This page is in honor of the guys in XYZ, a great rocking band from the era of Headbanger's Ball. I went looking for an XYZ page in 1999 but couldn't find one, so that leaves it up to me.
To quote an overused commercial, guys, "This one's for you."

Forbidden Demos 1985-1991
Just released Sept. 26 2005 through FYCO Records. Here's the press release that I got from Terry today:
XYZ / TERRY ILOUS TO RELEASE 'FORBIDDEN DEMOS 1985 /
1991'
(September 22, 2005 - Los Angeles, CA) XYZ frontman
Terry Ilous has
gone
back into his archives and discovered eighteen demo
songs
that the public
has
never had a chance to hear. "Some of these songs
should have ended up
on
the first or second cd," relates Ilous. "It's about
time they made it
out
to the public because they bring back such great
memories of that whole
time period."
Arriving in Los Angeles from Europe in 1985 Ilous and
XYZ bassist, Patt
Fontaine set about finding compatible band members to
help make their
"rock star dreams" a reality. "It was very hard to
form a band iat the
time," recalls Terry. "I only spoke Spanish and
French - not so rock '
n
'roll, you know - finally destiny sent me 2 winners
Marc Diglio and
Paul
Monroe. It took a while to find them but it was
definitely worth it."
The band slugged it out on Hollywood's famed Sunset
Strip for four
years
alongside the likes of Warrant, Bang Tango, Guns 'N
Roses and others
who,
like XYZ, went on to see various degees of success in
the music world.
While playing the club circuit, XYZ also spent a lot
of time demo-ing
their material and presenting those demos to every
label that would
accept
a package. Terry: "I always loved the song "Cant Get
Over You", which
I
wrote for my wife. We spent every dime we had
demo-ing those songs.
still
today they mean a lot to me and I know the fans will
love them as much
as
I do!"
'Forbidden Demos 1985 / 1991' will be released on Sept
26 through FYCO
Records. The track listing is:: "Can't Get Over You"
(1990 -
previously
unreleased), "Inside Out" (Demo - 1988), "High Life"
(with Marc Diglio
-
1988), "Follow the Night" "You Got Me Wrong" (Live -
1988), "After the
Rain" (Demo - 1987), "Souvenirs" (Demo with Marc
Diglio - 1988), "Made
For
Love" (1986), "It Could Be You" (1986), "Seventeen"
(1986), "Just A
Friend" (1985), "Lonely Without You" (with Marc
Diglio), "Missin You"
(with Marc Diglio), "Rainy Days" (with Bobby Pieper),
"Lonely Without
You"
(with Bobby Pieper), "Never Too Late", "Souvenirs"
(with Bobby Pieper),
"High Life" (with Bobby Pieper).
Take care ,
Terry Ilous

Tour Report
Well folks, I'm still recovering from last night's show near Milwaukee. What a fun time. I took down the set list. If you want to be surprised, don't read any further. It's too bad there wasn't a bigger crowd. Ah well. Don't know for sure what kind of promotion got done, and it's not like the band is going to get any radio support without a single and a major label yadda yadda yadda. We've heard it all before, haven't we, folks? It doesn't change the fact that they had fun up on stage and the people who were there were very happy to be there. I will post photos when I get them back from the developer sometime this week. Patt's stage antics were surely missed, but Terry's voice is sounding as good as ever. It was nice to meet Jeff after all this time. Definitely recommend seeing their show if they're close by. It's always good to take a nostalgia trip and reconnect with your 19-year-old self, isn't it? Or you might still be stuck in the late 80s. Then you definitely need to check out a show!
Set List: Jan 7, 2005-CUDAHY, WI.- VNUK'S
What's On Your Mind
Maggy
Off to The Sun (Terry called it his fave off Hungry)
Take What You Can

"It took us 10 years to make it back here. Do you think we're going to make you wait?"

