TO MY MOIST PAGES TRIBUTE PAGE

Number of people to visit this page since November 15:

Moist is one of my favourite Canadian bands, and one of my fave bands in general, for that matter. This page is in no way designed to eclipse the masterpieces of some hard-core fans out there, but instead to give you my thoughts on the band and a little bit of info, but mostly to pay tribute to the real Moist masterpieces out there.

Originally from Vancouver, now based in Montreal, Moist has released two albums, Silver and Creature, plus an independant self-titled release. Creature is my favourite Moist album, and my favourite songs off of it are Leave it Alone and Resurrection. Their songs are powerful and emotional, and it is obvious to anyone who listenes to them how much talent the band members have.

Creature was released last year here in Canada but only recently in the United States, under the Arista label. Last winter when I was in Florida I played a couple of songs off of Creature for my friend and she was so impressed she asked me to tape the album for her and send it to her. I did this, and she said all her friends liked it so much that she wore out the tape. She waited impatiently for the CD to come out in the States, and when it did, she said she bought the first copy from the store.

Silver is also a great album. My favourite songs off of it are the title track and Believe Me. However, it is obvious that they matured a lot in both sound and lyrics between albums. Creature is a musical masterpiece without a single weak song on it. In short, anyone who has not yet discovered Moist doesn't know what they are missing.

I finally saw Moist perform live at EDGEFEST 98, after a series of near misses, and they are incredible in concert. Aside from living here (I keep hoping to run into them in the street or something- yeah right!) they performed at Place Des Arts last December 1, as part of the Gasoline strings tour... right before my first semester CEGEP finals. Before that, they did a free concert as part of Molson Rockfest in June 97... right in the middle of final exams. Before that, they performed at the Verdun Auditorium with I Mother Earth in January 97... the day before my physics mid-term. Boo hoo.

Moist headlined EDGEFEST 98, a big Canadian music festival, on along with the Tea Party, Foo Fighters, Econoline Crush, Green Day, Creed, The Watchmen, and tons of other bands. They were GREAT!!! Amazing doesn't even begin to describe it. They closed the show here in Montreal, after the rain stopped, and they played all the great songs.

If you can, catch Moist later this summer as they accompany Our Lady Peace and a host of other bands on Summersault 98. For more info, check out the Summersault website.

David Usher has put out a solo CD, "Little Songs". No, he didn't quit the band, this was sort of a side project for him. The first single, Forest Fire, has been getting a lot of radio airplay. To be completely honest, however, I'm not all that thrilled with it. I think the stuff he did with the band is better. However, it seems to be doing well.

Want to sing along to their songs? (a great way to annoy younger siblings!) Go here for the lyrics to their albums.
