The first time I can remember ever hearing one of Marvin Gayes songs is when I approached my biological father for the first time. He was standing beside his car with the radio on and her this tune and everytime I hear that song I recall that day meeting my father. I can picture myself watching television with my mom (Soul Train) and she was getting excited while Marvin was performing. I am tremendous fan of Marvin Gaye. Fascinated by his life and inner struggles. Love the album "Hear My Dear," even though it was ravaged by the critics at the time. As someone in their 20s, I did not grow up listening to him, but began listening to him a d reading up on him intensively in college. I saw Marvin in concert in Milwaukee, and it was one of the best shows I've ever beedn to. During the concert I was thinking I would love to touch him and just get one of his buttons off his suit, or some small souvenir. At the end of the concert I think I and everybody else wanted something from Marvin. He took off across the stadium field running. I never felt so exhilirated in my life. I hate that Marvin's life ended so tragically. He was indeed a Superstar.

GIVE IT UP FOR MARVIN P. GAYE!!! First of all, I'd like to thank you for setting up such a wonderful tribute to Marvin Gaye. He was my 2nd cousin (no joke)!! My maternal Grandmother (the late Tolie May of N.C.) was his Aunt (in other words, my mom's his 1st cousin). Although I was o ly 10 years of age when he died in 1984, I was fortunate to have met him in 1983. All I remember was a warm and soft spoken man who kissed me on the forehead and took a picture with me. Sadly, back then, I was too young to know how incredible he was as a erson and as a musician. I wish I could have told him how much his music means to me and the world. Marvin was about LOVE--love for GOD, love for the world, and love for music. Unfortunately, too many "young" people only know him for Sexual Healing and MAYBE a couple of other songs. However, Marvin had all kinds of flavors--his political, sexual and spiritual conciousness paved the way for many artists today (especially hip op). Don't get me wrong, Marvin gets his credit but not enough. Musically, he should be considered just as great as Elvis, if not greater. Marvin wasn't white, though. That's why it's up to us fans to express just how great his music is--in terms of music l quality, not color. LONG LIVE THE MUSIC OF MARVIN GAYE!! An album by Marvin Gaye should be a must in any music collection.

I have loved his music since my daddy played it for me as a young girl.....I have yet to see an artist come close to his original style. True he had some serious personal problems but his music came through and related to a lot of people.
