 15th icon over is the DCC chat icon. If you push it a little screen will come up
where you type the nick of the person you want to chat with. (If you can't find the icon...
leave your mouse over the icons for a few seconds and it will tell you what they do.)
2. To DCC send, go to the 14th icon and push it. It will give you a list of all the files
you have. You can change directories and send files from different folders to people.
(Again, if you can't find it, leave your mouse over the icons and it will tell you what they do.)
Another one is: I have gone to different servers (other than dalnet), like efnet and so on. And I hate having to ditch everyone I'm chatting with to
just so I can go to a different server. But if you are in DCC chat with someone, you can change servers and still chat, just as long as you
don't exit the chat.
1. To put colors on your page, you need to type: Alt k color_number .
For example: type: Alt k 3 hello there , and you will get: hello there.
Type different numbers instead of 3 and see what colors you can come up with.
2. To make colors more fasionable, you can type: Alt k color_number,color_number .
For example: type: Alt k 3,4 hello there ,and you will get green text with a red background
just around that text.
1. To bolden text, type: Alt b hello there ,and you will get: hello there .
2. To underline text, type Alt u hello there ,and you will get: hello there .
1. Changing text color and bolding. Type: Alt b Alt k color_number .
For example, type: Alt b Alt k 4 hey all! ,and you will get:
hey all!
2. Try changing the text color and having a background with the bold and underline.
Type: Alt k 4,3 Alt u Alt b
For example if you type: Alt k 4,3 Alt u Alt b ,you will get
Underlined text that is bolded, is red
and has a blue background.
From that, you can interchange any of those. Make it bold and colorful, or bold and underlined.
Type: Alt k color_number Alt k color_number
For example, type: Alt k 4 Hi, Alt k 2 everyone! ,and you will get: Hi, everyone!
What this does is, it makes your sending of things faster. It cut a ten minute thing
I was sending down to to 5 minutes.
So, say the file's name is hi.txt , you would type in /play hi.txt 50
This will make the text file play a ton faster.
There are many things you can do while chatting...
You can make things ¡espanol! (spanish) or even dîfƒÉrèñT.
To do these things, you just type Alt then one of then numbers on
your right hand number pad of the keyboard. For example: type, Alt (hold it down) 168 and you will get: ¿
NickServ is basically the nick holder of the users. Using nickserv you can
register you nick so people know not to use it, or even get dramatic and put a kill on your nick
so nobody can use it at all.
1. Allows you to register a nick, but you must use that nick within 22 days or it will be unregistered.
( type: /msg nickserv register pass_word ) You must be using the nick at the time you want to register it.
( /msg nickserv help ) omit the parenthesis.
1. Allows you to make a channel of your own that anyone can come into, unless you don't want them to.
To creat a channel, first type:
( /join #Channel_name ) omit parenthesis
If the channel is not already registered, you can register it.
Type: ( /msg chanserv register #channel_name Pass_word descri_ption )
In the description area, it's just a description of your site.
Type: ( /msg chanserv help ) for more options. Always omit them parenthesis there.
Memoserv is basically the place where you can send memos to other people and read any that you have.
If you have one, it will tell you in your status screen.
1. Memoserv allows you to send memos. To send one just type:
( /msg memoserv send persons_nick Message_to_them ) If you want to experiment with this, just send one to me
and I will reply to your nick if it is registered telling you it worked.
It is named: #Come-Chat! and I am on there at least once a day.
And since this summer ('97), I have been on there every night
at about 10pm-10:30pm in U.S. Central Time. (But during the school year, it will be earlier.)
The operators (ops) of my channel are listed below, and also my friends are. There are quite a few
people who come in there at night, and it can get really fun.
(Even a few arguements between people start up.) But this doesn't happen often.
If you haven't ever come in there, go ahead and come in! If you need mIRC help I will
gladly help you all you need, and even one of my friend is or was an ircop. (Someone who is very
well familier with mIRC. And is a helper.) He will gladly help you as well with anyone else in there.
Even though there is a lot of people in the channel most nights, it doesn't
get hectic so don't worry. It is pretty well controlled. But just for warning,
if you see us kick each other out...ignore it...we play around a lot!
Feel free to come in and get known. We appreciate all new comers.
But we prefer to keep people who aren't into porno, if you prefer that type of chat room, please
find a new one. 8)
I'll be on. If I'm not someone is normally in the channel.
Note: You DO NOT have to have the same version of mIRC or even the same chat program to chat
in my channel. You just have to be on a dalnet server.
These ops are also my friends
