Hi fellow CJ fans. I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've been a fan for years. It started slowly by listening to some of their tunes on the radio (Come Calling, Common Disaster) to collecting albums and really getting into their less commercial stuff.
re there any other Junkies fans in and around Vancouver? I would like to hear from you. Also, I have 2 tickets to the concert at the Commodore on June 14, and (as yet) no date. Any lady CJ fans who would like to hook-up for the show should e-mail me qu
ck before I pick one of my non-fan friends!

I was turned on to the Cowboy Junkies about a year and a half ago and fell in love with their music. Margo's voice is awesome. I saw them last year at Meadowbrook Theater (in Micigan). It was a great concert ( but they didn't play Crescent Moon :-( )
I'm hoping they will come to michigan more often and hopefully play Pine Knob. I've turned alot of people on to their music. I sing some of thier songs in kareoke, ie, Crescent Moon and Hard to Explaine, and have gotten a great response. I can't wait for
their next release. I'm really glad I found this page. Thanks Jillian

MY LAST 5 POSTS ARE PROBABLY BEST READ IN REVERSE ORDER FOR THE CORRECT SEQUENCE. The Horseshoe. I was happy to get a ticket to this very small show, but I wasn't looking forward to it as a listening experience. The band made their rock 'n'roll side well
known by opening with a blistering I Saw Your Shoes. It actually kept the crowd from talking long enough to let them get away with playing the quieter Good Friday.Unfortunantly, the audience was very talkative the whole night, and it was often difficult to h
ar Margo when she was just talking or telling stories. They did quiet down for Misguided Angel in it's newest version with only Margo,Karin,Jeff and Michael playing.I guess that was the one song everyone came to hear, because the constant conversations pick
d up as soon as it was over. The band seemed to be having a good time (which was their objective for playing there anyway) but many in the audience seemed annoyed with the crowd noise level.Following is a set list from Brampton. After that set I've included
only the songs that were different from Brampton from each night. I had to skip the Windsor show, so I have no report on that one.
Brampton,Ont. 11-26-99: Good Friday, Black Eyed Man, Sun Comes Up, Small Swift Birds, Beneath The Gate, Townes' Blues, 200 More Miles, 1000 Year Prayer, Bread & Wine, 5 Room Love Story, I Saw Your Shoes, Misguided, Anniversary Song, Sweet Jane, Cheap Is
How I Feel, Miles From Our Home, Blue Guitar.
From Guelph: If you Gotta Go, Go Now, Bea's Song
From St. Catherines: Powderfinger, Southern Rain
From Toronto: A Few Simple Words
12/02/99 22:42:16
Comments:
Next I went to St. Catherine's for my third show in 3 nights! The set started off much differently, with only Margo,Michael and Jeff taking the stage. They opened with a real nice Powderfinger, followed by Southern Rain with the full band. Both songs had no
yet been played the previous nights.Another great theatre with an attentive, quiet audience, same as the 2 earlier shows.Sweet Jane featured an extended instrumental intro,as Margo left the stage briefly and the band just jammed. They kept the intro the ne
t night also. This was probably my second favorite show, with Brampton being #1.
12/02/99 22:42:01
Comments:
After a beautiful drive from Brampton, I arrived in Guelph. I really enjoyed this city;a lot of neat shops and restaurants. The site of the show was the River Run Center,a very modern 3 year old theatre. It was designed like an old time opera house, except
with all modern facilities and superb sound. The band played a set pretty similar in song list to the night before. The biggest difference was the improvement in the new songs. The band just roared into Small Swift Birds like it was an old standard instead
f a new-born song. All the other new ones began to gel a little more than the night before as well.Simon Keeper got pre-empted by Cindy reminding the band that they were playing on the banks of the Speed River,so they made an impromptu set change and perfo
med Bea's Song. Or at least attempted to.Margo forgot the words and tried to get the band to stop, but they kept playing and she got most of the rest of them. A fun moment for the audience, but maybe not for Margo. She said that's why they don't usually play
requests that they haven't practiced.
12/02/99 21:34:40

Where to begin? I waited for this week so long, and it went by so quickly! The first night of the tour was in Brampton,a suburb of Toronto. The venue was the Heritage Theatre,a nice old venue with good acoustics, that unfortunantly will be torn down soon. The
band played a strong set, featuring 6 new songs! The first new song "Small Swift Birds",is an uptempo number, similar in feel to Miles From Our Home. This became the initial favorite for me of the new ones.It was followed by "Beneath The Gate",a slower, more l
id back tune. The third new one was the band's millenium song "1000 Year Prayer",another slow, pretty one and Margo's favorite of the new songs. This was followed by "Bread and Wine",a real rocker, a little like Southern Rain. The last 2 new ones were saved f
r encores."Simon Keeper was he first one, another slow, languid song that fits the band perfectly. It seems to be the favorite with those of us doing multiple shows on the tour. They ended with "Dark Hole",a song different from much of what they've done bef
re. The band lays down a funky/slinky groove for awhile before Margo starts singing. It then gradually builds to a climax in a way similar to Lost My Driving Wheel. It works really well as a closing number.Other highlights included the return of Black Eyed
Man and 200 More Miles to the set. A personal highlight was listening to Margo recall meeting me and using the story as an intro for 200 More Miles.

Time for me to offer up another show report! Last night I was at the CNE in Toronto under a perfect summer sky with a very attentive audience to witness yet another show by Our Favorite Band. The band seemed very relaxed and comfortable, probably from being
at home, and played a solid set. Margo seemed to keep her stories to a minimum (unfortunantly)and the music was focused throughout.Highlights included a very uptempo "Few Simple Words" with Jeff getting MVP status for his mandolin work on this one. Margo m
ntioned that it was their Mom's birthday that day (Sept 1),but the band hadn't gotten her anything,so she received the "Cheap Is How I Feel" dedication.(Wouldn't mind that gift myself). A mid-set "Highway Kind" was the absolute high point for me. I seem t
be able to better focus on this song when it's not an encore, and this version was certainly worthy of my full attention. This was followed by a rockin',playful "I Saw Your Shoes" with a very sultry performance from Margo. This made a great 2 song sequence
Next up was "Misguided Angel",with only Margo,Michael,Jeff & Karin.Beautiful harmonies on this one.(Karin was looking exceptionally beautiful last night as well as singing that way).Hope the band will tell me what all those video cameras were doing at th
s show! I couldn't think of a better way to end my summer concert series. Now I'm looking forward to that Thanksgiving run of shows!
SET LIST: Good Friday, Southern Rain, A Few Simple Words, Cheap Is How I Feel, Sun Comes Up..., 5 Room Love Story, Highway King, I Saw Your Shoes, Misguided Angel, River Waltz, Sweet Jane (same hybrid of mellow & rock 'n' roll versions as they've been doi
g lately), Miles From Our Home, To Live Is To Fly. Encore: Blue Guitar, If You Gotta Go, Go Now.

I have been an avid devotee of this band for 10 years. I've seen them 5 times, mostly in the Boston area. There is no other band that I've seen (besides Neil Young & Crazy Horse)that can completely captivate an audience and leave them speechless and bre
thless as do the Junkies. If anyone has info about a live concert captured on video, I would definitly be interested.