Inside Out
Other updates
The Capitol best-of is still on hold. Terry ideally would like to get other former members' input on the project as well.
Patt reports that Puzzlegut is done, and he's working on another project. More on that when we know. The www.puzzlegut.com is currently still up and includes an mp3.
May 2004...
If you'd like news as soon as I get it, I've started a Yahoo group for the band, just to make sure that everyone finds out the news when they want it. It's called XYZ Music Fans. It's the easiest for me to update, rather than an e-mail list (and then you can opt in and out any time you want w/o waiting for me to update my list, which I'm a little slow at sometimes).

The album will be released by MTM Records Germany April 22nd however Terry on his own imprint label is pressing this special edition to be sold by just a few selected outlets. Due to the extra work involved the release will be a few days later than the German however it will include 3 bonus songs, different artwork and we will be able to retail for $4 less than normal MTM releases. As a side-note, Terry lost both his son and father during the recording of this CD which became the inspiration for the album title.

XYZ hits CD to come out, update on new album
Capitol Records is coming out with a hits CD on XYZ some time this year, which will apparently will have seven songs, five live tunes, and two new cuts (or maybe they'll be the Japanese bonus tracks? We can only hope!)
Terry is also hoping to find a support team for the release, so e-mail me with any promo ideas, and I'll pass them on. (I promised him to do a better job of updating this site, so help me keep that promise!)

