bridge tolls: a myth to
Vancouverites?
John
Martin came east to visit in July 1997. Little did
I know that crossing the 75 cent toll bridge connecting
Halifax-Dartmouth would be a source of bewilderment and
amusement for this usually bright geographer. After tossing
the requisite 3 quarters into the plastic net, John
quickly
asked how much money did I "donate" to the
city. When
I calmed down from my bout of hysterics, I educated the
passenger that one had to pay a fare of .75, quarters
only
(I know, an anal rule), or a prepaid token each way. I
guess
I can give him the benefit of the doubt as he drew his
donation
theory from the flap as depicted on the photo. (yeah,
we're
a 'friendly' people down here, but wasn't it strange that
*everyone*
was throwing money away!) geeezzzzeeee!! The return trip
was just as eventful, as the inept west coaster pulled an
Avent by unsuccessfully missing the basket, tossing a few
coins over the roof from the passenger side of the car.
Needless to say John's been banned from the bridge
indefinitely.
