Utilizing an idea I came up with during a long road trip from Dallas to Tucson, I decided to map out sections of my life as "chapters". Each chapter ends when a significant change (i.e. location) takes place. Chapters read as follows:
* CN (Chapter Number) - numbered in chronological order (1, 2, 3, etc)
* CT (Chapter Title) - some cute two-word name I gave it
* TP (Time Period) - years represented by the time period
* NF (Notable Friend) - a friend most vividly present at the time
* RC (Romantic Companion) - a female with whom I was the most romantic
* PA (Peak Acheivement) - my highest creative accomplishment during that time
* HL (Home Location) - where I was living through most of the period
* BD (Breif Description) - what I (and all else) was like during that period
Note that initials after Notable Friend (NF) stand for whether I parted with that friend on good terms (GT) or bad terms (BT), or if there was no discernable parting as of yet (NP). What would your life read like if it was organized this way?
CN: CHAPTER ONE
CT: LITTLE DAVID
TP: 1976-1986 (10 years)
NF: Chris Risley (GT)
RC: Natasha Bonham - first kiss
PA: Peter Rabbit - kindergarten play
HL: Beaver Dams, NY
BD: Made drawings and watched cartoons to the point of obsession. Put into school a year earlier than I should have been. Was very immature around others. Fantasized about cartoon characters. Pretended that recess was my own musical variety show.
CN: CHAPTER TWO
CT: OPTION TWO
TP: 1986-1992 (6 years)
NF: Aaron Tiffany (BT)
RC: none
PA: The Lion's Roar - elementary school newspaper
HL: Corning, NY
BD: Was put into an "Option Two" group because of erratic behavior. Became a Monkees fan via TV re-runs. Became so obsessed with Batman that people called me "Bat-fag". Lost multiple fights, and was eventually considered uncool by everyone. Made an ass of myself in vain attempts to impress people. Won a drawing contest that got me local news attention.
CN: CHAPTER THREE
CT: HIGH SCHOOL
TP: 1992-1995 (3 years)
NF: Rodney Scouten (GT)
RC: none(!)
PA: Art Club Newsletter - self-printed magazine
HL: Corning, NY
BD: Got out of "Option Two" by numbing myself to schoolmate abuse. Became president of Art Club. Continued to sign everything using my full name. Became known as "that guy that likes the Beatles". Joined numerous clubs during 12th grade, but still had few real friends. Began doing plays and writing poetry. Went to proms with my mom's co-workers' daughters. Spent lunch time in the yearbook staff dark-room because I got tired of people watching me eat alone.
CN: CHAPTER FOUR
CT: LITTLE COLLEGE
TP: 1995-1998 (3 years)
NF: Lou Binetti Jr. (BT)
RC: Thomasine Lubertowicz - first girlfriend (3 months)
PA: Gay Cops - first pro-edited video project
HL: Corning, NY
BD: Went a full year without a haircut. Kept writing sappy poetry and wearing Beatles T-shirts. Became obnoxiously outgoing, only to lose friends to more obnoxious people. Socially peaked at Year One. Discovered the internet during Year Two. Should never have joined the campus radio station or met the majority of its members. Returned to CCC for a third year, in a vain effort to do more college plays and video projects. Had better luck, better roles, and better friends by doing community plays outside of college.
CN: CHAPTER FIVE
CT: BIG COLLEGE
TP: 1998-2000 (2 years)
NF: Brian Newark (GT)
RC: Cindy Clark - third girlfriend
PA: Retro Man - video project
HL: Fredonia, NY
BD: Finally learned to drive. Finally had friends that I could hang out with, in Corning and Fredonia. Finally had a real relationship with a woman. Became disinterested with the college's drama club after one semester, despite good roles. Spent much time watching "Sifl & Olly", writing video projects, and downloading mp3's. Finally found my niche, but graduated that same semester.
CN: CHAPTER SIX
CT: NEWS VIDEO
TP: 2000-2002 (2 years)
NF: Adam Lindquist (GT)
RC: Cindy Clark - girlfriend/fiancee
PA: Senior Notebook - local TV series
HL: Corning, NY
BD: Went from news photographer to commercial producer at local TV news station. Made numerous visits to my former college, and a friend's college. Lived with my fiancee in my parents' house. Helped my fiancee recover from a neck-breaking car accident. Recorded an album and co-wrote songs with my musician friend.
CN: CHAPTER SEVEN
CT: UPTOWN DALLAS
TP: 2002-2004 (2.5 years)
NF: Kevin Hurley (BT)
RC: Cindy Clark - fiancee
PA: Absolute Pitch - internet radio show
HL: Dallas, TX
BD: Moved with my Corning friend to Dallas, amidst much objection from my family. Spent my first year there living with him, my fiancee, and a makeshift radio station in our apartment. Attended a Paul McCartney concert. Went through numerous retail jobs during Year One. Eventually got my own apartment (with my fiancee), a pet cat, and a steady job at Blockbuster Video.
CN: CHAPTER EIGHT
CT: CORNING COMEBACK
TP: 2004-? (? years)
NF: Mike Lese
RC: Cindy Clark - fiancee/wife
PA: Beauty and the Beast - stage play
HL: Corning, NY
BD: Returned to Corning, and to video production, this time working for Fox-TV. Returned to community theater (ending a five-year hiatus) by doing numerous dinner theater and other plays. Finally landed a lead role in a major musical. Married my girlfriend/fiancee of eight years.