Here's another quote from MTM's news: "news 20.02.2003:
XYZ "Letter To God" release: 22.04.2003
XYZ mastermind Terry Ilous is now back with the long awaited follow up album. XYZ is a band that has taken it from the streets of Hollywood to the biggest stages in the world. Before they broke up they only released two albums but the band earned huge success by touring the world with TED NUGENT, ALICE COOPER, STEPPENWOLF, ENUFF'Z NUFF among others and received two gold albums!
Beside original singer Terry Ilous the MTM artist JK NORTHRUP is playing guitars, Sean MacNabb plays bass and original drummer Paul Monroe. Vinnie Appice appears as a guest drummer on a few songs. Along with JK Northrup the album was mixed by Tom Fletcher who worked for SCORPIONS, TOTO, YES among others. The album features 2 bonus tracks: the remakes of previous XYZ hits “Inside Out” and 'What Keeps Me Loving You.' Original guitar player Mark Diglio did co-write several of the songs.
'Letter To God' is dedicated to Terry Ilous’ son as the song 'Letter To God' was the last one they wrote for the CD especially after that tragedy of Terry’s son dying late last year."
The site also says that it originally was called One Is Enough To Tango.
More stealing from the MTM site:"news 18.02.2003 The new XYZ “Letter To God” is done and sounds phenominal! Terry Ilous and J.K. Northrup would express their feelings about the album:
Terry Ilous:
“I have never worked so hard in my life on any music ... I pushed and pushed my self to the limits and just when I thought the performance was great someone in the band would come and say: it’s good but ... so there I was again! I wanted to make sure people would feel what I was feeling ... this CD is heartfelt ... it’s raw full of emotions ... anger happiness and yet sadness, I enjoyed recording it. It was some king of challenge ... me against me ... can I do better? I felt like a boxer that lost his title and against all odds would want to get it back one more time .... pride was there ...
I kept thinking that I could do better always better... in the end I am happy with the result, it’s not perfect but it’s not meant to be ... it’s blood and tears ... it’s life and death ... you know ... it’s real.”
J.K. Northrup:
“There was so much excitement recording this CD because we knew we had something special. While recording, there was a lot of "This is going to be awesome", coming from everyone involved. Paul Monroe, Sean McNabb and Vinnie Appice all had such a great vibe in the studio. When it came to Guitars and Vocals, Terry and I pushed each other constantly. Just when I thought, "Hey this solo is great", Terry would say, "It's good, but .........." and I would do the same with him. The end result is something we will always be proud of! My favorite songs are "Letter To God", "Touch The Sky", "All I'm Asking" and "Deny". Of course "Letter To God" has a special meaning to all of us as Terry will explain, but as a song it just kicks ass! There were a few tragedies during the recording which hopefully some day will all make sence, which is why the title track "Letter To God" was written. I was glad when we were asked to re-record a couple of XYZ past hits. As a producer, I thought it would be cool if we did a version of "Inside out" a little more organic, a little more Zepplinish. There wasn't much to improve on "What Keeps Me Loving You", so all we did was add more Piano and Keyboards. As far as solos, I am proud of them all! My faves are in "Touch The Sky", "Tango", "Letter To God" and "What Keeps Me Loving You". I recorded all of my solos by pressing RECORD and play! Of course I did several versions until I (and Terry) were happy. Most of the solos are adlibed which I prefer, because it comes from feel as apposed to technic. I hope everyone enjoys listening to this CD as much as we enjoyed recording it!
"Letter To God" is dedicated to Terry Ilous' son as the song "Letter To God" was the last one they wrote for the CD especially after that tragedy of Terry's son dying late last year.
(Release: 22.04.2003)"
Did I mention already that I have confirmed that Buccaneer Records will have the CDs? I've ordered from them before and they have always gotten my stuff to me quickly and without problems. They're a Goldmine advertiser and come highly recommended.
I think it goes without saying that the owner of this site also sends condolences to Terry's family. I can't wait to hear the album.
Tony Marcus, who now goes by his full name, Tony Hermosilla, (Marcus is his middle name) is in a band called Mudbox and is living in NJ. "We just releaed another CD titled Becoming which is a follow-up to our first CD, Dead Comfortable Feeling."
FAQ: The most frequently asked questions include where to find guitar tabs, MP3s and lyrics for XYZ songs. If anyone knows these resources, please e-mail me so I can post them on a FAQ page. Thank you!
From another ad in Goldmine, I see XYZ's Metal Sampler promo for sale set price in case people don't want to fight for it on eBay: 25 bucks from Around The World Music Collectibles PO Box 33101, Granada Hills, CA 91394; 818-366-1025; e-mail: info@atwmusic.com Shipping info: $4 for first three CDs, 50 cents each additional, priority mail.
As always, tell them where you saw the info, and that we got it from Goldmine.
"Fake" XYZ
I've heard in the inbox quite a bit recently about an XYZ that is not the American metal band. Rather than immediately screaming copyright infringement, my assumption that our guys own the U.S. copyright on the band name but not the Japanese copyright on the name. This "other" XYZ is a Japanese band that includes former Loudness vocalist Minoru Nihara.
The reason this band has come to our attention in recent days is because its album has been reissued on CD (12/99 Japanese, 2000 English, according to one site) and comes up under our band's discography on sites such as Towerrecords.com, Amazon.com, CDnow.com, and GEMM.com, which are some of the most popular places for ordering CDs online. (I have no information as to when it was originally released.) It's understandable why, being that the sites all list items in a database under the band name, but it's caused people confusion, thinking that they're getting something unknown by the U.S. band. And at $40 to import the CD, it's something every fan of this band should be forwarned. The only site that has any kind of information that the Japanese band has nothing to do with the U.S. band is in an Amazon.com review by a fan from Malaysia. And when many sites list "Click here for other titles by this artist," it's easy to see why people are confused.
In the coming weeks I plan to try and contact all these sites to make them aware of this problem and to put some kind of notice on the listing that it is not the same band. Searching through many foreign web sites that I couldn't read brought me finally to a photograph of this band, and they definitely have nothing to do w/ our favorite bluesy '80s metalers. (You'll see what I mean.) Thank you to all the fans who alerted me to this problem.
From the sounds of it, Terry's (er, Flynn's) show in Las Vegas, Nev., was a success. We have a tour story from a fan. I have posted it on my Flynn/Cage page. Flynn has more tour dates coming up. See the link at the top of the page to go directly to his tour dates. (Most are in the L.A. area.)
Misleading info
An alert fan saw on the Perris Records site that there's a band called Black Sheep that notes an "XYZ guitarist" in the band. Well, not exactly. Jeff Northrup, who worked with Terry on the Cage and Flynn projects is the one in this band. Thank you for your eyes on the web out there, everyone. A little info can go a long way.