I will never forget the last song played by just
Michael and Margo at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston
on 4/4/92. The tune was Winter's Song and the
performance sent chills up my spine, each time I hear that song the memory of that performance is
renewed.A fan for ever.

I finally got myself a copy of the "Songs From Maiden's Mill" cd and just had to let everyone know that it's a really worthwhile disc to add to your collection. The versions here are VERY different from the released versions. Good Friday is probably even
etter than the "Miles" version, definitely a much more relaxed production style (or lack thereof).Margo's vocal on The End Of The Rainbow doesn't come close to the "perfect" version on "Miles",but there's a whole lot more of Michael's guitar on this one.
ew Dawn Coming also benefits from the "sparse treatment". If you're a hardcore fan,do yourself a favor and locate one for yourself!

Dear Cowboy Junkies:
We are sitting in an internet cafe and are connecting to your site so we can be on your mailing list. We had the great pleasure of being a part of your concert at the Vogue in July of 1999. It is the first time we have seen you in person though we do hav
4 of your CDs. We loved you and will certainly be out to hear you the next time you come to Vancouver. In the mean time take care and may there be many unexpected gifts (still to come)for you all along lifes path. Hopefully not anymore underwear on your

Hello Maurizio and Everybody,
I have just gotten done moving from an apartment to a house. I was just going through a huge pile of junk when I came across the copy of the set-list from the 5/19/92 here in Eugene that I wrote down and have kept all of this time. Please transfer
his over to the appropriate page with the show listings for all to see in the future. I will probably throw out this piece of paper right after I get done reporting this to you all.
The set-list for this show with John Prine was as follows: A Horse in the Country,Oregon Hill, 'Cause Cheap Is How I Feel,200 More Miles,Townes' Blues,This Street,That Man This Life,Leaving Home,Black Eyed Man,Lost My Driving Wheel,Sun Comes Up,It's
Tuesday Morning,Misguided Angel,If You Were The Woman and I Was The Man(with John Prine),Murder,Tonight,In The Trailer Park,The Last Spike,Sweet Jane. During Prine's set, Margo came out and sang "Angel From Montgomery" with John.
Thanks,

The Junkies were in FINE form last night at the Winspear Concert Hall for the Jazz Festival in Edmonton. They played the same set as described by Bob's entry on June 27/99 except they replaced "Leaving Normal" with "Good Friday". The sound was very good
although Margo's voice tended to get buried in the mix often. Audience, venue, and musicians were in synch and Margo was great fun, often kidding about playing at a Jazz Festival and being without a record label (now I'm completely convinced that the st
te of music and the music industry is critical). Big disappointments? Well, there are two actually. Nothing was played from the sublime "Pale Sun" album and the fact that the band "forgot to bring copies of their new CD from Toronto" (I was counting on
buying a couple of copies at the concert). "There are some things that can't be forgiven"....okay, I'll forgive them just this once. What a great band! I'm tempted to drive 300 kilometres to see them again. (Although I realize I've got a ways to go bef
re I catch up with Bob....)

It's time once again for me to do another show report. Last night I went to the Tralf in Buffalo,NY for my 10th Junkies show in less than a year.It was also one of my very favorite ones. The band (including Karin & Linford from Over The Rhine) was in fine
form, and concentrated on songs from the new Rarities CD.They finally played all the weird stuff I've been pestering them for all these years! Great venue, attentive crowd and excellent sound added up for an incredible night. I had too many favorite moment
to list them all here, but the best ones were Michael singing co-lead vocals with Margo on Those Final Feet, finally getting to hear Leaving Normal again live, and just getting to hear so many songs that I hadn't heard live before at all. Just when I think
'm done touring, Michael clued me in to another couple shows that haven't yet been announced.I'm ready - I'd be only too happy to attend more shows of the quality presented last night! Set List: Southern Rain, 'Cause Cheap Is How I Feel, Sun Comes Up...,
Few Simple Words, A Common Disaster, Hold On To Me, 5 Room Love Story, Leaving Normal, I Saw Your Shoes, Misguided Angel (Margo,Michael,Jeff & Karin only - very stripped down - great!) River Waltz (Margo,Michael & Jeff), Sweet Jane (includng "rock n roll
band" verse, but more laid-back than before), Mles From Our Home, Blue Moon, To Live Is To Fly. Encore: Those Final Feet, Blue Guitar, If You Gotta Go,Go Now.

I also just got my B-sides disc. In addition to the unreleased tracks that I expected, The band was kind enough to use *alternate versions* of 3 of the rarities that I already had on rare cd's.
Those tracks are: "Sad To See The Season Go","Leaving Normal" & "The Water Is Wide". Leaving Normal is one of my favorite CJ tracks anyway, and I was really surprised to hear a different version than the one I was used to. It makes this disc an extra unexp

never in my life has one's music touched my heart strings so deeply. I wake up with their songs in my head and I fall asleep dreaming to them. I finally saw them perform last August. I actually cried when they took the stage. Margo was as beautiful in per
on as she sounds. And I loved how they started the show with slow, peaceful songs and then built up the speed and energy of the show as the night went on. (Note: Some fans sent Margo some flowers to the venue prior to the show and she was So pleased. Just
a thought to anyone seening any upcoming shows.)After I left there I went walking down a chilly San Francisco street to my car singing "Cause Cheap Is How I Feel" at the top of my lungs. I think I probably scared a few people. Oh well. They should check o
t CJ and then I am sure they would sing aloud too! I thank God for the day I first bought "Caution Horses". I never would have imagined how much my life, love and happiness would change. I think I'm going to go listen to "Studio" now. Bye.

Hello to my fellow Junkie fans! I must admit that I felt extremely envious from reading comments of those that have experienced a full Junkies concert. I saw them perform about seven songs in front of an indifferent Lilith Fair audience last summer. AL
THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT! The Junkies have been booked at the new city concert hall for the local Jazz Festival for June 30. Apparently, they are interested in moving toward this genre, which makes perfect sense considering they have explored (but
definitely NOT flogged to death) blues, country, rock and pop. Can't Wait! Still looking for "Dead Flowers" and "Captain Kidd"...any idea where I might find these? Bye for now!!

Jere- Concerning your camera question...
Most venues have a no camera policy, but since the Cowboy Junkies have a meet and greet after the show, I would bring my camera, and carry it in discreetly. If venue manangement has a problem with it, ask (hell, insist) them to call the Cowboy Junkies to
r manaagement over, and explain to them that it is for *after* the show only, and that you promise not to use it *during* the show. I've found that CJ tour management is usually pretty cool about this. Word to the wise though, be discreet about it, and y
u should be OK. Hope this helps

Hello All! I thought I'd share a little about the Peterborough,Ontario show I saw last weekend. The Showplace is a venue well worth the 4 hour drive I had. Very modern, with a lobby/art gallery leading into the theatre, which had perfect sound.Best of all,
it seated only 626 people! The Canadian audience was well-behaved (as I've come to expect) and truly was there to listen to the music. Margo seemed very happy and was smiling throughout the show. This may only be my perception, but it seemed like Michael w
s a little distracted during the first half of the show. I thought they really came together during the 2 songs that Margo & Michael did alone, and maintained that cohesion for the balance of the show.A standout was "Townes' Blues",which really swings in i
's current arrangement. This was the 9th show I'd been to on the "Miles From Our Home" tour, and Margo seemed surprised to see me yet another time,as well as at this distance. The good news was that she said they would probably be doing some more East coast
shows, possibly in June. I'm ready, are you?
SET LIST: Sweet Jane, Hunted, Blue Guitar, Misguided, Sun Comes Up, Bea's Song, Common Disaster, Lonely Sinking, Just Want To See, Powderfinger(Margo & Michael alone), Anniversary (M&M alone), Good Fri, Townes',Blue Moon. Encore: No Birds, Cheap Is How I

