A TIME TO DIE
Old Father Time
Was catching up.
I tried to hide
It just wasn't enough.
Tic-Toc
As fast as I can
Tic-Toc
I ran.
I knew I was old
And so did he.
Around corners and turns
He knew where I'd be.
Tic-Toc
As fast as I can
Tic-Toc
I ran.
He was catching up
I was sure of that.
I tried to run faster.
I was trapped like a rat.
Tic-Toc
As fast as I can
Tic-Toc
I ran.
I was trapped in a corner
There was no way out.
I was about to die
Of that I had no doubt.
Tic-Toc
There was nowhere to run.
Tic-Toc
I was done.
As I turned around
I saw a tiny old guy.
He spoke softly and said,
"It is your time to die."
As he muttered these words
I thought to myself,
Was I running from him
That little elf?
And then it struck me,
Like lightning to a tree,
I was not running from him,
I was running from me.
Running from the past
And what I used to be,
A robber. A thief.
With new eyes I now see,
That life is precious.
Be all you can be!
See all, do all,
Or you'll end up like me.
Running from yourself
With nowhere to run.
Old Father Time
Will get the job done.
Tic-Toc
Went my clock.
Tic-Toc
And then it stopped.
