Bruce Dickinson / Albums

TATTOOED MILLIONAIRE
TATTOOED MILLIONAIRE was released
in May 1990 on CD, LP and MC.
This album was recorded when Bruce and
the lads in Iron Maiden had a year off.
1989/90 was a busy time for Bruce with
recording this solo album, starring in a
TV-series and publishing a book. To get
a band together he contacted a friend he
met during his time in Samson, Janick
Gers. Back then was then guitarist with
Ian Gillan who Samson supported on
tour in 1980. Other musicians are Andy
Carr, bassplayer in the band Three Rivers
and drummer Fabio Del Rio who then was
with the band Jagged Edge. The album was
recorded in Battery studios in London and was produced by Chris Tsangrides.
It featured the Mott the Hoople cover All The Young Dudes (also released as
single) which Bruce changed the words for. In the line " My brother's back
at home with the Beatles and the Stones" he exchanged the word "brother" to
"father", since he thought it was such a long time the original words were
written that it fitted better to have his father back at home with the
Beatles and the Stones.
The album, over and all, is a standard Heavy Metal-album anno 1990, and
therefor nothing too exhilarating. Bruce says that when he did this album
he did nothing that he thought would scare people off, it was made "under
the watchful eye of the collective" (i.e. Iron Maiden) and a way for him to
ventilate his workoholism.

It contains following songs: Son Of A Gun, Tattooed Millionaire, Born In '58,
Hell On Wheels, Gypsy Road, Dive! Dive! Dive!, All The Young Dudes, Lickin'
The Gun, Zulu Lulu, No Lies.

This album was the second Bruce
Dickinson work. It was recorded with
the help of TRIBE OF GYPSIES
Roy Z all guitars, Eddie Casillas
bass, Dave Ingraham drums, Doug
Van Booven percussion and two
tribes Mario Aguilar and Dean
Ortega were played on "Shoot
All The Clowns"; drums on
"Tears Of The Dragon" Dickie
Fliszar.
   "Ball To Picasso" was
released on LP, CD, MC through
EMI on June 6.
   It contains following songs:
Cyclops, Hell No, Gods Of War,
1000 Points Of Light, Laughing
In The Hiding Bush, Change Of
Heart, Shoot All The Clowns,
Fire, Sacred Cowboys, Tears Of
The Dragon.

ALIVE IN STUDIO A
"1994 was a pretty mental year for the
band and myself. God knows how many
miles we clocked up tearing around the
planet from Bradford to Hong Kong and Los
Angeles to Tokyo, but it was certainly
worth every dose of jet lag for the live
performances that resulted.
The band that did it is now permanent,
which is one of the main reasons for
releasing this live format. It seemed such a
shame not to have a permanent record of
such a terrific year.
We recorded the last show on the UK tour,
at the Marquee in London. We had also
recorded another gig live in studio A at Metropolis studios in Chiswick. This was for an
abortive U.S. radio session.
Comparing the two is difficult, and they each have their strong points in showcasing
different aspects of the band. No apologies, therefore, for including different versions of the
same song. If you're into the music, you'll love it.
Here's a brief run down of how the band came to be. I found guitarist Alex Dickson first,
having known him for 5 years anyway. Together we toured the world with a couple of
acoustic guitars, doing the groundwork for the gigs that followed. I didn't have a
clue who to get on bass and drums until Myke Gray of the band "Skin" steered me in the
direction of Chris Dale and Alessandro Elena. It was a real pleasure to offer them the job,
and I had secret hopes that we would evolve into a permanent unit.
The final gig of 1994 was in Sarajevo. The route into the city was dangerous and
anyone in the band or crew could have pulled out at any time without fear of any comeback.
No-one did. We all came back feeling a bit different about life, the universe and everything
else. I have never felt such a bond in a band as developed between us in the 4 days we spent
in Bosnia."
                                                                         Bruce Dickinson
                                                                            January 1995

Millionaire, Born In '58, Fire, Change Of Heart, Hell No, Laughing In A Hiding Bush.

SKUNKWORKS
The name Skunkworks comes from the
Lockheed Martin project that built the
U-2 (the aircraft that penetrated the
Iron Curtain), the SR-71 Blackbird,
and the F-117A Stealth Fighter. The
choice came about presumably a result
of Bruce's interest in aircraft. Lockeed
Martin itself got its name from Al
Capp's "Li'l Abner" comic strip which
featured the "Skonk Works", where
Appalachian hillbillies ground up skunks,
old shoes, and other foul-smelling
ingredients to brew fearsome drinks and
other products. This could well be a
description of the latest offering from Skunkworks, the band, which mixes some amazing
guitar work with just the right amount of processing, vocal gymnastics, and features a strong
rhythm section, making for a potent musical brew.
Finding Dickson, according to Bruce, "was like finding a soulmate." All the tracks in the
Skunkwords album were composed solely by the two of them (with exception of Innerspace,
where bassist Chris Dale contributed his talents also). Perhaps the similarity in their last
names has something to do with it. Once they both got together, they soon recruited Dale
and Alessandro Elena (for the drums), and Skunkworks was born.

SKUNKWORKS contains following songs: Space Race, Back From The Edge, Inertia,
Faith, Solar Confinement, Dreamstate, I Will Not Accept The Truth, Inside The
Machine, Headswitch, Meltdown, Octavia, Innerspace, Strange Death In Paradise.

ACCIDENT OF BIRTH
The best album of this year!
Late in 1996, Bruce unexpectedly parted ways with
Skunkworks in order to pursue "heavier material".
He got back together with Roy Z. and the Tribe of
Gypsies (his backing band from Balls to Picasso)
and began writing "more traditional metal".

Soon afterward, Bruce's ex-Iron-Maiden-bandmate
Adrian Smith heard some of the new material and
liked it so much that he wanted to contribute to the
album. Adrian and Bruce co-wrote several songs,
and Bruce was so happy with the result that he
invited Adrian to play guitar on the album and even
go on tour with the band. Although Adrian was committed to his own band, Psycho Motel, he
made time in his schedule to accommodate his old friend. In the end, Adrian wound up
playing on 12 of the 17 recorded tracks (co-writing 3 of them), and he plans on joining
Bruce's band for roughly the first 2 months of their late-spring tour. Accident of Birth was
released on May 12 in Europe and on June 3 in North America.
One final note: the band will be incorporating at least 3 Iron Maiden songs
into their new setlist ("The Prisoner", "2 Minutes to Midnight", and
"Flight of Icarus" have been mentioned). All tour dates you'll find in new official site.

ACCIDENT OF BIRTH contains following songs: Freak, Toltec 7 Arrival, Starchildren,
Taking The Queen, Darkside Of Aquarius, Road To Hell, Man Of Sorrows, Accident Of
Birth, The Magician, Welcome To The Pit, Omega, Arc Of Space. (Ghost Of Cain is a
bonus track on american version)