My Wife LeeAnn And myself are both huge CJ fans. Have been since 1989. When we were first dating I bought "Trinity Session" because I liked thier cover of "Sweet Jane". I played the tape on our first date. "Misguided Angel" was our song. We now have ever
CD of the CJ's and we love them more with every new release. We were fortunate enough to see the band in the summer/fall of 97 at the Canyons(near Park City). We waited after the show to meet Margo. We chilled until she was just about finished with her v
siting to approach her. We told her how we loved her, her voice, Michaels lyrics and playing. She signed LeeAnn's cigarrete box and invited us back to the bus for a drink. Unfortunatly, we had friends that were waiting for us and did not want to stay any
onger. We even told them to take our car and we would find another way home. They would not comply. We have not seen the Junkies since. We hope that they will come to town this summer and play in a nice, intimate venue.
Thanks for the forum.

If anyone in or around Rochester MI could tell me about Meadow Brook (where CJ will be on 7/28) I'd really appreciate it. I am planning to get up there for the show but I'd like to know what type of venue it is. Also, I hate to sound like a whiner but i
anyone else disappointed that they will be back at Ravinia this summer? I mean, I am terribly happy that I get to see them perform again so quickly but what an awful venue. It is my fear that Meadow Brook will be an outdoor theater like Ravina.

For ten years I wanted to see Cowboy Junkies perform live. This past November Christmas arrived early. They were amazing, and Margo even more so. She met with as many fans as wanted to stay after the concert. She made sure to treat every fan as if "they"
ere the most important person in the room. So with this in mind, always make sure that this site treats the Cowboy Junkies as well as they treat their fans.

Two questions:
1) Has anyone received anything from the Cowboy Junkies mailing list. I sent my card in months ago and have not received anything yet
2) Is there anyway to print/obtain the complete listing of Cowboy Junkies recording from this site. I do not have access to a laser printer and with the black background, the printer I do have only prints some of the words in red.
If anyone has the answers, please e-mail me at the above address.

Carlos, thanks for the response. Sounds like your clump of CJ CDs is about like mine. I've got 32 different CDs and I count at least 9 more regular issue CDSs that I know about but have not yet collected. In addition, there must be a huge number of odd
all collections available as well as those on which Margo or Michael appear as guests. For a small and fairly obscure band, they're spread far and wide; sort of like when you get mustard on your sleeve, it's everywhere.

I have lots of wonderful memories seeing the Cowboy Junkies in concert. I first saw them on their Caution Horses tour in San Juan Capistrano (North San Diego County) and have seen them four
times since. They are easily my favorite band and I find myself listening to them so often it scares me. Margo is mezmerizing (voice and good looks) and Michael's lyrics are like poetry. I just keep hoping that they'll keep going - I'll definately cont
nue to see them when they come to San Francisco and to buy their CD's (I own all of them). Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the flowers, Margo. Don't stop. I'm pretty sure you won't.
Sincerely,

In answer to Po, I just counted 21 CD's sitting in front of me with tunes by the band on them. This does not count those with just Margo performing with other people, of which there are several. And there are quite a few of their CD's that I don't have!
By the way, the 21 number does not include collections that have songs that are available on their regular CD's...there are many more of those!

Hi all--
A few months back I posted a message here indicating my frustration with the first leg of the US tour of CJ. I was upset because CJ went from New Mexico to California, completely skipping over Arizona. I thought when they come back to the states they migh
come to AZ. But, there recent tour update indicates that they are now going from Califorina to New Mexico, completely skipping over Arizona again! I can't believe it! Who can I write to about this? Does the group have email? Should I write to the record
ompany? I am getting increasingly irritated about this. I find it so unbelievable that a tour would skip the same state twice, but go to each neighboring state both times! Can someone please offer some assistance? Thanks!

"Toronto's Cowboy Junkies, making their first tour of Australia, have struck it rich with one reviewer who saw one of their opening concerts at Sydney's State Theatre. "It's taken Cowboy Junkies 13 years and seven albums to make their first visit to Austr
lia," said The Australian's rock reviewer Iain Shedden. "It was well worth the wait." Shedden said that if a metaphor was needed to illustrate the sedate nature of the band, it was the sight of a roadie running on stage with a cup of tea for singer Margo
immins. "This is a band who are about ambience and texture" Shedden wrote. "Yet their songs, tinged with the raw sentiments of country music and the dark, stark musicality of the Velvet Underground, employ a delicate understatement that in its execution i
as powerful as any rock band. Less, in this case, is often more."

I couldn't agree with you more Danny. The CJ's have touched my life ever since my college DJ days when we got the Promo Sweet Jane/Live tracks single and shortly after, PSCM. One listen to Crescent Moon and I was hooked! Five concerts and six years later
just keep getting more and more hooked every time I hear them and every time I see them (5 times now). I hope someone from the band gets to see some of these postings. I think CJ fans are very dedicated to them and they should know how wonderful they are
BTW: The track on "Deadicated" is a beautiful version of "To Lay Me Down." I also recommend their cover of "The Water Is Wide" on the "River Wild" soundtrack. I could go on and on. If anyone has tapes of all of their b-sides (I have a degree in Music Bus
ness and still can't figure out why labels only release the bonus tracks overseas and on promo issues)I would be very interested in discussing a trade. -- Scott

I don't know the average age of CJ's fans but I'm 47 and can't get enough of 'em! I first heard Whites Off Earth Now in 92. I checked out the cassette from the library because the name of the band and the title of the album intrigued me. When I listened t
it Margo's voice floored me; then her brothers lyrics worked their way into my brain and wouldn't leave; then the haunting, rocking, mystical, bluesy sound of the band (especially that bass!!) combined with the voice and the lyrics left me feeling like I
d just injected a new drug that no one else new about. I haven't been this fascinated with a group of musicians since I was 12 years old and first heard the Beatles! Anyway, if anyone connected with the band ever reads this please know you have a dedicate
core group of fans who really appreciate what you are doing! And please, COME BACK TO ST. LOUIS SOON AND OFTEN!! - I'm done.

I believe the first time I heard CJ it was on the tribute album to the Grateful Dead called Deadicated. I can't remember the song they covered, but I remember enjoying their rendition of the song. After hearing their version of Sweet Jane on Natural Bor
Killers, I had to buy a CJ album. I went out and bought 'Lay it down.' CJ is brilliant because they combine beautifully powerful lyrics with bluesy yet unique rhythms. I believe CJ touches so many people with their songs because of the truth in the ly
ics as well as the passionate way in which the songs are expressed.

