Al's lair

Minimalism defined

This sorry site was my former roomate's lair. During my first semester at SFU in 92, Andy, a skiing guru, went back to Scotland, leaving me and my other roomie little time to do a proper screening for our Lougheed Mall area apartment. Anyway, the day before I went home for X-mas, we ended up with Al (not pictured), whose father had convinced us that he would be a perfect fit. We battled on several occasions during the new year, mainly over dirty dishes and Al's 24-7 drug habits, often manifesting itself in noon sessions of blading on the stove top. He once took down a phone number message for me akin to the following, in a barely discipherable scrawl:

423215

what the hell is that! Only 6 digits and no name, which had to retrieved from the garbage when I inquired about it! Geeezzzeee!!!!! He needed structure in his life, among other things, for starters some clothes and a mattress. I'm trying to get a danged MA degree, but at times felt I was on a Co-op work term in Nootka Sociology. I didn't have roomates for about 2 years after this crap, moving to a basement suite in the house of a retired couple. This shot was taken the day I moved back to the Maritimes for the summer to get prepared for my PEI fieldwork.
