When a student comes back to me for lesson 2, they are usually ready to learn something new. They have been practicing the Major chords and are ready to start playing some music. Before I give them songs to play though, my students learn the Minor chords. This shows them the different moods that different types of chords create. This also continues to build up their finger strength and picking accuracy. I tell them to practice the Minor chords the same way that they practiced the Major chords. (See lesson 1). The following is an excellent source for learning the Minor chords on-line.
When I show the beginning guitarist the Minor chord for the first time and they hear how the mood of the chord changes, I hit them with my chord structure lesson. Click on the link below to get your first taste of guitar theory.
Every time you practice a new lesson, use the lessons that you learned previously as a warmup. This keeps the "old" stuff from being forgotten. Also notice how that 1 hour practice time is getting shorter. Pretty neat huh?