"Songs From Maiden's Mill" is indeed a promo-only issue from Universal, which is Geffen's label in Canada. It was given away with the purchase of "Miles From Our Home" at one of the major record stores here in Canada. There are no plans to release it anyw

Just thought I'd chime in on the posted thoughts about the Junkies U.S. closing date Saturday night at the 9:30. I thought it was a really good set, but I would much rather see them outdoors (like at Wolf Trap this past September) or in one of those gorge
us converted/restored old theaters (like in Richmond in October). Several reasons: 1) idiot club employees as posted below; 2) generally uncomfortable and obstructed views; and 3) damn noisy (why pay to see a band if you're just gonna talk through the who
e show?). Ah well...Margo and company made it worth it (as always), and I hope they are coming back this summer. At the end of the show she did thank the area for its strong support.

Great show in DC on the 16th. I'm with you Steve, concerning venue management. It would really be nice if the management and the band had some correlation about what they will and will not allow. The band is so laid back and encourages fan participatio
at every turn.. When the fans try to participate, the management squashes them like bugs; sort of like what happened to Steve Saturday night. Anyway Margo really seemed to be "up" for the show and the music was outstanding, as always. Margo indicated t

Just wanted to add to Clay's post:
Stripped down version of Over the Rhine was excellent, as was the Cowboy Junkies. There set seemed to be a little more upbeat this time around.
Let see, setlist with commentary...Powderfinger-Hunted-Blue Guitar-(Story about the Cowboy Junkies are in the process of setting up a web page, should be online this summer, www.cowboy-junkies.ca , I believe, and a dedication of the next song to the Wild
owboys ;-) )-Misguided Angel-Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning-Cause Cheap is how I feel-(story about Margo's first online experience)-Common Disaster-Lonley Sinking Feeling-Just Want to See (blistering guitar solo by Mike at the end, where he broke seve
al guitar strings)-If you were the Woman, and I was the man-(Story about tailgateing in Canada, dedication of song to Kaitlyn)-Anniversary Song-Darkling Days-Miles from our home-Sweet Jane-Blue Moon. E: Good Friday-Highway Kind.
Excellent show, till I got arrested at the end. Venue management sucks!

i also saw the junkies at the roxy in boston... such a warm performance...
anyway, after the show i got to meet margo and i asked her if she might make a dedication to my boyfriend in ny at the irving plaza show (since she made a dedication during ours i didn't think it was too far-fetched a request)...she said she'd try but she
might forget (as she forgot the words on stage to her own song)...
well, my boyfriend didn't get to go after all because the show was sold out...so now i'm very curious as to whether she said anything...
so if any of you went to the nyc show or know someone who did, you could you let me know some details from the show, namely whether margo dedicated "misguided angel"?
thanks a lot...

I was standing right in front of them, so I wasn't focused on writing the list, but I'll try to remember it as close as I can....
Sweet Jane, 'Cause Cheap is How I Feel, Blue Guitar, Miles From Our Home, Misguided Angel, Crescent Moon, Good Friday, Darkling Days, Hunted (with a killer extended electric mandolin solo by Jeff), Anniversary Song (Margo & Mike), If You Were The Woman an
I Was The Man (Margo & Mike, just Margo singing), A Common Disaster, Angel Mine, Just Want to See. ENCORES: Sun Comes Up It's Tuesday Morning (Margo & Mike), Highway Kind, Blue Moon Revisited
I'm pretty sure that's all of the songs, I may be missing one, but I don't think so. That's not exactly the order. I'm pretty sure the first five are in order and I know the encores are in order.

Back from the Roxy show in Boston. Wow, first time at the Roxy, nice place. My girlfriend and I got to stand just a couple of feet from Margo and Mike! It was really nice. Over The Rhine opened once again with a smaller group (three, Karen, Ditweiler (sp?
and Jeff Bird on Double Bass). It took an unusally long time for the CJs to appear. Mike popped in and out picking up guitars but they didn't appear for a long time. When they did come out there were major sound problems. During the opener (Sweet Jane) t
e mic wasn't working, and when it did it gave some strange feedback/reverb noise. On other songs the bass was distorted and way too loud. Overall I'd say it was a pretty good performance. They did seem really tired and I think the sound system was aggrava
ing Margo. She seemed to be really tired or frustrated. She missed a few lyrics and forgot part of "Sun Comes Up..". She was cool through the whole thing though. She went and got her book of lyrics, and when she couldn't find the song just threw all the p
pers out of it, then closed her eyes and sang it better than I've ever heard her sing it! The highlight of this show for me (other than standing right in front of them) was "Crescent Moon," my favorite and the "our song" of my girlfriend and I. It was don
superbly! Margo had a funny story about going to a restaurant in Boston and the manager said "has anyone ever told you you look just like that girl from Cowboy Junkies." She really kept him going and he never figured it out! I picked up one of Jeff Bird'
CDs at the shirt booth, it's a trio he did with Witold Grabowiecki and Randall Coryell called "Live at the Oasis Lounge" (Waterloo, Ontario). It has some great jazz trio pieces including Miles Davis' "Flamenco Sketches." I highly recommend it if you love
jazz. Lastly, they were out of "Over The Rhine" CDs, does anyone know where to get the disc? Thank you Cowboy Junkies for a great US tour and I hope to see you in the summer!!! Best of luck in DC and overseas. -- Scott

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the latest CJ offering and at first it was so hard to listen to straight through because I thought they were changing and heading towards the dreaded top 40 pop charts due to the recent airplay and gro
ing popularity of the title song, but it was only until my uncle recently passed away that I began listening to the entire CD and understanding the process with which the new offering was made from. Just like The Caution Horses is to me the best collectio
of love songs, Miles From Our Home is an album of renewal, and aside from the bigger sounding songs like the title track, the Junkies have still kept the integrity and quality of their music with which they started out with, so I am looking forward to an
ther offering from them, anxious about what heights their musical journey takes them next.

Last night I was sitting in my office, talking on the phone with a friend (one of my more obnoxious friends who eats and watches TV while they're on the phone). Through the receiver I heard a familiar shuffling rhythm. Two notes into the song I cried "O
my God!!! I'll have to call you back later!!!" and rushed to the nearest TV (and tripped over everything in sight in a mad rush to get to the bedroom). I wasn't mistaken - there it was! On NBC! "Sweet Jane"! At first I couldn't figure out exactly wh
t was going on - the song was accompanied by visuals of someone's hands in water, then of a body floating face down. How disappointed I was to find out it was just soundtrack to the latest schlocky movie of the week. I guess that l have to admit now that
I'm obsessed - between the Pavlovian response to THAT SONG and the fact that 90 seconds of Junkies was enough to keep me glued to the first 15 minutes of the movie (and peeking in on it periodically through the evening. It was something called "The Wrong
Girl" starring Barbara Mandrell and some girl trying desparately to channel Rose McGowan ...) It's a sickness ... (sing) but I was Junkie when Junkie wasn't cool :-)

er than go to the box office. Hope this helps and you can make it to the show.

Ooooh, I'm just fuming. It has indeed been confirmed that our beloved CJs will be at The Roxy in Boston on 1/13. Well, I got as excited as could be, went right down to Ticketmaster (other names have been suggested) just to find out that the tix are a whop
ing $60 a piece. No other prices available, not a scalper agency price. I don't know if this is a benefit or a special event, but I never thought the CJs would be playing shows that could exclude their fans (sorry, but after the holidays $60 is a lot of m
ney). Is anyone else outraged by this?
On a more pleasant note, I want to thank the CJs for another great year of music and memories (The Harborlights show was a dream) and wish them luck on their tour overseas. Thanks also to Maurizio for maintaining this great site! Happy Holidays everyone!

