PAAAAAAAARTY!
Take That are too busy to come to Britain to promote their number one hit single Back for Good, so they invited lots of people out to Germany to see them instead. FF's Al was among those who went to watch a show and then party the night away!
Thursday 10 pm
After fighting our way through the hoards of girls on guard outside Take That's hotel we popped into the restaurant for a quick coffee before bed and who did we bump into - Robbie, Gary and Howard. "Actually we nearly didn't get here," explained Gary. "A blizzard hit Munich just as we were landing which was really horrible and bumpy, then we just got through to the hotel before they closed all the roads into Munich." Phew, well I was certainly glad they made it!!
Friday 1 pm
We were whisked off to a private theatre to hear the first ever play of the new album, Nobody Else - which is totally fantastic! It's very funky and a bit more grown up than the previous two albums, but still has that unmistakable TT feel to it. It's going to be huuuuuuuge!
Friday 2 pm
It was then time to put some questions to the boys along with other journalists from all over the world. They were in typical playful form with Robbie, being the cheeky chappy he is, whispering messages into the tape machines that had been left on the table by him. Unfortunately mine was at the other end of the table - boo hoo!
The biggest surprise on the album was that Robbie doesn't sing any lead vocals. "I've been concentrating more on the writing side of things this time round," he explains, whereas Jason who doesn't have his own song either says it's simply because he's not as good a singer as the others! Aaaaaaah, well we heard him sing his Beatles song and thought he sounded lovely!
The cover of the album features the famous Take That dolls which all the band love! "We decided to use the dolls which are so sad they're funny" laughs Gary, "and all the items on the cover are things we've collected over the last five years. It'll be nice for us to be able to look at all our personal things to remind us of home when we're away!"
Friday 8 pm - Take That Live in Munich!
Having already seen the show in England, it now felt very strange being surrounded by thousands of hysterical German fans, and goodness didn't they go completely and utterly wild! The thing that stood out the most was the cigarette lighters. Every time Take That played one of their slower songs, the whole arena was lit up by cigarette lighters, fluorescent wands and sparklers all swaying in time. It was wild!
Friday 11 pm
And then the real fun began! Everyone was then taken to a private club for an aftershow party and a bit of a dance with the boys!
Take That arrived about an hour after everyone else and it was obvious they were in the mood to paaaaaarrtyyyyy!
As soon as they arrived Robbie headed straight for the turntables and booked himself a turn as DJ for later. Mark was wandering around the whole evening taking Polaroids of everybody, and Gary, Howard and Jason couldn't stop chatting!! Just before the club chucked everybody out it was time for the five lads to jump on the bar for some raunchy dance moves - what a treat!!
Friday - very, very late!
After bundling everybody back to the hotel it was down to Gary to persuade the sleepy bar-staff to open up the bar again so we could get down to even more dancing!
Robbie nipped up to his room to grab his ghetto blaster and dance CDs, Jason found himself a nice comfy sofa to slob out on, he'd exhausted himself with his dancing on stage, poor love. While we could hardly keep Mark and Gary off the dance floor!
To say it was the party of the year is probably a bit of an understatement and it certainly looked like Take That enjoyed it just as much as everybody else! It's nice to know that they're still the same party lads as ever! Good on ya guys!!
