Abby was curled up on the end of the couch in her apartment. She had a worn copy of the Comet in her hands. A fuzzy picture covered the cover, a picture that made her smile whenever she saw it. The title just made her laugh: "The Bar Girl and the ‘N SYNCER! They can’t deny the rumors anymore! Photo’s inside!"
It was the photo’s she liked. The one’s with her hands intertwined with JC’s. The one’s where they were leaning closely together. The article was as wrong as always, but it didn’t send chills down her spine to think of it. It was funny.
The newspaper had been getting a lot of wear in the past week. JC was going home today and Abby was hoping she could drive down to visit him for a few days. They had a lot of talking to do after all. They’d taken to ending their phone calls with an ‘I love you.’
She ran her finger over the soft paper face of JC. The newspaper ink was already smudged. She couldn’t wait to see him again.
There was a knock on her door. Abby hopped off the couch and went to the door. She looked through the peephole and felt her jaw drop.
She saw deep brown hair. And blue eyes.
The door flew open.
"Josh?" she asked. "What are you doing here?"
"We said we had to talk about us," JC said. "See if, well, you know."
Abby let him into the apartment and shut the door. She just stood and stared at him, as if she were unable to believe he was actually there.
"Come on," JC said. "Give me a hug."
Abby threw her arms around JC’s neck and squeezed him tightly. He pulled back and looked into her eyes, almost asking permission.
Their lips met and met again.
"I think that’s enough talking," Abby said quietly in between kisses.
"Yeah," JC said. "I agree."
Sometimes the very thing you're looking
for
is the one thing you can't see...