Maurizio and All CJ Fans,
I am wishing all of you a very Happy Holiday Season. I hope the band will see smooth sailing ahead in 1999. I am still very concerned about the Polygram/Universal merger. I read another report where the Geffen roster was going to be subject to dee
cuts. I hope Cowboy Junkies will not be one of them.
To all of the members of the band and the crew-Here's to hoping that the road will treat you kindly. May there be many fun surprises, hilarious new stories to unfold and tell later on when the tour is done and may there be a ready and supportive shou
der to cry on when times are tough. You are all very much loved. You deserve so much for creating art in an industry that seems to knock people down so hard. Stay strong, stay tough and stay loving in spite of it all.

Life is Sweet! I've just returned from my 8th show this tour, the "secret" show in Toronto on December 15. I found out about it here in NY by word of mouth. The turnout was about a third of the venue's capacity,so maybe it wasn't well publicized in Toront
either. The show was a benefit for Toronto YWCA shelters. Over The Rhine was absent, and the show was opened by a woman whose name I didn't catch, followed by Melanie Doane. Both of whom were OK but not great,IMHO. The four Junkies and Jeff Bird took the
tage and played a short (70 min.) and very sweet set. Without the OTR members, the band stuck to a mostly older set of material - only two songs from the new CD were performed all night. I was especially pleased to hear "Cause Cheap is How I Feel" and "If
ou Were the Woman and I Was the Man" for the first time (for me) this tour. I thought Michael got the award for MVP at this show. His solos were so hot that I found I didn't even miss the OTR members! Especially exceptional was his solo on "Just Want To S
e". It was certainly the fastest I've ever seen him play, with a razor incisiveness that really underscored the lyrics to this one. Margo told the story about the bride at the Northampton,Ma show in September that I was also at. It was cool to hear a follo
-up story when I could perfectly visualize the actual event. (That bride has certainly made a lasting impression on Margo - I'm jealous!) They saved the high point of the show for the encore, when they performed "The Highway Kind", another Townes Van Zandt
gem. (Is this the song Steve and Carlos were asking about?) I was so pumped up that the 3 hour drive home after the show went by in no time. Now if i can just get to that DC show in January!

My wife, Lupe, and I saw the Cowboy Junkies last night(12/10) in Cupertino at the Flint Center on the DeAnza College Campus. The event was a benefit for the Toys For Tots program sponsored by the U.S. Marines. It was put on by San Francisco radio station
FOG FM 104.5. We saw the CJ's in August at the Warfield in S.F. We had taken our rapid transit train so were under the constraints of having to catch the last train of the night home. Because of this we could stay for the signing and picture session after
this show. This time I told my wife we were going to meet them in person and stay as long as it took to do so. I called the radio station a couple days before the show to see if the CJ's were going to have a session after the show. I was concerned because
they were sharing the headline with Keb Mo (excellent R&B group)and were on the stage first!! The station told me that the CJ's hadn't told them of any signing get together after the show. I was getting real sad and disappointed. I told my wife we would t
y anyway, even if it took almost getting arrested. We had to leave for our 70 mile drive real early because of the early show start(7:30) and the fact that the show was in the Silicon Valley area where they make computer components faster and the traffic
much slower. We arrived at the Flint Center about 4 PM or so. We walked around like a couple of kids thinking of breaking into the candy store looking for open doors or anyone with a simpathetic ear to at least let us listen to sound check. We found the o
en ungarded side door to the back stage area. Keb Mo was doing their sound check. We were told we could not be in there but we listen at the door. Way cool!!! We asked if the CJ's had arrived yet and we were told no. We were hungry so we went across the s
reet to a nice place for dinner. We came back to the Center about 5:10 PM. We expected to see the tour bus or something but didn't. Then we back to side door. As we were walking closer we could hear Margo's voice, ever so sweet, warming up for the show. I
darted into the place to get a look but the stage crew had pulled a curtain so that people like me that shouldn't be there couldn't see diddly. The sound was satisfying for the moment. We listened for a few minutes then decided to walk up the outside refr
shment area to check it's set-up and to mingle a little with other fans that had showed up early. I was not about to share our secret side door with anyone. After a few minutes I said to my wife, "let's go back to side door to check on things". The timing
was everything. I knew the CJ's would have to get a bite to eat before the show. Where was their bus??? Come to find out they flew in for this wirl-wind benefit performance. We got back to the side stage door only to hear nothing!!! I thought, "oh no-we m
ssed them". A surge of sadness came over me and my wife. Then all of a sudden Margo comes rushing from the stage area down a hallway to the dressing rooms. I hollered " HI MARGO", and got a very hurried but well recieved "HI" from her in return. I thought
well maybe all is not lost after all. She disappeared in a hurry down the hall. I was recovering from at least getting to say Hi to our very beautiful favorite lead singer and getting a reply when Michael appeared back stage. He was just standing there e
idently waiting for the rest of the group to assemble for the dinner trip. I had to get my courage up for my next bold move. I hollered "Michael, are you going to have a session for the fans after the show??? He came over to my wife and I. I was awestruck
He got a horrible look of concern on his face and said " no, unfortunately we are not". I told him we were big fans of CJ. He replied " But we'll sign everything you have, but do you have a Sharpie??? I produced a brand new one taken just for the occass
on!!!! I had the cover to 'Lay It Down' in my pocket. Michael said " let me get all of them out here to do this for you". He was calling for Margo, Peter and Alan to come on and get over here. Peter never showed but the rest did. Then I asked about a pict
re. I was getting real bold. Michael and Margo and Alan said "no problem". So with my wife on one side and me on the other Alan had I believe it was Jeff, take two wonderful pictures of us all. They even argued about the lighting!!!! It turned out to be f
ne-later on this. So with pictures taken and my head in a spin the CJ's went on a short hike across the street to get something to eat. Any other group would have been driven. They chose to just walk. We believe they went to the same restaurant we did. We
could follow their progress even to the point were they evidently turned around to go into the rear of the place because a large contingent of college students was gathered at a coffee shop next door outside on the sidewalk. Well, from there the night onl
got better. My wife and I mentioned to a few fans that we had pictures and autographs from them at this evenings event. We were asked "how'd you do that??". We said "Timing". I know we were the envy of many people. I do believe that out of the 3 to 4000(
?) people at this beautiful indoor venue, we were the only ones that got this close to the group. We feel really special. The Cowboy Junkies made us feel special. The return that this group gives to it's fans is truly awesome and heartwarming. We are not
oungsters either. I am 51 and my wife is 48!!! We took time off work for this event and will do it again when needed. Right now my head is somewhere else. My heart, however, is with a fine bunch of musicians that are as human as you can get. They know th
t without the support of the fans they could not be what they are today. I believe that one of the members looks at this page once in awhile. To you, my friend, I say thank you!!! Our life will now be a little sweeter with the fond memories of last night!

Hi All,
Recently CJ were touring the southwest United States, and they completely skipped over Arizona! They visited New Mexico and played numerous dates in California, but none in AZ, which is surprising given the huge college town of Tempe. Does *anyone* know i
they plan to make a stop here. Now that thery are revisiting some east coast cities, I find if rather odd they would skip some major cities in the west. Does anyone know why? It's difficult to be angered at my favorite band, but I must admit it is rather
frustrating.

I first heard of the junkies in 92. Used to walk my dogs at night listening to Whites Off Earth Now on headphones. Fell in love with Margo (what man wouldn't?)and have been a junkies junky ever since. Saw them in St. Louis on September 5, 98. One of the b

come back to st. louis soon. I'd love to sit & watch Margo play a blue guitar all night long - and into the morning too!

Hi Everybody,
Since the Geffen label falls under the umbrella of the upcoming merger between Polygram and Universal, I am concerned about the status of the CJ's tenure at Geffen. Since they are not big sellers, will they end up moving to an independent label?
I don't know if the band has known about this for some time or not. It might affect which direction they decide to take their music. I recall Margo having mentioned that they would like to go back to a stripped back sound on their next album. Eve
without even considering merger news, artists are prone to changing their minds about which direction they will go. I wish the band luck with this situation. I hope they are considered viable to any other labels wishing to sign them if they are let go.
This band deserves security.
Take Care,
Steve Talia

I saw the cowboy junkies in concert for the very first time a couple of weeks ago and margo timmins is positively beautiful! She looked like a young english teacher, all floral in her bowed dress with sweater. Her brother looked so mousy and I just imag
ned him eating musical cheese. I worried about him getting caught in a rusty old trap with mice blood from the seventies. They are the only band I know who's every song I love to sing, eventhough my voice is measely in comparison to the dreamy ms. timmins
I wonder if micheal timmins is married because if he is, does he imagine all these songs? I wonder if he experiences them or just makes them up from others experiences because he really has done a great job of capturing the voice of small town lives.
hey are very honest and extremely realistic, but I wonder... Do the people that live these lives, the ones that say to their mama's "it's in the way that he talks" or who live in a trailer park where a murder could occur listen to the cowboy junkies. I
ostly doubt it. They are probably living off their parents creedence and steppenwolf or are listening to brooks and dunn or something. And how many people who have posted notes on this guestbook have held their dad's rifle in their hands with police appr
aching or have been with someone who really ordered wild turkey or have seen the sides of mountains or worlds of timber be carted to disappearance, towns ghosting away? I doubt many, but now that I think about it, I think I have assumed a position from th
get go that no longer seems true or maybe never completely was? A lot of the songs give a small town feel, but many don't really unless you have that in your head, they are actually quite... universal? So... neglect what I said previously, but I think
hat my assumed position makes the cowboy junkies so great to me. But everyone probably has an assumed position that makes them particularly good to them. Okay, this is rambly, sorry.

At last, somewhere to communicate with like minded souls. THANK YOU
Have been a follower since an article in Melody Maker in 1988 (I think), around the time of Trinity Sessions. They played a folk & roots festival in Cambridge the following Easter where no-one had heard of them, which wasn't fair. I have tried to see th
m every tour and been reasonably successful, introducing new people to their very special music along the way. One of the other entries describes them as a precious thing to be cherished (different words, but I understood utterly), So personal.
They cam (very briefly) to the UK in October (Royal Festival Hall, two weeks after Neil Finn) and I had a wonderful evening (sun comes up, driving wheel, darkling days) and Margo generously came down to chat and sign anything you had to hand (a rather scr
ffy set list I had compiled on the night, now more valuable!). I asked why only one date (some unoversity dates were cancelled, frustratingly) she said "something to do with economics". Better luck next year (or move to America). Its hardwork finding o
t about them, though.
Therapy over, thank you for doing this.
I feel part of a new family.
To all the UK listees, any news you hear about tour dates, please e-mail me and perhaps we can get together?
Listening to Lay it Down in my lunch hour.....

The Cowboy Junkies show on Sessions was beautiful but way too short. Too bad the program had to allow the follow up act to share the same time slot. I won't waste the time to describe my feelings about that part of the show. Those Quartet people really sh

Just got back home from the CJ show last night at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano,CA. Their opening act was Over the Rhine. This seems to me to be a very good mating of muscial styles/genre or whatever you want to call it, as their music and style
fit very well with CJ's. So well in fact that, that the lead singer took the stage with Margo to sing harmony on several songs. Their voices blended beautifully. Also accompanying the CJ's was the key boardist for Over The Rhine, I think his name was Linf
rd Detweiler.
Margo seemed to be at her best during the performance, which lasted about 90 minutes. I think someone mentioned in the past she had changed her hair, well it looked marvelous! She mentioned near the end of the show, that they were collecting address's and
e-mail add'sa as well……for what she knew not, just that someone mentioned it may be a good idea ! She playfully added maybe they would send us something sometime.
Michael also was at his subdued best as well, livening up the room with the ocassional riffs, just to make sure we were all awake. Also performing with CJ and OTR was Jeff Byrd. Last note, I was able to get Peter's set list from one of the stage hands, wh
ch Margo signed for my wife Jane, and will post in a few days with a couple of photos.

GREETINGS,
Is it not a wonder that it is the simple things of life that matter most? That seemed to be the theme for last nights COWBOY JUNKIES show. A huge, white sheet draped behind the stage and a bouquet of white roses in the forefront greeted the near capacity
crowd at DEEP ELLUM LIVE. Bathed in lights of blue and purple the mood was that of comfort and contentment. That is a easy thing to feel at a JUNKIES show.
Vocalist Margo Timmins and her two brothers, Michael (guitar) and Peter (drums) and bassist Alan Anton are known for their presentation of fate, hope and despair. Primarily through the voice of Margo and the guitar of Michael, COWBOY JUNKIES craft a soun
that is from the heart of longing and wishes. An ability to reach inside the listener through the simple use of Margo's voice and music that can both reprimand and console has made this band unique. Why should tonights show be any different? Veteran foll
wers of CJ's had reason for concern.
Layered vocals, guitars and strings are not the hallmark of this band but that was the result of the recently released MILES FROM OUR HOME. While the new CD is a slight diversion from their past (from a production point of view) how would the new stuff b
translated live? Everyone nursed their expectations as the band took the stage.
From the onset, Margo breathed a song as natural as the wind. Her voice - that hushed voice - can take you wherever she pleases and there is little one can do about it. It is a rare thing to hear a Dallas crowd silent during a performance. Such was the c
se as everyone attached themselves to Margo as she transported the listener to where they feel best. As comfortable and familiar as a lover's breath, Margo Timmims is the only person that can whisper, moan and coo all at the same time.
The new material came out well. OVER THE RHINE singer, Karin Begquist joined COWBOY JUNKIES to sing backup during BLUE GUITAR, written by Michael Timmins and Townes Van Zandt. Instrumentally, it was the CJ's zenith of the night and gave guitarist Timmins
the opportunity to display his prowlness.
During an interlude between songs, Margo asked the crowd a question about a recent N.Y. TIMES crossword puzzle that had eluded the band. "What was Paul Newman's directorial debut?" Someone knew the answer although I did not hear it. She also shared a let
er from an Austin fan requesting RING ON A SILL. The letter pointed out Ms. Timmins' frequency of forgetting the lyrics to their music. It was ironic that she did, indeed, forget the words to one of the MILES songs. Everyone got a big laugh from it. It wa
a moment that made everyone feel human.
After the show, I waited by the tour bus for a chance to meet the band with about 30 of my fellow fans. Peter and Margo came out to chat. Everybody got a chance to say a few words or perhaps get a picture. Its November here and the summer has been refusi
g to leave. Finally, a cold front waved over us all. It was comfortable. I introduced myself to Margo and produced a sleeve from the CJ's debut WHITES OFF EARTH NOW (1986). She was impressed that I had it.
Actually, I was the one who was impressed. Adios.
Lars
PS: I write my own reviews of concerts that I attend. I've grown tired of the critic's. I send them to my friends. I hope you enjoyed this one.

Well I finally got around to adding my bit here. I guess it's timely since I just saw the CJ's, for the second time, on Nov 21st in Santa FE (NM). A very small venue, they were rested, and it was very very good. Somehow, being about the 25th or so pers
n through the door, my very best friend and I managed to sit in the first row and middle, right in front of Margo. She looked incredible.. a different look than from last time. She spoke of how for such a small place, Santa Fe was very expensive, and al
she could afford were these $1 ornaments and every where she went she ate chips and salsa. The band opened with "Sweet Jane," and later in the show, someone shouted to hear it again, Margo laughed. Some of the highlights included, "Anniversary Song," "
un Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning," If You Were the Woman and I Was The Man," (though she sang both parts along with only Michael playing guitar/they both got a laugh out of it after), a guitar only version of "Something More Besides You," (a great differ
nt twist to the song). The encore included "Crescent Moon." There was a good mix of some old songs and the new CD. Margo's voice was very good and Michael, well what can you say? His guitar playing is incredible. I really envy his collection too. Th
only downside of the night was that Margo was supposed to come out to sign stuff, etc., but after an hour, we found out their bus had left. I wasn't too bummed, since I've got to meet here before. Great show Junkies!!!

Hi everybody!
Does anyone know if the Cowboy Junkies will come to the Netherlands, I would love to see them live.
A year and a half ago I got addicted to the CJ's, no day passes without listening at least one of their records.
Dutch CJ-fans, where are you?, why don't I ever meet you? please email!

Wanted to pass on some comments about the free show the Junkies gave in Columbia, MO on 11/14. It was great to see the band, and I enjoyed the concert and got a chance to speak with Mike after the show. But in all honesty the band seemed tired (their bu
broke down on the way from Kansas City the night before), especially Margo, which see alluded to during an interview with a local radio station earlier in the day. I saw her right after the sound check, and she looked worn out, and she seemed tired duri
g the show but gave 100% of what she had in her. But she rushed off stage and on to the bus even before the other members were through with the encore! Mike seemed OK, and he was his usual self-reflective and polite self afterwards. Peter worked up more
of a sweat breaking down his drum set than he did during the show! I'm sure the grind is starting to wear on them, and the Blue Note was not the best place to hear a band like the Junkies. When Margo hit the high notes, or when some of the harder songs
ere played, the accoustics...well, they just sucked! It was too small for an excellent performance. Misguided Angel, Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning, and Blue Moon were the highlights in my opinion. In other words, the slower and softer songs went v
ry well, but the building couldn't handle the louder sounds. But heck, it was the CJ and it was free!!

Each time a new Cowboy Junkies offering came out I'd hurry back home/the dorm after the purchase and with radio beside me, I would open the disk. With each Junkies recording, up until Miles From Our Home, I was not only enthralled, but taken to a place aw
y from isolation and sadness I felt, especially with songs like To Live Is To Fly and You Will Be Loved Again, so I was a little apprehensive with release of Miles because I knew from now on things would changed, they were no longer "my" band, so to speak
It was hard for me to listen to the CD all the way through...From listening to "Darkling Days" I can tell that the eletronic age was coming upon the Junkies and perhaps Michael wanted to go back to the days of the instrumental Germinal...yet, with songs
ike Good Friday, No Birds Today, and Those Final Feet, I was saved from chucking it all out...I've been a fan since I was 16, so that would be a little drastic...thank you for this site and other sites to help me keep the faith...

Correction regarding my previous entry: "Tow the Rine" should have been "Over the Rine." Sorry about that. Also, I've been a CJs fan since the release of BEM, and I can honestly say that CJs are the only band that I listen to in which there is not one
ingle song that I don't like. There are some I enjoy more than others, but they don't have a bad song. Mike's lyrics are absolutely brilliant. Also, I am a drummer of about 12 years, and I must say that Peter is a great influence and that CJs is some o
my most favorite music to play.

Hey,I just took Carlos' suggestion to check out the cmt canada Junkies site (see url below).Reading all the reviews is pretty funny for any knowledgeable CJ fan. Some things I *learned* that I didn't know were that Alan plays drums for the band, the current
opening band is called Over the Ryan, and that one new CJ song is called "I Wish I had A New Guitar"(Anyone heard this one? I didn't think so!) I found out all these new "facts" by only reading about four reviews. I'm going back now to become even more enl

It has a great series of press stories about the band, mostly from Canadian newspapers. Provides some interesting insights into the band and their relationship with each other.
Now, what I really was looking for is: what was the date and venue of the John Prine concert where he and Margo sang "Angel From Montgomery"? Anybody know?

How did everyone in Chicago like the show on November 11? I thought it was one of the best that I've attended so far. Finally being up against the stage probably had something to do with it. :) There were many entertaining jokes that were passed betwee
CJ and Over the Rhine (I thought they were the best act I've seen open for CJ!). Margo seemed very relaxed and at ease. A little aside, in the beginning of the concert I found myself standing next to a photographer for the Rolling Stone website so look
for pictures from the concert coming soon. I'd be interested to hear what other people thought of the show. Also, did anyone happen to tape the live concert from 1996 off WXRT at the very beginning of August? It was broadcast the Sunday after they were
t Ravinia and I missed the first twenty minutes. I'd love a copy if anyone has it. Thanks and take care! Jen

I just want to point out to everyone the great job that Seth has done on his CJ web page. It can be found at:
http://members.aol.com/papaseth/home.html
It in no way replaces or competes with this page, as it is a completely different focus, with the emphasis on information, not interactivity. If you haven't looked at it lately, take a look, Seth has added a whole bunch of stuff! (and the work continues)
It's particularly interesting for early and mid-stage Junkie junkies, in my opinion, but there is stuff on there that I bet many terminal-stage Jj's don't know. Good work, Seth.

For those who were at the Boston show and were curious... Mayor Menino announced yesterday that Harborlights will indeed be moved, to Fan Pier 8.
The CJ show was the last at the old site and Margo had expressed concern that it would not be relocated, just torn down. If one of you who are going to a show soon could pass on the good news to her it would be appreciated. Harborlights will open as usual
in its new location next summer! :-)
I vote for the CJ's as "house band!"

Amazing site. i've been following the junkies since the Trinity Sessions release and it's nice to see and read you all out there. i listen to mostly punk and ska, mostly ska, but i've always been a proud and continuous CJ fan and i've turned MANY people
onto the band. There's no one like them. Would it surprise you to see a tattooed ska punk playing If You Were The Woman...on a beaten old acoustic guitar? It should'nt. Music this pure and "soft as glass" is always going to find it's own level, like w
ter. Nice to see you all!

I was introduced to the Cowboy Junkies during the summer of 1996. My roomate for ECS at IU Bloomington was a fan. After buying 200 More Miles at The Den on Kirkwood, I brought them home to share with my sister. She particularly loves Misguided Angel. A Mu
ical Key makes me cry because it reminds me of my grandmother, a gifted organist who touched so many lives (mine included) with song. I am also reminded of my mother, who makes the church feel like home when I hear her angel voice. I "collect" angel songs
and Angel Mine is naturally my favorite. No matter what, I will always love the Cowboy Junkies. They are the best.

I think the idea of a video is great, but aren't the CJ going to perform at Sessions on West 54th on 11/27? Surely they will have a set list similar to their current tour. Don't get me wrong, a video is great, but the show on 11/27 might be great - I'm

Jeff (and anyone else who is interested), the name of the opening band is "Over the Rhine." They are from Cincinnati, and I think the only place you can currently get their cds is through the band itself. The current website is http://www.overtherhine.com
As far as I know, they will still be opening for the Junkies on the next leg of the tour.

I saw our heroes at the fabulous Centrepoint Theatre in Ottawa on September 25th..our 17th wedding anniversary. The last time I saw Margo et al. was at a HORRIBLE smoky, noisy club where I strained to hear her georgeousness...I dreamed of a venue like the
one at Centrepoint...and we all know how rarely our expectations are exceeded in this life of ours...by the second song, Blue Guitar, tears of joy began to trickle down my cheeks...tears from a man who cries once a decade...I couldn't contain my bliss..it
was magical..how can I explain?? you have to love the junkies...( the work with the opening act was terrific throughout the show )
I have to say no music moves me more..........

I first heard the Cowboy Junkies on the radio in the Summer of 96, when Lay it Down came out, and their music was really just what I was looking for. Most rock music seemed too cynical and shallow, and folk music seemed too vapid for me. I like music when
I can hear and understand how it was made, and I've never gotten tired of listening to LID for this reason. I think Miles is a little overproduced for me (I can't understand all the miscellaneous sounds in it). I did see the group tape a video in NYC, and
they played songs from Miles that sounded much better than the studio versions (including a hypnotic Blue Guitar). They are excellent mucicians.

Hi. Just wanted to say I saw the band in concert last weekend in Troy NY. First time I saw them even though I have been a fan for years. The music hall I saw them in is very old and small. It was a great place to see them and I thought it was great. After
the concert they came out into the hall to thank every body for coming out to see them. I managed to get an autographed copy of their new disk and I haven't listened to anything else since. Can't wait to see them again.

Seth, I agree with you!! Northwest Florida IS the South, however. Palm Beach and Orlando, and Clearwater though...uh, uh!! I'm making the drive to Clearwater, but I wish they would play Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Austin, Mobile, Montgomery, Nashville,
iloxi, Hattiesburg, southern Georgia, etc... In other words, the TRUE South. If so, I'm like you, I'd see 4 or 5 shows!! Maybe next time around.

I don't understand why they aren't more "popular".
I have a hard time finding anyone that has even heard of them. (they are so good) The web page is nice; thanks!

I thought I'd share my experiences from the last 3 shows I attended. The Tralf in Buffalo is a great club setting - stage in front, bar (and noise) in rear.CJ's played a strong show, only marred by the one drunk woman screaming out "Margo" most of the night.
I always seem to sit next to the one loud drunk every time I see music in Buffalo. No meet and greet session this night,as the band was driving home to Toronto to sleep in their own beds after the show. The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto is a fine old hall,
ven if a bit neglected. The sound was really good,as it has been for most of the tour (thanks,Rob!).Toronto gets my vote for the most attentive and courteous audience. From the time Over The Rhine began until the final note of the Junkies encore there was
O audience noise, only people intently listening. What a great experience! This show and Troy,NY were my favorites of the ones I saw.A Common Disaster was dedicated to Pete Timmons after Margo told about how he got them blacklisted from the Today show.It see
s that after they performed on the show (at 5:30 am)they returned to the hospitality area where the Today show was on a monitor.Pete picked up a remote and went channel surfing, which severely antagonized the Today show staff person, who threatened not to h
ve them back. The next night the show was in my hometown of Rochester,NY. I knew the place they were booked into was a dump as well as a large bar and I pleaded with the promoter to change the venue to a theater, unfortunantly to no avail. The show was well
ttended, but not by CJ fans. Most people it seems, came to drink and talk. The venue has mediocre sound, which probably contributed to people's short attention spans.CJ's tried to overcome it by playing a real rock 'n' roll set,but the audience was just too ru
e.They dropped all the acoustic numbers and played a shorter set than usual. They did, however, end the set with To Love is to Bury, which Margo said that they haven't performed for a long time.I've been talking to Margo after most shows and she knows me by
ight, and that I was from Rochester.Imagine my humiliation after my hometown proves themselves to be a bunch of rude a**holes. No autograph session tonight either (no surprise).I felt compelled to try to apologize for my stupid city and my friends and I me
Margo at the bus.I guess she could tell how upset I was.She seemed even more warm and accomodating than usual,if that's possible. She signed all my vinyl and posters (even though I bring lots of stuff to every show)and posed for photos. She then offered to
take my LP's on the bus for "the boys" to sign. Then she even dragged Michael out of the bus to say hello, which was a first for me.Best of all, they didn't hold me responsible for the prior debacle of a show.I just can't believe what great PEOPLE they are,
as well as fantastic musicians.I thought Roch would be my final show this tour, but I think I'd rather end the tour on a high note,so I might go to Pittsburgh, even though I can't afford it.I didn't include set lists,as I've already blathered on too long.I
anyone wants them,email me.

In regards to Scott's post, I was under the impression that Michael Timmins knew of this site through David Houghton. I know I complained quite a bit about the lack of shows in the South (sorry Sophia, but the CJ not playing the southern U.S. would have
een truly misguided!) and was involved in the discussion over SOT, which David Houghton relayed to M. Timmins. But I agree, if the band is not aware of this site, they should be because here lie the hard core Junkies. So let's let them know!!

What a disappointment that the CJ's can't make it to the UK in the autumn. I think they are misguided! They have a lot of fans over here, so maybe it's a blessing in disguise that they are not doing just a fleeting visit this time, but make a proper go of
it next year. We'll be waiting in eager anticipation. I'm already looking forward to their visit to my area! So, please, please come this way.

You people are not doing your jobs ;-)
I talked to Margo after the Harborlights show in Boston (A 5-star show, the Boston Herald doesn't know anything about music)and mentioned that I was a member of the CJFan list and even mentioned Maurizio. She said she hadn't heard of it but would check it
out. Let's let the band know we're out here and we love them!
PS: Does anyone know if the're relocating Harborlights or just getting rid of it?
PPS: Did anyone tape the Boston show?

Favorite song? Wow that's a tough one. I must say Good Friday off of Miles From Home has me captivated at the moment.
Just saw CJ at the Beacon Theater in NYC and hope to catch them at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY next month.
